But that's NOT from Lo Scarabeo, so what am I supposed to say ? They hold the copyright but have licensed it out to falandonormandes. (Likely like those Fabbri ones a few years ago.)

Permitted - but not done by them.... I will mention it, but....

I wouldn't be surprised if people objected to their taking off the  Bernhard Dondorf logo ? PURITY of a facsimile reproduction, you know.

You have the eye Gregory!

It looks a « handcrafted production », so I doubted it was from Lo Scarabeo (and 80!) but if it is not but permitted…

Colors look wrong though and maybe the card stock isn’t coated enough or uncoated.

Not the best permitted production anyway!

I did ask if they had seen what's been done to it- but it's Saturday, so you'll almost certainly have to wait... (Also asked about linen stock and offered to send a sample - I THINK I have a spare card...)

Ah, thank you! That whooshed right past me when I was looking at the site.
Portuguese is not my strong suit. At all.

Thanks.
It's still strange that they granted such a tiny license. just 80. It couldn't have made them very much money, and the print quality of this thing looks so abysmal. You'd think they'd be concerned about their brand. Others may make the same mistake I did and assume this is a LS deck when they see their name.

That was the French Cartomancy Lenormand, not this Sibilla. French Cartomancy has been around since what, 2009 or so? I never saw anyone complain about it.
I prefer the Dondorf logo or the dragon. It's redundant having the number on the card twice, especially considering that the numbering isn't used for much. (Just reading Houses and playing the Game of Hope, AFAIK.) But there was no outcry over it.

But I do think a Sibilla should have lottery numbers on it. It's part of the charm.

Thank U Reaction GIF by Amanda

This sad old world is in dire need of much more linen stock, AFAIC. 😁

It looks like a pretty odd site - almost as if the decks are home made...

Yes. It screams "Here thar be Pyrates!"

But if one were to bootleg a facsimile that had already been published by LS, why put their name on it? That would only serve to get their attention. Better to just claim that it was printed from scans of the original Faustino Soliseo, which is surely out of copyright, and leave it at that.

It makes no sense. But maybe they're a couple of french fries short of a Happy Meal.

WELL.

From LoS, regarding that awful deck:

I don’t think this is our, nor licensed by us.

I suggested they follow it up...

It's why I prefer old Lenormands. The more you "innovate", the more you ruin it.

@katrinka! I so admire your expertise on these matters! 😍

My Lenormand shopping spree / collection and plans for it to end 😇

LN collection today:

  1. Art Nouveau
  2. Gilded reverie
  3. Blaue Euvle
  4. random old style deck
  5. Daniloff
  6. Elada
  7. Mondnacht
  8. Cheapie Brepols style from e-bay
  9. Dondorf rev
  10. Horeus
  11. Genesis mini
  12. Purple dragon mini
  13. Horeus mini

This feels good. My only planned purchase is Anino Lenormand regular size by Lynyrd Narciso. Maybe also Rana George deck. Maybe the original Game of Hope deck for historic record. Maybe some coffee cards, again for historic record.

I feel a strong attraction for antique Tarocchis but not Lenormands. Most of the original 1800s artwork doesn't appeal to me the way the old Tarocchi cards do.

I've donated 2 decks i didn't like: Pixie and Under the Roses.

Pixie felt like a Frankenstein deck. It hurt me to see pieces of her Tarots and other artwork chopped-up and photoshopped into a LN. Under the Roses i didn't care for Snake as a woman. Let Snake be a Snake. I'm picky about keeping to the symbols original and simple. I don't want to see a bird [or postman or whatever] delivering the Letter. GR shows a woman reading the letter. Just the letter please.

I put up with GR showing someone reading the letter since that deck is too large for GT, anyway. I only use it for small spreads.

Another dealbreaker: 1 bird and 2 storks. Danilloff has an Orient LN I would have bought except for that.

A female Rider isn't my favorite, but not a dealbreaker. GR and Horeus both have this.
