Brazilian Portuguese. The PL are popular there. But there are differences in how they are read when compared to European sources.

Yes. They've altered some of the cards and meanings in order to incorporate the deck into Quimbanda.
It's no longer just a regional method, it's part of a religious practice and should be respected as such and left alone by non-initiates of that religion.

Those aren't all Lenormands. I'd venture to say that most of them aren't - there's a cat deck, a saints deck...
I have no idea what all of them follow, if anything. Really, it looks like a Brazilian new age shop of some kind. New age stuff is always a mess.

But I was talking about the Brazilian method, not the deck.
If you get a Brazilian Lenormand deck, it might be the same as what we get here, though I hear the stock is often papery and insubstantial since a lot of them are printed to be left as offerings, not used. Or some cards might be different - you might get fallen logs blocking a road rather than the Clover card, for instance. For reading purposes, that's an unnecessary change - obstacles are already represented by the Mountain - but the cards have been altered to correspond to Orishas and Exu spirits.

But according to the method, the religious significance is in place, even if the card looks "standard".

A deck is just pasteboard. I'm sure you could purchase a new sealed Brazilian deck and use it like a "regular" Lenormand, on the condition that it had the standard images. You'd probably wear it out pretty quickly, though.

A Lenormand deck can't "follow Quimbanda". If it did, it wouldn't be a Lenormand, surely. Just as a Lenormand deck can't follow Roman Catholicism, Islam or Pastafarianism.

Indeed. But he plays no part in Lenormand.

Oh, i thought because can't make out decks and their names they were all lenormand.

The site is called lucky lenormand and the deck picture was all under a lenormand site.

I am under the impression over the oceans there are plenty of lenormand decks not seen in north america that are brand newish.. ak came out in last 15 to 20 years.

( i assume true about and kipper too ?)

In Brazil the Petit Lenormand deck is very popular.

It is particularly popular with practitioners of Quimbanda, who have their own associations. These often arise from the Spiritual Paths.  As such, the card significations do not always follow the European school of thought.  But I do know several Brazilian readers who do follow the more common European style.

You can get some Brazilian decks where the emblems are tweaked to fit the Quimbanda.

In Portugal, the Lenormand is also known and used.

I don't know the history. Is it something you can shed light on in a public thread?
It does look like there was some behind-the-scenes drama at some point. 😁

Oh sure - it's public knowledge. From wiki:

The "Flying Spaghetti Monster" was first described in a satirical open letter written by Bobby Henderson in 2005 to protest the Kansas State Board of Education decision to permit teaching intelligent design as an alternative to evolution in public school science classes. In the letter, Henderson demanded equal time in science classrooms for "Flying Spaghetti Monsterism", alongside intelligent design and evolution. After Henderson published the letter on his website, the Flying Spaghetti Monster rapidly became an Internet phenomenon and a symbol of opposition to the teaching of intelligent design in public schools.

It's become quite a serious thing now, and is a recognised religion in New Zealand among other countries - where there has been at least one legally accepted pastafarian wedding.

Thanks, @gregory, but I'm well-versed in His Noodley Genesis.
I thought you meant the Terrible Tarot site. :embarrassed:

I have several Russian and Eastern European decks that are of similar card standard. I use a transparent acrylic from a craft store. It does help. You spray it on.
