EmpyreanKnight Posted November 18, 2017 Posted November 18, 2017 I'm just curious. Do you have any decks that are only locally available? Like it can only be purchased in your country for various reasons. Maybe because it's written in the vernacular, or it's a limited edition item that the publisher is not interested in exporting, or because its theme/s is/are very specific to your country. Pics are very much welcome.
EmpyreanKnight Posted November 18, 2017 Author Posted November 18, 2017 In my case, it's the only majors-only deck I ever bought. I was surprised, because I never thought that anyone else aside from Lynyrd-Jym Narciso has ever published a Tarot deck with Philippine themes. It seems that earlier this year, the National Museum hosted an exhibit that later culminated in the release of a special set of Tarot cards. This is the Cartas Philippinensis, and it explored the life in the Philippines under colonial Spain through the major arcana. For three hundred years we lived as a Spanish colony. Ours is quite strange tho, since aside from their secular government, the religious orders possessed wealth and power in almost equal measure. Their soft power cannot be underestimated tho. As an example - when the highest Spanish official in the land, the progressive Governor General Bustamante dared to imprison the Archbishop of Manila, the latter's supporters stormed the main palace and killed the former. Upon being released from jail, the Archbishop Dela Cuesta was appointed as the acting head, sitting in the assassinated governor's chair to rule the country. So yup, the deck has very religious themes, as can be seen in the imagery. I bought the peninsular edition which came in a huge, sturdy box with the cards stored in a separate tuckbox and a hardcover book that discusses each major. I shall post pics tomorrow. :)
Tanga Posted November 18, 2017 Posted November 18, 2017 Nope. :) But here's one specific to where I live: London Lore Tarot: https://www.treadwells-london.com/shop/london-lore-tarot-tapestry-city-johnny-cue/
maenifold Posted November 18, 2017 Posted November 18, 2017 Nope. :) But here's one specific to where I live: London Lore Tarot: https://www.treadwells-london.com/shop/london-lore-tarot-tapestry-city-johnny-cue/ That looks really interesting - I've got a trip to Treadwells pencilled in soon, I'll look out for it.
gregory Posted November 18, 2017 Posted November 18, 2017 The Elora Tarot (Canada) was created very locally and I haven't seen it outside Canada. http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/elora/ I have, and love, the London Lore deck.
Trogon Posted November 18, 2017 Posted November 18, 2017 Nope. :) But here's one specific to where I live: London Lore Tarot: https://www.treadwells-london.com/shop/london-lore-tarot-tapestry-city-johnny-cue/ That is a cool deck! I wonder how much shipping would be? Anyway, the only deck I have that seems to have been limited to my area is the Sedona Vortex Tarot. It was published in Sedona, AZ and is currently out of print (I think). I did find a couple of unopened copies at our local used-book store. They still have the one I left which had been opened and showed some use. (The 2nd copy I had was a give-away when TT&M first started up.) Anyway, I don't recall having seen it available outside of the Sedona and Flagstaff area.
EmpyreanKnight Posted November 23, 2017 Author Posted November 23, 2017 The London Lore looks mighty interesting! Reminds me of another "local" deck that has name recall: the Delta Enduring Tarot that explores the legends and stories of the Mississippi delta.

I don't think I've ever encountered it in card format, though. :-/ A bit tangentially-related: I have been seeing people in FB groups using Dixit for readings. Talecraft, a Filipino-produced storytelling game (though I think it's more like a storytelling creativity aid) published in the early 2000s can be used in a similar manner. I guess. :D -Ly
EmpyreanKnight Posted June 16, 2018 Author Posted June 16, 2018 Thanks for tipping me about Fajardo's Tarot Card series, Ly. Too bad it wasn't published as a deck of cards like the Philippinensis, but now I'm curious about it. Gonna look it up. :) I remember seeing the Talecraft deck in some National Bookstore branches, but I dunno if they still have it. I'm going to look out for it.
