evasagittarius Posted July 11, 2021 Posted July 11, 2021 Hey! (I hope this is not in the wrong forum section now) I want to do readings more often, regularly, so that I'd stay interacting with the deck and also get more practical experience with all the cards... so I'd be interested to know how others do casual, everyday or weekly readings for themselves. I like the ritual of setting the table with cloth and candles and incense, winding down, meditating and this feels appropriate when i have a burning question or a bigger matter that I wanna shed light on. But sometimes I wanna read and touch the cards but I don't have a specific question or topic in mind. It's like I feel drawn to the cards but I don't have this clear objective and don't know what I'm asking. So the other day I just acted on this impulse, took the deck and just washed the cards around the table, very quickly picked one and took notes on whatever thoughts it raised in me. Do you do quick, low effort or otherwise, daily readings? Do you need to know what you are asking or just go with feeling?
Guest Posted July 11, 2021 Posted July 11, 2021 I just wing it really. I do a reading when I feel like it of when I need it. I don't always have a question and lay out three cards and see what comes up. I am not a ritual person, I just shuffle the cards and lay them out. Sometimes I don't read tarot for days. They call out to me when it is needed. I also don't want to make the habbit of using the tarot for every situation or thing in my life. There is life beyond the tarot for me.
DanielJUK Posted July 15, 2021 Posted July 15, 2021 I do daily readings (really an app chooses a card for me on my phone daily usually these days) but I sometimes pull a daily/ weekly / monthly card. I just pick a card and don't put in the ritual I would for a reading. I just want to know for the day or week as a general message. For a daily pull and I have learnt so much doing a card a day and seeing how it fits 🙂 . You have to decide how you want to do it. You can do a predictive reading, this is at the start of the day or beginning (or even before that) of the week or month. This is a "what will happen" type reading. The pros of this type of reading is knowing what is going to happen but the cons are that you could come to rely too much on the tarot. This has happened to me in the past, wanting to know every single thing that will happen. So keep it in moderation. The other way is to use it to review what has happened, an analysis type reading. You do the reading at the end of the day / week / month and look what happened and use it to learn from it. So my daily readings are low effort (literally an app picks a card for me these days) and I just think about the card's message all day. You just have to decide if you want to use them in a predictive or reviewing type way 🙂 just to add: some people use a daily card in their meditation practice. They take a card at the start or the end as part of it and just look at the artwork taking it in and see if any messages come to them. Another way of using them
Hedera Posted July 17, 2021 Posted July 17, 2021 Another way to interact daily with your cards, is to do a 'diary' reading at the end of the day; face-up, pick 3-5 cards that depict (in your mind) different parts of the day. It's a wonderful way to get to know your cards, and connect to them in a very personal way!
evasagittarius Posted July 17, 2021 Author Posted July 17, 2021 Thank you all for replies! I will try both, the card at the beginning of the day and at the end of the day, to see what comes up.

euripides Posted July 17, 2021 Posted July 17, 2021 You can also put aside the predictive power of cards and use them deliberately, that is, select a specific card and use its energies in your day, depending on whether I need strength, wisdom, hard work, focus, emotional equilibrium, etc.

One thing you can do is readings on books or movies. Just close the book or pause the movie and do a reading about how it will play out. Or a lot of little specific questions: "Will X survive?" "Will X marry Y?" etc. The best part of this is you can check your accuracy in a short window of time! Edited July 17, 2021 by katrinka
