International Women's day today - creative women in tarot

So many of them, even if in the past they've not always had the credit they've deserved!

But outside of the obvious big names that spring to mind first and a lot of tarot-y people are likely to have heard of who would you like to mention today?

I'd obviously have to mention Chesca Potter, a great artist, environmentalist, and from her writings a feminist, though I don't know if she'd use that label about herself.

And getting away from the obvious and to some more recently active creators -

Mariza Ryce Aparicio-Tovar, creator of the Gentle Tarot

Danielle Barlow, creator of the Greenwheel Oracle and co-creator of the Witches Wisdom Tarot

Both have created inclusive decks that are very women friendly.

Thinking about it, most of my favourite decks have women artists - Shadowscapes, Llewellyn as well as those mentioned above.... Spoilt for choice!)

Great topic! ❤️

I would like to highlight Stella Kaoruko and Takako Hoei - creator and artist of Stella’s tarot. It has meant so much to me as far as intuitive readings go.

And also Stasia Burrington, creator of the Sasuraibito tarot. She’s such a talented artist and a sweet soul.

Among the very obvious and big names, I feel I have much to thank Pamela Colman Smith for.

there are many many others, of course, but I’ll stop here 🙂

I want to mention Ellen Lorenzi-Prince, particularly for Tarot of the Crone, but also her other decks!

I’d like to give a shout out to M.M. Meleen for the Tabula Mundi, Rosetta and Pharos tarots. She really makes the concepts and philosophies behind the Golden Dawn decks accessible and understandable.

I don't have that deck, but it looks so lovely.

Ooh, good choice, I was looking through my copy last week. That and her Dark Goddess Tarot are full of very powerful images.

Yes, she’s a real favorite of mine as well - particularly the crone deck!

Have to mention one of my favorite illustrators, Yoshi Yo****ani, she bases her art in a multicultural influence. Her tarot illustrations are based on deitys, mythology and fairy-tales around the world! She's also part of the LGBTQIA(+) community and a lot of her works contain a lot of diversity.

Ps.: Her name is y-o-s-h-i-t-a-n-i but the censorship 🙄 puts it like a "bad word"

Oh no! Of topic, I know, but I was on a scifi forum a long time ago where the name of a rather famous author had the same problem - wondering if here will have the same issue? - Philip K Dick.

Looks like that's accepted!

Can Yo****ani be added as an allowed word?

Ummm - I'm a bit surprised that nobody has mentioned Lady Harris.

I think its because the first post talked about less obvious names. But I agree, lady harris was such a talented artist and has often been overshadowed by crowley in tarot discussions.

Well, yes. She's a big name in the sense of being a major, MAJOR contributor, but at the same time, she's a persona non grata: "Crowley Thoth".

Someone here (was it gregory?) once said to imagine that deck if Crowley had painted it himself.

I suspect it might have ended up looking like r-rated toilet graffiti with a severely dark occult twist to it 😄

I was thinking of her and PCS in my first paragraph. Both overshadowed by the men involved (and with PCS by the publisher as well 🙄)

You're familiar with the ones I didn't post, then. 🤣
