Nivian Posted November 30, 2017 Posted November 30, 2017 I did a one card reading on what spiritual path should I be on and got The Star. Can anyone tell me what this means?
Nivian Posted December 1, 2017 Author Posted December 1, 2017 I realize that was kind of vague. So my spiritual path choices are Neo Pagan, Wicca, Christian and Taoist. I got The Sun for Neo Pagan, The Three of Wands for Wicca, the King of Pentacles for Christianity and the Knight of Swords for Taoist. Then I drew between all those cards and chose Neo-Pagan. Which again, is rather vague, so I asked what type of Neo Pagan and up comes the Temperance card. Well I'm in AA for addiction problems. So should I just stick with AA? What does AA-Temperance have to do with Neo Pagan. Im stumped. Perhaps I should have included AA in my original path choices and Temperance would have come up. I could explore Neo-Paganism as an add-on to AA. And as to the Star, still unsure.
RavenOfSummer Posted December 1, 2017 Posted December 1, 2017 Hi Nivian! I would say the Star is telling you to follow what you feel is the true and constant guidance in your life. Follow the path that leads you home- in other words, that is truly authentic to you, that the universe calls you to. I think in this case the idea of CHOOSING among these different paths may not be the way of thinking about this that best serves that truth. If you are drawn to Wicca, other forms of Neo-Paganiam, Christianity, and Taoism, there is no reason you can't combine these paths or elements of these paths to find a path that is authentic to you, that speaks to your inner truth. So my take on the Star here would be, don't worry about all the labels, follow what is true for you. Maybe take some time to learn more about each of these paths and figure out what it is about them that resonates with you. With Temperance coming up in this context, I'm thinking maybe that's saying that whatever else you follow, you should stick with AA. Perhaps that can be your anchor right now as you explore different aspects of your path. Just my thoughts. I hope that is helpful!
Page of Ghosts Posted December 1, 2017 Posted December 1, 2017 I'm not very familiar with AA, but is it really a religious thing? I always, from my limited understanding, thought it was a way to treat addiction and had very little to do with a specific religion, faith or spirituality, other than I've read that at some point there is something about believing in a higher power. I don't think it says which higher power. Either way I don't see why you can't stick to the program if it's helpful for you and still explore other things that interest you. I agree with RavenOfSummer that the Temperance card could be about staying in AA. In this case I imagine The Star as your guiding light. I don't know which deck you used but what immediately comes to mind is the North Star in the Wildwood Tarot. You might not know precisely where you're going but trust The Star to lead your way out of the darkness. What interests you the most and grabs your attention like that big light in the dark sky? It doesn't have to be a specific path yet (it's ok not to know these things 100% off the bat), but maybe there is a practice that interests you, like divination, kitchen magic, meditation, rituals, prayer etc. Starting small and building it up is always an option. In the RWS it's also interesting that both the figure in The Star and Temperance have their containers of water. The Star is pouring it all out while Temperance is moving the water from one container to another in a strange, almost supernatural way. I'm not sure what this mean but I think it could be important since they image of water containers show up in both cards.
Nivian Posted December 2, 2017 Author Posted December 2, 2017 Raven... That was very helpful and clarified what I know to be true. That is to be my authentic self I must combine elements of differing paths because that is where I'm being led. I like the Star being true to myself and Temperance being combining. Thanks for your input. I feel valued. Page... You're right about AA it's spiritual and not religious and there is plenty of wiggle room to explore my own brand of spirituality. I like starting small and building up. The water angle is interesting too as I'm a very cups type person. In Taoism water is used to exemplify going with the flow of life; going around a rock instead of through it which is impossible anyway and leads to frustration. Thanks for your response, appreciate it.

Trogon Posted December 2, 2017 Posted December 2, 2017 RavenOfSumer pretty much said things the way I was going to. The idea that a single religion is correct and the rest are wrong seems to me to be a human construct. I feel that The Star gives us the starting premise that all are just as right and all are just as wrong because people have always wanted a "one-size-fits-all" kind of religion to follow. But The Star tells us right off that Spiritulity comes from within the individual. I think this is really a primary principal in the "New Age", that each must follow their own path and The Star seems to point the way. I hope this adds something to the discussion ... ::)
Nivian Posted December 3, 2017 Author Posted December 3, 2017 Trogon thanks for adding that. I like that the Star tells us Spirituality must be an individual thing. I never understood the card until this discussion. I've always been a seeker and it seems the Star is telling me to continue on and that I will find my own way. It is a hopeful card. Thanks for posting.
Flaxen Posted December 3, 2017 Posted December 3, 2017 I don't have much to add to the interpretations you already have but The Star in this context also makes me think of Aleister Crowley and the 'Every man and every woman is a star' idea. We each are individuals with our own place and path in the universe. Tied in with this, is the idea that we have our path which is in harmony with the Universe - the problem comes when we are no longer in touch with our true Will and we veer off course. The Star as a card relating to a spiritual path, would lead me to examine what is my true will - what is in harmony with my divine self?
Nivian Posted December 4, 2017 Author Posted December 4, 2017 Flaxen, I decided to do a one card reading on what my True Will is in this lifetime and the Five of Pentacles came up. I think it means I need to stop worrying about material things and go to the source of my spirituality because that is where true wealth lies...not in the material. The church with the five golden pentacles is being ignored by the two poverty stricken individuals...but that is where they will find their comfort. Thanks for your input. Appreciate it.
