Your 2018 Year Card

I always apply it on my birthday. I don't know why, it just feels more fitting to me that way. I do think the cards can overlap, what I'm particularly interested in is the shadow card of your year card i.e. Hanged Man = card 12, 1+2=3 (Shadow = card 3, Empress). I often wonder if the shadow card gives us advice that will help us learn the lessons of the main card. For example, if we embody the self-compassion and nurturing energy of The Empress, do we give ourselves the space needed to shift old attitudes and see things from a different perspective? It's interesting :) or maybe I'm just overthinking :D

OH!  I've not thought of this aspect of it before!  Mine from the Moon(18) would reduce to the Hermit(9)(one of my favorite cards in the Majors).  I'm going to have to spend some time with this! 

Now, I have a question for you, Audelia.  What happens for the card on my upcoming birthday 10-16-2018, the Sun which can be reduced to The Wheel of Fortune and then further to the Magician?  Does that make the Magician my shadow card?  This is also my life card set.

I've got The Hanged Man for my 2018 year card as well. I had a bit of a visceral reaction to calculating it the other day, but thinking on it now it might simply be a carrying on of what I'm feeling is starting within me right now (and the dread I feel towards upcoming events...). A lot of contemplating, a lot of observing without participating, a lot of justifying my decisions to myself and others. A lot of paying for those decisions and being judged on my viewpoints. So basically my usual brain on overdrive combined with more judgey-stuff than usual.

 

Nice to see a fellow hanger :D I totally get that vibe. I definitely feel this is a continuation for me of some stuff that was stirred up over the past two years. I'm anticipating a lot of contemplating and trying to get the balance right between healthy self-examination and anxiety-inducing examination. Wishing you a great year! I hope we both come out of it swinging.

I've never really gone by year cards before, so this is interesting to me. I've always wondered whether to apply it at the start of the year or at my birthday and just never quite decided which I felt was more accurate. Thinking on the past year I wonder if the cards overlap in a way because of how certain events before my birthday played out--going on that it means The Hanged Man will move in to influence Strength at the start of the year, and Strength's influence will fade out after my birthday...

Ooooooo, I had never heard of shadow cards for year cards before! That makes so much sense with my first card for the Sacred Days of Yule Spread! (It was The Empress!) :o I like your reasoning for considering it.

 

Heheh, I tend to overthink things, too. I'll have to work out what way feels best for me re: what date I calculate by, though I hope I don't end up down a rabbit hole when doing so. xD;

Using Daniel’s method I get the World for next year and Judgment for this year, which fits a whole lot better. This was *definitely* a Judgment year for me.

 

Is it cheating to move to this one?  :P

When I use Daniel's method, we have the exact same year cards, Lantana, altho I deal with birth years rather than actual years. If it resonates more with you, I don't think it's cheating or wishful thinking - you're just being true to yourself. I find myself leaning more towards his method myself based on how my card calculations for the previous years match the events of those years.

I would say that the Magician is the root shadow, with the influence of the Wheel of Fortune. So, just going on my own interpretations (and if this doesn't resonate with you then please disregard because we all know your own interpretation is what matters most! :)), The Sun is a huge energy and it can be hard to ground into, yes it's lovely to be shiny and happy all the time, but sometimes that's no practical in the real world. Enter the Magician. He's grounded in reality and he takes calculated risks that lead to happier destinations. So, achieve the Sun by practicing the nature of the Magician and actively working to make the most of your circumstances. This ramps up a notch then with the influence of the Wheel. So the Wheel tells us that fate can strike at any moment, but a good Magician also knows that he can't control everything. So even if he doesn't hit the mark with his latest risk, due to fate, he's still happy to go back to the drawing board and try again.

 

I really hope that makes sense. It makes sense in my head :D

I don't think so at all. If your intuition is resonating with that card, then definitely explore it as a year card :D

Funny, this card is so appropriate for me this year as it is one where patience, trust, faith, and endurance have already been highlighted to me as major themes for 2018. Interesting how that works...

So 2018 is going to be Judgement for me, turning to The World in the last third. I know that this is a make-or-break, sink-or-swim year for me, and I hope I'd have the strength to apply all the lessons I've learned and eventually triumph. The cards say that it is very possible tho, I just have to be smart and intrepid.

Well, everyone is different so im not sure what will happen for you. The chariot year was also the chinese year of dragon which is good for me. Was in 2012.

 

In this chariot year the following occurred -

 

Wedding

Honeymoon

Pregnancy/birth of my first child

Finished my massage course

Built our first home

Found out I had diabetes and how to control that

That's exactly how I felt. Like all my projects came to fruition. It was hard work for a few years but the chariot year was the one where they were all completed.

Everything is springing to life in this card. It shows virility or birth of a child. Energy is abound. Could signify the beginning of exciting new enterprise, career or course of study. Now I'm portrayed as the youth in the 2P juggling regardless the stormy seas that are behind me. Don't lose sight of other circumstances as you try and balance two areas of life. Explaination

Ok here with these two cards the AW put a smile on my face because the divine and the universe has confirmed that I'm going to be adopting a new sense of thing and point of view. I'm learning how to be more optimistic and helpful to try and get my depression treated after battling the beast for 8-9 years. At the moment since the 31st of December 2017 as a young woman I had to learn to be independent by supporting myself financially without of course paying for the rent, water and electricity. My mother had gotten me a job in the town in which I started at the beginning of January this year. So my end goal is to try to save up money for that doctors appointment to help and try to calm the choppy seas while trying to maintain other aspects of my life.

I do mine a little differently in method, I think because of using numerology quite a lot, I'm used to adding all the digits together, so I do the 2+0+1+8 as well as birthdates and add every individual number and then round it down to the first major arcana number.

 

I suppose both methods are valid - if I do it this way:

.....day

+..month

+2018

 

I get 14 Temperance (which starts on my birthday),

 

and if I add up all the digits one by one then I get 5 The Hierophant. I imagine the energies of both cards are relevant.

 

Which means I'm in both a Death year and a Fool (22) year until my birthday in 2018. I didn't take into account the Fool at all, but I think I'll work a bit with it from now on.

.....and sadly, the Wheel in on it's way waaay down...... for now......
