Evan Posted July 11, 2021 Posted July 11, 2021 (edited) I bought this beautiful Tarot cards from Matt Hughes - Ethereal Visions Illuminated Tarot deck last week, and I just noticed that it has 80 cards, instead of the conventional 78 cards. I am reluctant to use it... Anyone is using it? How do you find the extra cards in helping your reading? Edited July 11, 2021 by Evan
gregory Posted July 11, 2021 Posted July 11, 2021 The way I read - they're fine. But if you don't' feel comfortable with them - just leave them out.
Guest Posted July 18, 2021 Posted July 18, 2021 The card meanings for The Well and The Artist are written down in the LWB, but it ought to be fine to put your own spin on them, or just take them out and use the usual 78. Ethereal Visions is too beautiful to just leave collecting dust.
Croat Posted Tuesday at 05:20 AM Posted Tuesday at 05:20 AM Picked up this deck yesterday in, of all things, an antique store (quite well discounted). Unused, still in original plastic wrap. Musée des Arts Décoratifs is one of my Parisian favorites so I was naturally attracted to the overall appearance of this deck. As I'm going through initial familiarization with the cards, however, I find them to be a bit... cold I guess is the word. The artwork is fine, good even, but they're done with a kind of paleness as opposed to warmness, which contrasts with real-world art nouveau (which appears quite warm and enticing to the eye, at least in a museum setting). The gold fringing doesn't seem to help much. Maybe they'll pull me in more as I go along, but immersion is not initially happening.

These "extra" cards are getting more popular within the tarot creator community, for example the solar kingdom deck have cards for the solar phases and the moon phases, in addition to the normal ones. To be honest i love reading them, incorporating them as if they had always formed part of the tarot system. Check the guidebook to learn the connotations of the cards (If I remember correctly, it was The artist and The well 🤎). You can obtain more profound readings, at least that's what happened to me!. Another options is to take them out, if you just prefer the tradicional structure of the tarot, without the extras. But when someone asks i always recommend them the first option, is always fun to experiment a little bit!

For me this deck ir a good "tea table deck". It tends to appeal to people who have respect or fear of tarot, because the images are quite pleasant, but is not a really intimate and warm deck. When i feel a little bit disconected from a deck i do an interview spread (about it's personality and how can i use it), or a moodboard/collage of it's general aesthetic. This last option helps a lot to find the beauty of it. I like to do this moodboard in Pinterest, an app in which you can find images and put them together in a group!

I never thought of it that way--but it does have a sort of otherworldly quality that makes it a bit removed from the daily grind. I like to use this deck for topics that have a creative or dreamy vibe. I actually do like the extra cards but only use them for certain topics. For example if the topic is about some creative aspiration or project--then I would keep the extra cards. For other topics I likely remove them. Edited 20 hours ago by Misterei

That sounds really fun, i love when some decks are great for really specific topics hahaha. Also changing between removing them or using them definetly gives that extra flexibility!
