DanielJUK Posted January 22, 2022 Posted January 22, 2022 A friend sent me this article which was written for the NYTimes Style Magazine this weekend The article is behind a paywall but you get a free amount of views a month.... https://www.nytimes.com/2022/01/18/t-magazine/tarot-decks-art.html?smid=tw-share Quote The Artists and Designers Making Tarot Decks for Today For centuries, the playing cards have captivated seekers of all kinds — including creative types — and have become especially popular of late. There is some gorgeous tarot pictures in the article and they recommend some "modern" decks. These are their deck suggestions.... New Earth Resiliency Oracle Cards by Tattfoo Tan Dust II Onyx Tarot by Courtney Alexander Pagan Otherworlds Tarot by Linnea Gits and Peter Dunham Gentle Thrills Tarot by Isa Beniston I am totally enabled by the Gentle Thrills Tarot, it's so bright and colourful, totally my fave art area It seems actually quite a good article but it's more about the art and design of decks 🙂
katrinka Posted January 22, 2022 Posted January 22, 2022 They left off the best ones: Baba, Cumpstey, King Khan, etc. I do have Dust II Onyx. It's an excellent deck, very well thought-out. But the article gets this wrong: "She gave the King of Swords, traditionally a symbol of intellect, the name Papa Blade and the eyes of Kanye West..." What the Vade Mecum (guidebook) actually says is this: "Papa Blade’s face is a combination of Neil deGrasse Tyson’s features and George Washington Carver’s eyes." Intellect. The King of Swords. Ye, OTOH, is Young Blade, a Page of Swords figure: "Young Blade’s eyes come from Kanye West..." Whatever talent he possesses, he also has major issues. The red hat, the claims to be the reincarnation of Jesus, David Bowie, etc., etc....I could go on. A friend said it best: "We love Kanye, but he can't come to the cookout. We'll fix him a nice plate and take it to him." 😉 He fits the Page. There's some real instability there. I mention this only because Dust II Onyx is a really good deck. I don't want anyone to be dissuaded from getting it because the card was so grossly misrepresented. The famous people associated with the courts are assigned flawlessly.
Decan Posted January 22, 2022 Posted January 22, 2022 Apart the Pagan I didn't know these decks... I'm not sure but for the Dust II Onyx I recognized Grace Jones on a card.
gregory Posted January 22, 2022 Posted January 22, 2022 I saw the Gentle Thrills when it was up - but at that price and then the customs on top - no. The other two tarots I have - and they are both dead good.,

Brilliant! To me, that's sounds like a true friendship. They haven't given up on him. 🙂 Thank you DanielJUK for posting this. I'm strangely drawn to the " Gentle thrills tarot" deck. Not my usually cup of tea but for some reason I'm loving the deck and the artists overall brand. The bright colours and raw, uninhibited style really smack of New Orleans. Feeling very inspired!

There is one stockist in the UK, someone stocks it in a little funky clothing and apparel shop in Brighton. I went to their website but no deck listed, maybe sold out right now but they have other tarot decks! So I will look there later and see if it comes in and what kind of price. I am hoping cheaper than directly with customs / postage! The first edition (now sold out) from the American webshop is $100 just for the deck. That is a lot really. Anyway I am hoping I can find an affordable means of getting it or it is picked up by a big publisher 🤞
