Chariot Posted September 7, 2021 Posted September 7, 2021 (edited) Just found this forum and joined up today. I am delighted to be able to interact and learn from other people around the world, who enjoy and use the tarot. I'm a 72-year-old married woman, who lives in Scotland. I've been here for 35 years—nearly half my life—but I originally came from the USA. I'm married to a Scot and very happy to be here in my chosen home, and have no wish to return to my old country. I have been reading tarot for myself and friends since the late 1970s, on both sides of The Pond, although not so often in recent years. However, my interest in working with tarot has been rekindled during lockdown, starting in early 2020. I now usually do readings or meditations with cards several times per week. I have been learning a new approaches recently, both from books and from YouTube videos, which have helped focus my reading accuracy. I've recently bought a few new decks as well, although I'm not really a collector. Just wanted to treat myself! I've also gathered courage and modified a few of my older decks😬, which has made these decks more usable for me, as they either fit my hands better, or stand out better against my reading tablecloth. I look forward to interacting here on the forum. I'm away to browse the topics now. 😃 Edited September 7, 2021 by Chariot typo

You're very lucky! I wouldn't look back, either. Scotland is gorgeous and it has an actual culture. I suspect that's part of the problem with the US - people tend to come here and lose their culture, and it's replaced with a kind of commercial faux-culture. I don't think that's good for people. Welcome aboard! See you around the threads.
HOLMES Posted September 7, 2021 Posted September 7, 2021 Welcome I am interested to know which neew decks you achieved in getting. And what if any you got your eyes on, in the future.
Chariot Posted September 7, 2021 Author Posted September 7, 2021 Thanks for the lovely welcome! I'll be happy to post some photos of my modified decks, @TT&M Family once I figure out how everything works on this forum—including posting photos. The newest decks I've received, other than the one I mentioned that I doubt I'll use, have been The Before Tarot, The Universal Tarot, The Gregory Scott Tarot, and my latest, The Llewellyn Tarot. The Llewellyn Tarot not only stands out as a beautiful deck, with cards that are easy to shuffle and deal, but the guidebook is filled with stories of Welsh mythology that the cards use for the major arcana designs. It's a storybook to read with pleasure, even before we start 'reading.' I did an 'interview' with the deck, as I usually do with a new deck, and I got a very strange result. 6 of the 7 cards in the spread were reversed. However, I tried out a trick I just learned—which is that one way to look at a reversed card is to go back to the previous numbered (upright) card and apply that lesson to the reversed card. Stone me, but the trick worked. The reading, which I had initially been tempted to discard, made perfect sense. The Before Tarot is a bit of fun, really. It shows the Rider-Waite figures as they would have been just 'before' the Rider-Waite pictures were 'taken.' The Ten of Cups is a real hoot ...the happy family in the Rider-Waite deck? Well, in this deck, they are dashing to get home during a rainstorm! Of course in the usual RW deck we see them all happy, loving the rainbow. But the Before deck shows them getting well and truly soaked! To get a rainbow, we need rain! I've used the other two once each, and they seem fine, but I need to work with them a bit more.

FallenAngel Posted September 8, 2021 Posted September 8, 2021 Hi @Chariot a warm welcome to the forum 😄
Chariot Posted September 8, 2021 Author Posted September 8, 2021 (edited) Thanks again for all the hearty welcomes! Much appreciated. I love tarot, but haven't had much experience except reading for myself and a few close friends. I'm just an old bird who has been doing it for a long while! But I read what is posted here on the forum, and in books, and watch YouTube—and realise I am just a rank beginner. I've learned so much over the past wee while, though. I hope to continue my learning journey, just for my own satisfaction. I have no interest in turning tarot reading into a business. But what I've learned lately has made my readings so much more reliably accurate for myself and my friends. I know there's a lot more to be taken on board, than what I had worked with for so many years. Tarot is truly a journey, isn't it? What a pleasant forum this seems to be!
