Wisdom of The Oracle by Colette Baron-Reid

Hi there,

wondering if anyone has this oracle deck at all? I've started using oracle decks as the messages are much clearer than through Tarot I find. In contrast to having multiple possible meanings, oracle cards offer a clear message that I am finding more helpful than Tarot in general.

This deck uses reversals as well as uprights and when you get reversals you only read the "protection message" and disregard the rest. This is great, but I'm having a little bit of difficulty knowing how to take this when a reversed card comes up in response to a question - especially one about another person. So lets say you ask a question about someone else and you get a reversal which essentially directs you to the "guidance" or advice part of the card. Would you say this guidance relates to the other person or would you take it as personal guidance for you?

Hi @RosieBlack! I do not own this particular deck by Colette Baron-Reid, but I have one of hers called "Wisdom of the Hidden Realms". One of the aspects I like about that oracle is that, when the card is upright, it's an "ally", but when it's upside down, it's a "challenger". Maybe it's similar to the idea of the "protection message" you mentioned... I quite like how it works.

As for the card being an advice for you or for the other person, I think it always refers to the person asking the reading. So if you pulled a card asking about someone else and got a reversed card giving an advice, the advice would be to YOU - on how to deal with this person, what do expect (or not), how to proceed, etc. Because there's no point for the oracle in giving an advice/warning/challenge for someone who is not... well, present.

Thanks Marina! Yes I have 3 of her decks and the reversals are pretty much challenging the reader I'd say! I thought the reversal would also apply to the person doing the reading, but some of the messages don't make sense if applied to me, but if I apply to the other person seem to make more sense. I figured that maybe the reversal meaning could be used as an answer if there were no other cards that matched that meaning...like if the cards want to give me an insight that the reversal gives but doesn't necessarily apply to me. Some of them can, others don't. So it's a confusing one! What would you do if you didn't feel the reversal message applied to you or didn't resonate with you?

Well, first I think I would review my question: did I ask something like "what do I need to know about person X's feelings/actions/etc."? Or did I just ask about person's X situation, in a way that is not explicitly related to me?

In the first case, the question is about me - what do *I* need to know, as in, what information will help *ME*? So I'd take some time to reflect on the card. Sometimes we reject responses we don't immediately like or identify with, but later on we realise they were about us. Here is where journaling about the cards help: you write down your impressions - including the fact you the card doesn't immediately resonate with you - but you can always come back to it later to see if indeed it had nothing do to, or if we just failed to realise the connection.

In the second case, since I asked only about the person and am not assuming it to be about me, then I'd read the card as pertaining entirely to the other person. But then I'd have to keep reminding myself this message is about the other and is not related to me. If an advice came, it'd be an advice meant for them.

This is why I think it's always important to have your question as clear as possible. Ana Cortez always says that the most specific the question, the most specific the answer.

Thanks @marinaoracles. Yes I was wondering how you'd apply it if the question were something like: "What is x's current energy in this situation?" I wasn't sure if the reversed card would purely be a message for me or a message for or about that other person. The guidebook says the protection message applies no matter what the question is, but it really seemed like it would apply more to the other person. It could certainly be advice for me, but I can't quite understand what the advice is sometimes. I think one reversed card was saying to take a risk or something and there are currently no risks for me to take right now so I thought it might apply more to the other person.

Thank you for your insight on it! 🙂
