DownUnderNZer Posted April 6, 2021 Posted April 6, 2021 To assist those that might be caught between choosing books and what have you. There is not alot of reviews out there about these Encyclopaedias, but found this one just now when googling to see if any. " March 27, 2021 Using Lenormand to investigate Personality, Timing and Health There are three volumes in Björn Meuris’ “Petit Lenormand Encyclopedia” series. Information is a little sparse (I had to order the third volume without a clue as to what was in it) so I’ll write a review of each of the three volumes so you can more easily understand what’s what. But first an overview of the whole series:Volume 1: A overview of Lenormand and how to do basic readings; Card meanings, the 9-card spread; The meanings of the suits; How to use the court cards.Volume 2: The Grand Tableau; Card clusters; the Method of Distance.Volume 3: The “Third layer” of a card’s meaning; Investigating personality, timing, and health. These three volumes are an in-depth look at how to use the most classic method of interpreting Lenormand cards, the so-called “Method of Distance.” “So-called” simply because although more recent methods include things like combining cards into pairs to form composite meanings, none of that existed in the original instructions from the 18th and 19th centuries. This “Method of Distance” was the only game in town when following the original instructions, and that’s what’s taught here. I’d encountered bits and pieces of this method as I’ve investigated Lenormand, but having it all together here to form one picture is very useful indeed! This classic usage of the cards also necessitates that these books use the original German meanings throughout the three volumes. The Anchor for work, Lily for sexuality, the Tree harbingering ill health—not good health—the closer it gets to the Significator card, etc. Users of the French (Fox for work, Whip for sex etc) or Brazilian (Mountain for justice, Cross for divine protection) systems might find these odd, but them’s the 18th-century rules! It’s still very useful, whatever system you eventually apply it to.The three volumes build on the previous volumes, so I’d recommend reading them in order. The main drawback of all three books in this series is the lack of an easily understandable structure. In vol. 1 and vol. 2 especially, every section is sequentially numbered as if sub-sections were on the same level as the major subject divisions, making things more difficult to grasp than they needed to be. vol. 3 lacks the numbering, but is essentially the same. The books could have benefited from a professional editor.I’ve gone through my own copies with a highlighter and hierarchically marked up the larger sections and sub-sections in a way that I think makes it all easier to absorb, and I’ll include my chapter divisions here in hope that it helps. Because the information itself is top class.About this volume:Volume 3 introduces how cards can be interpreted in a broader way using the “Third layer” of meaning: For example if the first layer (core meaning) of the Dog card is loyalty or friendship, the second layer might extend that to indicate an actual dog, while the third layer might represent someone with “dog-like” qualities such as expressive eyes. Basically it’s a way to get a broader spectrum of meanings out of the 36 cards. Volume 3 uses these “third-layer” meanings to investigate three common areas: personality, timing, and health.Preface/Describing Peoplep.12 Chapter 1: The Third Layer of a Cardp.55 Chapter 2: Interpreting Someone’s Personality p.60 Spread #1 Personality Spread 1 p.63 Spread #2 Personality Spread 2 p.70 Spread #3 Complete Description of a Person p.73 Spread #4 Comparing Two People p.76 Spread #5 The Large Love Spreadp.85 Chapter 3: Determining Timing with Lenormandp.104 Chapter 4: Determining Health with Lenormand. All remaining sections are sub-sections of these chapter headings.I’ve also included a photo on how I’ve color-coded one of the diagrams describing the method of Timing, for clarity." A professional editor could have done wonders it seems. However, the information itself is "top class." DND 🌞
