Tarot and....SOCKS!

This looks like the place to put general tarot topics including about what we keep our decks in.  If not, PLEASE mods feel free to move it!

 

Years ago, I used tarot bags, so many gorgeous ones.  I did notice that often if I tossed  the tarot bag in my bag, purse, they would slide around and not stay exactly stable.  SO I put them in stretchy socks first!  Depending on the size of the deck, that's the size socks I would use.  Any type that was stretchy and looked cool!   You can even use old nylon stockings if anyone still has them (for a "dark" deck, black nylon stockings are a kind of fun inner bag!).

 

You just put them in the appropriate size sock and wrap a ribbon, a pony tail elastic, whatever, to keep it close and then toss in your tarot bag to do readings.  Keeps them from sloshing around and gives them a little protection.

 

I long ago switched to cases because they serve my purposes better and are easier to stack up in a box.  I have some really cool custom ones.  Anyone remember Dark Nature Cases from back in the day?  Have a bunch of those.  BUT I DIGRESS.  The sock thing worked brilliantly and, depending on socks used, looked cool removing them from bag before a reading!

Bahahaha socks! 😂 What a novel idea! I have been known to use pencil cases as tarot bags. I like that I know they'll stay closed in my handbag. Drawstring bags like to undo themselves, especially if they use satin ribbons. The only problem with pencil cases is they're usually too big so the cards can slop around inside. Socks are a great remedy for that though! I'll have to give it a go lol.

 

I ended up fashioning my own pouches from a couple of different patterns. I only made a few before my sewing machine broke 🙄 and I still can't remember exactly how I did the first one! The first one has two separate slots in it - one for the cards and one for the slightly larger book - a flap then goes over the top and then tucks into a band the runs across the front. I make them to measure so they end up being nice and snug. I also didn't want to use any buttons because they take up too much space for storage and I don't have to worry about buttons coming off in my handbag 😁

You should go into business doing those, TheFeeLion!  I am so not handy like that.  I LOVED when I could get custom cases from Dark Nature Cases and there were a couple others on AT who would do custom cases if they had the time.  Here's one custom case I had done.  It wasn't Dark Nature Cases, but another ATer who did it.

Socks sound smashingly brilliant!  Especially when (as happens all the time!)  I end up with just ONE of a pair I adored.

It can be so fun, TheLoracular!  Children's tube socks can work well, cutting up a pair of tights, stretchy works best and you can tie off with anything like pretty ribbon, cool elastic bands.  I just never found a bag where a deck didn't move around more than I wanted it to without doing the sock thing.   And it makes QUITE the presentation when you take it out of the tarot bag if you're doing readings at a party 🙂

Lol I very briefly thought about doing that but every time I make one I have trouble remembering how I did the last one 😂 I stupidly try a recreate the wheel each time and I've only made three 🙄😂 I have more I want to make but I need to fix my machine first. I don't particularly relish the thought of that much hand sewing. Here's a pic of them btw

SO PRETTY, TFL!  OH AND THAT LAST FABRIC...yes, done by the Fae!    I am JUST not handy when it comes to needle and thread.  I can hand stitch fairly well, sew a button on, fix a tear, but I am not a seamstress.  Don't have the knack.  And when someone can do it better and faster..... I know what I like and just want someone else to make it!  It's like I like brownies.  And know a local baker who, for my 70th bd, make something better than I could have.  I said it's my 70th, I want something SPECIAL and she knows stuff I like.  These brownies had special chocolate, rum, pecans, caramel and coconut.  It was like death by brownie.  But I digress.  My point.  When someone can do something better and the way I want it and it magically appears at my door, all the better! 🙂
