joy Posted November 1, 2021 Posted November 1, 2021 While I was searching for decks I came across this obvious pirated version of Rana George's deck. There are several stores on Etsy selling her deck. I asked Rana on Insta if she was aware she was of course disgusted but said it was US Games to sort it out. Anyone know how to go about that? https://www.etsy.com/listing/1045663966/rana-george-lenormand-oracle-cards-a-42

But she is right, if US Games can't solve that who can? Otherwise it's likely part of their job.
katrinka Posted November 1, 2021 Posted November 1, 2021 Yes, USG has lawyers to deal with these things. Nobody's been able to eradicate deck piracy, it's an endless game of Whac-A-Mole, complicated by the fact that most of this stuff is being produced in China. I just had a look at that shop, and ye gods, they have TONS of pirated crap. And everything is $14.77 even if it's limited edition and OOP. That certainly tells us everything we need to know. The colors on that pirated Rana George are awful. As much as I love Etsy, they're entirely too lax on this issue. Even if you manage to get a shop taken down, it's back before long. Maybe the USG legal team needs to go after them for accommodating these sellers.

And yes the colors are scary and I am sure so is the card stock! That must be horrible for the creator especially if you get reviews talking about colors and card stock....

Yes agree it is disgusting! The only option we have is to educate people. Some might buy pirate decks on purpose but some might just not know....
DanielJUK Posted November 1, 2021 Posted November 1, 2021 If you are an Etsy member you can report items to them. At the bottom of a product listing (also for main shop pages), scroll down to Report this item to Etsy, you have to be logged in to do it. I know that USG can issue legal threats but I like to report these things myself as well. They don't make it easy, I reported the deck @joy posted and it had stupid options, the product is not really vintage, the item is not really hand made, etc. I picked prohibited item and wrote in the box pirated deck.

They have a twisted sense of entitlement: "I couldn't afford a real one!" Well, then, use another deck, a legitimate one. I think most of us have been in the position of wanting a certain deck and not being able to afford it. It's not the end of the world. But others really don't know. Those are the ones more likely to listen. Buying pirated goods actually supports organized crime. According to Forbes, in 2018 counterfeiting was the largest criminal enterprise in the world. Sales of counterfeit and pirated goods totals $1.7 trillion per year, which is more than drugs and human trafficking. It is expected to grow to $2.8 trillion and cost 5.4 million jobs by 2022. If you see one on Instagram, facebook, or some other site, comment that it's a pirated version and the real artist isn't being paid. Make these decks something people don't even want to use in a public venue.

Done. Reported the deck AND the shop. I suggest everyone do the same.

Thanks! No I am not on Etsy 😞 . Sad that they make it so hard to report! Thanks everyone for reporting!

If I would spot a pirated deck on Insta or FB that is a good idea to just call them out!
