How far into future can you actually get insight?

This one seems to be debatable, I remember seeing someone said 6 months on the purple tarot forum.

I'm guessing it depends on the situation and the question, how susceptible to change the situation is?

Also, does it make sense to ask when something will happen?

I've been generally avoiding it because it feels a bit too specific. Although I am aware that there are timing ties with the cards.

A lot of old tarot books talk about the 6 months time period, you can only reliably predict in that time and it's best to do another reading in 6 months sort of idea.

I love predicting as a personal divinatory interest and so I have tried it for various time periods. It really is true that the nearer to the present, the more accurate the prediction. I suspect it is about things changing, different choices, free will and there is more chance of that one outcome predicted just not happening accurately.

I use sports to make predictions as it's an easy way of doing readings during a big Cup, tournament or event, even though I don't really know much about most of the sports I predict on 🤣. Also I try not to learn anything or read up on any events I am predicting, I try to come at it with a blank mind. I was predicting in the European Football Cup last and I did a reading for the final before the first games, so the time span was about 6 weeks away, it was incorrect. The most accurate reading I did was 5 mins before a match! The longer the time, the more chance it was not accurate. I made sure I didn't know anything before both those games but I just wonder if the outcome of that match was much more destined than the final at that reading moment 6 weeks ago.

I think I largely also avoid timings in readings. When I was doing readings for myself for 2022, I did actually do some timing predictions, one predicted event happens in 8 months (or that is how I saw the 8 of Cups that came up for the timing but could also be Summer!). I will see if something does happen then. I have really found timing with tarot to be a little experimental, just see what happens in the time frames 🙂

Some people want to know when events will happen in their life, it makes sense to know some timings but I would not guarantee any timings in my readings, just use it as a rough guide.

This is a topic I find endlessly fascinating as well, and I have found the above true in my practices with the cards, the one caveat being I use the Petit Lenormand for nearly all my timing readings and haven't experimented as much with the Tarot. I'm curious to hear more about others' experiences, how far their range is, if certain topics lend themselves better to those inevitabilities in life. I'm not an astrologer (try as I might!), but I wonder how something like a birth chart--or even someone's palm for that matter--might predict lifelong trends. Maybe it's a question of scale? I would assume the cards are able to do that as well, and I'm going off of what I read in a cartomancy book by Minetta. I'm going to try to link the passage in question here. (It's on page 41 of the book/page 32 of the PDF.)

I've had success with spot on prediction as far out as 10-11 months for a major life event (a complicated, major surgery with a 1-month hospital stay to follow). This was in a 12-month general outlook reading that I did for myself in January, by October, yep, you guessed it, I was in trouble.

Typically, I keep things on a 1-3 month outlook now. Sometimes I'll do up to 6 months. I do try and keep the dread to a minimum; I hate dreading things. Looking forward to something is so nice and no news is good news 👍
