They must be very frustrated and unhappy people -- deserving of our compassion. It sure can sting, though, being on the receiving end of their spiteful venom.

The Internet is a sad, sad, place sometimes. LOL I found a whole deeply unpleasant Krishnamurti forum years ago where anyone attempting to “explain” or “teach” would be jumped on by jealous members accusing them of wanting to be the next Krishnamurti and take over as leader. Someone was even threatening to sue another member for driving a family member to suicide 🤬.
DanielJUK Posted September 27, 2023 Posted September 27, 2023 We're moving off-topic to discuss other things 🙂 Let's take this thread back to the original discussion topic which was about an article in the Washington Post (published December 2021) about Tarot Cards are having a moment after the pandemic

Hypnomoon Posted September 28, 2023 Posted September 28, 2023 I will agree that the word 'guru' means teacher and that is the intended meaning. But, in the USA, the community will latch onto a meaning and then use it to exploit the rest of us. It's come to mean 'expert' or the like (elevated?) and a 'I'm more knowledgeable and wiser than you' mentality. They could just as easily call themselves a teacher or instructor. But 'guru'? Seems narcissistic to me as it may seem to the person that got bent out of shape about it. I just roll my eyes. 😉 My husband has taught accounting and business for over 55 years at the university level but, no one calls him guru. He'd have a golly laugh at that if it happened. He invites all students to call him by his first name and drop the pretense of using 'Doctor'. Wouldn't it seem odd if we started calling teachers (especially at the higher levels of US education) 'gurus'? 😄
Arania Posted September 28, 2023 Posted September 28, 2023 In Germany "guru" is used more for spiritual (and other) charlatans in the public meaning.
joy Posted September 28, 2023 Posted September 28, 2023 Hey everybody please stay on topic, we are not discussing the meaning of „Guru“. Thank you.
