KitKat Posted December 8, 2017 Posted December 8, 2017 Hello! Relatively new to the forum, but just curious how you guys charge/cleanse your tarot decks! To cleanse, I turn all of the cards upright and meditate with them. If I have time, I'll wave them over some pine or sandalwood incense and store a crystal (clear quartz, smoky quartz or black tourmaline) on them. To charge, I put some moldavite, herkimer diamond, Satyaloka clear azeztulite quartz, or a crystal that correlates with the type of reading I want to do. Sometimes, I'll make a crystal grid with my deck in the center. What do you all do?
EmpyreanKnight Posted December 8, 2017 Posted December 8, 2017 Regarding cleansing, here is another useful thread.
KitKat Posted December 8, 2017 Author Posted December 8, 2017 Regarding cleansing, here is another useful thread. EmpyreanKnight[/member] Whoops! Didn't realize there was another thread! Thank you!
EmpyreanKnight Posted December 8, 2017 Posted December 8, 2017 The thread I referenced mainly dealt with deck cleansing procedures. You asked techniques for cleansing AND charging, so I don't think this is a duplicate thread. I have very rarely charged my decks, so effective methods on this intrigues me too.
KitKat Posted December 8, 2017 Author Posted December 8, 2017 EmpyreanKnight[/member] Thank goodness! I'm glad this isn't necessarily a duplicate thread. Do you use crystals in your tarot rituals? I recently started working with moldavite and it's pretty insane! I use it to charge my decks, because of its powerful vibration. It's only found in the Czech Republic and was formed by the impact of a meteorite 14.8 million years ago. The impact was greater than all the atom bombs on earth combined and reversed the magnetic polarities of the planet. Some scientists theorize that the stone is actually from lunar volcanoes and therefore, a type of obsidian, but others believe it was formed as a combination of meteorite and earth rocks. Anyway, I'm now a strong proponent of moldavite and think it has given me some very karmic tarot readings.
EmpyreanKnight Posted December 8, 2017 Posted December 8, 2017 Yup, I work with quite a clutchful of crystals, altho I have my favorites too, like prehnite, gold sheen obsidian, dumortierite, and amethyst. I mostly use bracelets when I read tho I do have necklaces, rings, clusters, boulders, etc too. And whew I noticed that you work with a lot of high-vibration crystals! I mean, herkimer diamonds and azeztulites? I also have a moldavite ring that I wear on my little finger, but I only use it for really important rituals and readings.

I haven't worked with prehnite, gold sheen obsidian or dumortierite, but now they're on my list! Amethyst is such a great crystal. I used to charge my decks with amethyst until I got these higher vibration crystals! I do really like my high-vibration crystals! Herkimer has a special place in my soul and the azeztulites I have really bring out a lot of Major Arcana in my readings! I have a white azeztulite that I might start using to charge my tiny RWS, but I'm not sure if I'm ready for that just yet. Moldavite rings are the way, man. I wear my moldavite ring every day, but it definitely took some getting used to. It really stimulates my heart chakra though, in a very powerful way. I also wear a malachite ring. Moldavite with malachite just makes me want to transform! What are your associations with the energies of prehnite, gold sheen obsidian and dumortierite? I'm curious! I've heard prehnite has quite a high vibration and that dumortierite does as well, but I don't think I've heard of gold sheen obsidian! Tell me about it!
EmpyreanKnight Posted December 8, 2017 Posted December 8, 2017 Prehnite, especially the ones with huge epidotes, is one of my absolute favorites. Along with gold sheen obsidian I use it the most often among my crystal collection. It is so potent and effective, and it is inexpensive to boot. As the stone of prophecy, I feel that it has helped my readings become more accurate. Maybe I just happen to jive with its energies or I'm just especially attuned to its frequency, but I find working with it to be so effortless and natural. I also find it very aesthetically pleasing. I just love it. I know that one often uses upper chakra stones when performing divination, but even if prehnite is usually associated with the heart chakra due to its color, it still performs. A stone's prophetic prowess does not merely rely on what chakra/s it traditionally controls. In many cases, its historical use (and therefore efficacy) as a stone of augury is also taken into consideration. After all, one can't go wrong with something that has been deemed effective for centuries, right? Prehnite is named after the Dutch commandant Hendrik von Prehn, who was said to have "discovered" the crystal in the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa in 1813. Of course it was very well-known to the natives before then. In fact, it has been used by South African indigenous shamans since ancient times to enhance their powers of prophecy. They think that prehnite helps them take the right decisions to guide their tribe. That's why until now it is regarded as a great ally for readers and healers, and is considered a good stone to use when working with tarot or crystal balls. I always use it when I read cards and even sometimes when I'm reading Tarot books, and I highly recommend it.
KitKat Posted December 8, 2017 Author Posted December 8, 2017 EmpyreanKnight[/member] Whoa! I definitely gotta get prehnite now. A stone of prophecy is just what I need! I think that might be just what my tiny RWS deck needs. I've been charging it with tektite, but that just doesn't seem to vibe quite right.
Raggydoll Posted December 8, 2017 Posted December 8, 2017 What an interesting thread! I don't use crystals so much at the present but would like to learn more and incorporate them more. I do however charge my decks, just using my hands and concentrating. I wait until I have this electric feeling in my hands and then transfer that onto the cards. A bit hard to explain but I think you get the idea. I also feel that the full moon can help with enhancing ones energies.
KitKat Posted December 8, 2017 Author Posted December 8, 2017 Raggydoll[/member] The full moon is such a powerful force! I try to do a tarot reading every full and new moon based on the sign it's in. I definitely agree it enhances one's energies. And what a great technique! I'll have to try it later today. It sounds very meditative and right up my alley. I think the crystals I have would also aid the meditative process. Amethyst is a great starter crystal, by the way. I'd become more experienced with crystals before graduating to the higher vibration crystals like Azeztulite and Moldavite, but then again, if you walk into a store or happen across them and they call to your energy, then go for them!

Prehnite is not very expensive too, so I hope you get a good one! Interestingly, the other crystal I use in many of my readings is one that answers to the base chakra, and with its gold sheen, the solar plexus chakra. Now traditionally, black stones are the very antithesis of the third eye and crown chakra stones in that they promote grounding primarily, which from what I've read may hinder the higher chakra's psychic propensities. Black obsidian is a very different animal tho. As far as I know, when polished and crafted into mirrors, it has been used in scrying by some Mesoamerican cultures, like the Toltecs and the Mayans. To the Aztecs, obsidian was a divine stone, thought to be a form of blood originating from deep in the earth. It was sacred to the god Tezcatlipoca ("Smoking Mirror"), who presided over magic, divination, the night sky, and ancestral memory. The celebrated Elizabethan sorcerer John Dee was said to have acquired a black obsidian mirror from the Aztecs which is now displayed in the British Museum. As one account stated: . . . an Obsidian Mirror was used by John Dee (1527-1608), a famous astrologer, mathematician, magician and advisor to Queen Elizabeth I. The mirror had been brought to Europe by Cortez, after his conquest of Mexico between 1527 and 1530. John Dee and his associate Edward Kelly used the mirror to ‘see’ the Angel’s oracle text, messages from angels that were pertinent to political and social events of the Elizabethan Court and highly valued by this society. Also worthy of note are some accounts that say that one of the most well known and famous prophets, Nostradamus, is said to have used a black obsidian mirror as well as a dish filled with ink to make his famed predictions. Dumortierite is considered the Stone of Tarot. It is said to open the doors of insight, activating latent psychic abilities and instilling the gift of prophetic vision. My dumortierite stones have an absolutely lovely, opaque, deep bluish-violet color that I find so attractive. I feel so attuned to it! It's also been tagged as ideal for those working in astrology and Tarot because it is said that its consistent use can stimulate one's mental and psychic powers, and since it answers to the Third Eye Chakra it's really no surprise. I've been using mine whenever I read, and assigned it as the companion for my Rider-Waite-Smith deck, which I'm currently studying deeply right now. And with a Moh's scale of 7.0 to 8.5, it is a very hardy and resilient crystal.
KitKat Posted December 8, 2017 Author Posted December 8, 2017 EmpyreanKnight[/member] I definitely agree that obsidian is its own animal! I've seen it associated with the third eye chakra, because of its power to predict. I've actually read that grounding stones can have psychic qualities to them as well. Robert Simmons in the 'Book of Stones' mentions how grounding can help you attain higher spiritual levels and ascension. I can't find the quote right now. Anyway, I think grounding allows one, who is tuned into the higher vibrations, to bring these higher energies down onto the earth plane to aid in the enlightenment of others. Grounding stones facilitate the sharing of these vibrations. One interesting association I read was honey calcite and its ability to awaken and enhance latent psychic abilities, even though it is associated with the solar plexus chakra. I think that it has this association due to its 'gut instinct' enhancement. I think the solar plexus chakra rules a lot of our intuition as well as the third eye.
EmpyreanKnight Posted December 8, 2017 Posted December 8, 2017 Oh, I have his Pocket Book of Stones! Thanks for that bit about grounding tho. I've read before that base chakra stones (with the exception of high-vibration ones like obsidian, nuumite, tektite, etc) should not be used with higher chakra ones because they would just cancel each other out - the latter would try to push you through the stratosphere while the former would try to bring you down to earth. But the explanation you gave does make some sense, so I'm going to explore that too. Thanks for this, Moonkat235! :) Also, I just remembered that I have some Tibetan tektite too. They're a bit small.

Tibetan Tektite!!! I'm looking for a few of those right now! You should totally try charging a deck with them. I'd be willing to bet you'd draw a ridiculous amount of Major Arcana.
EmpyreanKnight Posted December 8, 2017 Posted December 8, 2017 Wow, I'll definitely try that! Thanks, Moonkat235, you sure know a whole lot about crystals. :D I've learned some things from you here. Thanks for starting this thread. :)
gregory Posted December 8, 2017 Posted December 8, 2017 I just use them. They seem happy with that. There is often incense in their storage room, but that is shared by them all!
Raggydoll Posted December 8, 2017 Posted December 8, 2017 Gregory: I think you inevitably infuse your cards with your own energies when you use them, so using them would actually be a way of charging them!
Flaxen Posted December 8, 2017 Posted December 8, 2017 I don't do anything consciously - like Gregory I just use them and store them with incense.
faerybraids Posted December 8, 2017 Posted December 8, 2017 Oh, my crystals! I haven't seen those in ages, I must have lost or misplaced them at some point during my move... I can see my rose quartz pendulum hanging off the little shelf on my crafting desk, but I'm not sure where my other crystals are. The discussion here intrigues me. For the most part I just shuffle and thank my deck to cleanse it, and I've taken to a gentle rap on the side of them as well when it feels right (I can't remember who on this forum said they did it, but thanks whoever did! Works great). I also tend to kiss each card in a reading as I return it to the deck, then kiss the back of the deck as well when I'm done thanking and reshuffling. They're just quick pecks, nothing that leaves visible spit. I'm not sure whether that counts more as charging or bonding xD but either way it's nice having that link to them. They seem sad whenever I don't do it. Every now and then I feel the urge to just hug them close to my heart and thank them or say I love them (or just squee and think it), so I do that as well. I don't know why? I think it's that linking with them thing again.
gregory Posted December 8, 2017 Posted December 8, 2017 Gregory: I think you inevitably infuse your cards with your own energies when you use them, so using them would actually be a way of charging them! I still don't see charging as necessary as such!
EmpyreanKnight Posted December 9, 2017 Posted December 9, 2017 . . .kiss the back of the deck . . . when I'm done thanking and reshuffling. They're just quick pecks, nothing that leaves visible spit. I'm not sure whether that counts more as charging or bonding xD but either way it's nice having that link to them. Lol wow I think this is the first time I've read of anyone charging a deck by kisses too. I pray before and after a reading, but aside from that I also kiss the deck (not each card) once I have said my prayers. When I'm with company, my smacks are more discreet. :)

If you don't mind my masking, how do you keep yours more discreet with company? My partner thinks the kisses are kinda cute, but I'm worried it'll be awkward if I read for other people again. Last time I read for my sister I think I just left them spread out because she was leaving soon after? But obviously that's not always going to be an option... (Sorry for missing your response!)
Raggydoll Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 I am SO waiting to hear about the discrete way of kissing your cards in public. This whole thing makes me giggle so hard ;D I think it sounds lovely and I might just have a go at it with my deck sometime ;) I wonder if my husband would react at all.. he is used to me blowing and knocking on my cards so I doubt he would even raise an eyebrow 8)
EmpyreanKnight Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 I perform a lot of self-readings, and after I say my opening and ending prayers I purse my lips and visibly kiss my deck, like so. :-* Especially if the reading is very auspicious, I sometimes close my eyes and an audible smack can be heard lol. ;D In public tho, I just bring the deck to my lips while looking somewhere else, like I'm smelling it or something, and kiss it just so, without any sound and without bunching my lips. To people looking it's just like I tapped my deck against my nose. That's how I do it discreetly, anyways. :)
