Jewel Posted January 23, 2018 Posted January 23, 2018 I don't really have a preference, but then again I have to say the vast majority of my decks were purchased new. I do miss the old trading and selling forum on AT, at some point I will have to subscribe here so I can join that. If letting go of a deck I always felt better knowing it was going to someone who I knew enjoyed Tarot as much as I and would enjoy the deck. Likewise with trading on AT I knew the history of the decks, and usually had on online friendship with the previous owner. So longs as the decks are in good condition and complete that is all that really matters to me. I have bought a couple of decks off E-bay, never had any trouble with them either. Like several people here the first thing I do with a used deck is reorder them to clear energy.
FLizarraga Posted January 28, 2018 Posted January 28, 2018 Interesting topic. With me, it depends. I have two copies of the Aquarian (more to add to the backup copies thread *sigh*), one new with the plasticky cardstock and an old and well-loved one that feels like silk --both because of the unlaminated cardstock and the use. But I have been lucky enough to score some of the ones that EK aptly calls "new old stock decks" --like my first edition Bohemian Gothic, my (Baba) Fairytale, and my Morgan Greer: vintage, yet sealed and pristine.
Guest Empathic_Cap Posted January 30, 2018 Posted January 30, 2018 I'd use both if the price is cheap and I can afford 8) but overall my only concern about used decks are that they sometimes can hold onto energies and emotions of the past owner regardless if it's positive or negative. With that in mind I'd make sure to cleanse them throughly to ensure its completely pure and it doesn't taint and affect both me and my readings. I guess this is just a general concern when you purchase pre-used items without having the knowledge of who used it and how it was used... It's just a risk you take but this could also just be me being paranoid about my safety and karmic responsibilities.
Alta Posted February 12, 2018 Posted February 12, 2018 Most of my decks were purchased new and all the used decks were from members of the former AT forums. One in particular: Kiama found a very old Thoth deck for me, not sure from where, it was not hers. That deck must have been well loved, the cards were soft and the Devil clearly had been folded. For some reason I have always felt strongly that the deck had been loved and respected by its previous owner. It always radiates peacefulness when I handle it and it is my favourite Thoth and I have several. I have a few others but none that I recall that I myself bought from a second hand seller, all from ATF buddies.
Canid Posted February 13, 2018 Posted February 13, 2018 I don’t have a preferance but I appreciate a worn, used deck. Someone loved it.
