dancing_moon Posted December 11, 2017 Posted December 11, 2017 Hi everyone, Would there be any interest in a historical/TdM Circle? This wouldn't start before January, of course, as we're well into December already. Do you have any suggestions or ideas? I'd like to do something reasonably new with it, if there's enough interest. :)
pacificwaters Posted December 11, 2017 Posted December 11, 2017 Of course I am interested. Maybe there could be attempts at weaving TdM with other RWS decks and seeing what the picture could be or maybe combining two different systems. This is something that often excites me Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
EmpyreanKnight Posted December 11, 2017 Posted December 11, 2017 Count me in, dancing_moon! I've always wanted to explore my historical decks, and tho my TdM skills needs some polishing, I think I'd be able to acquit myself pretty well. :)
dancing_moon Posted December 11, 2017 Author Posted December 11, 2017 Thanks for the replies! Pacificwaters, that's a curious idea. I'll have to think about it, as, for me, RWS and TdM aren't exactly 'interweavable'. But there's always room for experiments. ;D EmpyreanKnight, with more and more practice, you might find them much more easily readable than you thought. I certainly did. ;)
Flaxen Posted December 11, 2017 Posted December 11, 2017 I would be interested - my TdMs have been a bit neglected of late and could do with an airing. :)
fractalgranny Posted December 11, 2017 Posted December 11, 2017 I would be interested. In which case I would enjoy it if you could delineate exactly what kinds of decks you were thinking of. I mean, it could be anything from what AT shows as TdM here http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/marseilles.shtml to anything that has unillustrated pips likke the Amano or sort-of-unillustrated pips, from the Gipsy (Zigeuner) to the Medieval Scapini.
Page of Ghosts Posted December 11, 2017 Posted December 11, 2017 If I manage to aquire a deck I'm very interested! I don't have a Marseille deck yet but I have plans to start working with it next year. So I might not be able to participate in the 1st edition depending on when I get a deck but overall I support this idea.
dancing_moon Posted December 11, 2017 Author Posted December 11, 2017 Flaxen, Page of Ghosts, you might become manic TdMers. You've been warned. ;D I would be interested. That's a good point, fractalgranny. I'll definitely make a list/reference links for the kinds of decks eligible for the Circle. :) In its most distilled version, the Circle is geared more towards TdM from the list you linked above plus, to a lesser degree, TdM-inspired decks and, very selectively, Medieval and Renaissance decks. Decks like Amano or LoS Chinese are simply pip decks, not TdM, but I'm thinking about including, perhaps, several 'layers' of decks to this Circle, to include pip decks that aren't historical/TdM per se. Hm. ???

EmpyreanKnight Posted December 12, 2017 Posted December 12, 2017 I love the choices you presented, dancing_moon. I'm seriously pumped for this. :)
Flaxen Posted December 13, 2017 Posted December 13, 2017 I often think Dame Fortune's Wheel would work well for this sort of circle. I may be biased though as I think it's a cracking deck. ;D

EmpyreanKnight Posted January 22, 2018 Posted January 22, 2018 Among the Big 3, the Marseille is the system I'm least familiar with, so I'd really want to give it a whirl. :)
skywatching Posted January 22, 2018 Posted January 22, 2018 I'd be very interested in taking part, however I only have the Ancient Italian Tarot Would that deck still be ok to use?
EmpyreanKnight Posted January 22, 2018 Posted January 22, 2018 AFAIK the Ancient Italian Tarots published by Lo Scarabeo is just the 19th Century Soprafino deck by Carlo Della Rocca. It's a historical deck so it should be OK, I think.
dancing_moon Posted January 22, 2018 Author Posted January 22, 2018 The Ancient Italian is absolutely OK. :) Thanks, EmpyreanKnight! ;)
skywatching Posted January 23, 2018 Posted January 23, 2018 Thank you for letting me know EmpyreanKnight and dancing_moon I'm looking forward to taking part in the circle :)
CharlotteK Posted January 23, 2018 Posted January 23, 2018 Hi, I'd like to join in please. I have several TdM decks and do struggle with them a bit. A circle would be great! Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
dancing_moon Posted January 23, 2018 Author Posted January 23, 2018 I'm planning to start the Circle in February. I'll post a link here once the sign-up opens. :)
EmpyreanKnight Posted January 23, 2018 Posted January 23, 2018 Finally! I'm looking forward to this, dancing_moon. :D
Bookworm Posted January 23, 2018 Posted January 23, 2018 I would like to join as well. I have a couple TdM decks, which I had given up on for a while, but I have recently wanted to take them out of hiding.
dancing_moon Posted January 28, 2018 Author Posted January 28, 2018 And here's the February sign-up thread! ;D
