Spread for multiple relationships?

I’m wondering if there’s any specific spreads meant for reading about multiple romantic relationships at the same time (ex I’m in a relationship and want to know about any other future relationships that would interact with my current relationship). I’ve seen there is a spread for 3 person relationships but I don’t think it quite fits what I’m looking for. I’m also wondering if it would be better to do multiple small spreads and ask them as separate questions?

I think you’re best off designing your own spread and/or do multiple spreads. I generally recommend people to keep each question/position very straightforward so it is easy to know exactly what the cards are referring to. One common issue with newbies, and the reason behind many confusing readings, is that they used a pre-written spread with unclear/irrelevant positions. That’s a recipe for a bad reading experience. So it’s good that you’re taking this time to properly think things through. Also, write down the exact questions asked before starting. It’s so easy to forget what you asked and start bending the interpretations unknowingly.

Thank you for the suggestion, your advice is definitely going to be put to practice, is there any resources you would specifically recommend on making my own spreads?

I can’t think of any specific resources, it’s been so long since I started designing my own spreads that I can’t remember if there was a resource that I was helped by. Just keep it simple and don’t add too many positions to begin with! Perhaps a three card spread would be good, look at other pre-made ones for inspiration and tailor it to your special needs.

One other important thing is that you need to make sure none of the questions/spread positions are based on assumptions. If you aren’t 100% sure of something then don’t assume it in the question. So rather than “what did I do to make X angry” ask something a bit more open ended that allow other explanations for your friends bad mood, in case it wasn’t entirely because of you.

our old tarot forum, Aelectic has some spreads for 3 people or more in relationships in their archive.

Go to this page here and scroll down through the relationship spreads section to Relationship between 3 persons

You can change spreads to make them work for you, you can always take a love spread for 2 people and add a third person to it.

Some of those 3 persons spreads are really large, which is something to think about with your other thread about starting out. But there are quite a few on that page.

I quite like this triangle spread here, you can use it as a triangle between the 3 relationships....

----q-----
---1--2---

you the querent (person doing the reading) is top of the point, the Q.

then people 1 and 2 are below.

You could do person 1 as your current relationship and person 2 as a potential future person. You then look at the triangle lines about the interactions.

How would a relationship with a 3rd person work out between you and your existing partner? (Q + 1)

How would a relationship work out between you and the 2nd new potential person? (Q + 2)

How would a relationship work out between your existing partner and the new potential person? (2 + 3)

Maybe that doesn't work exactly for what you are looking for but just wanted to give you some ideas

I think that spread sounds great! Perhaps try using different decks for each relationship if you got more than one deck, if that helps...

@DanielJUK thank you for your advice, since your comment I’ve spent some time looking at the spreads you mentioned and thinking about the specific questions I’m looking to answer, the spreads gave me some great ideas and helped me narrow in on what I am looking for and I’ve been working on developing a spread to try out.

@BlueMoth I really like your suggestion of using multiple decks and as my collection expands I will definitely be trying that

I definitely went way over what I can read right now, but I think I’ve managed to make something I can work towards a ways in the future. I may start by doing a spread based on each triangle of questions I’ve made and then work towards combining them into the larger spread.

I'm new here and brand new to learning to read, and just wanted to say the suggestion about writing down the question is really helpful. Once of my concerns is that I'll subconsciously interpret the cards to align with what I want to 'hear' instead of what they're actually saying.

That’s a super common concern. Clever of you to try and prevent that!

I studied psychology and it became quite clear how my own brain does things lol. I'm not so good at helping myself, but I can see what I do... sometimes 🤣 I previously had a reading and the Death card came up, and the reader said it represented the end of the situation we were discussing, and my mind was like "or it could be a new beginning, a fresh start!". She assured me it was an end lol. But if I'd done that reading on myself, I know I would have interpreted it in a good way, coz that's what I'd wanted to hear!

Ah, yes 😄. Death is one of those cards where we often shift the focus on what might happen next, instead of focusing on what it really means. Death is death. The card is not referring to a later stage, it is referring to the actual archetype/force of death. It would be like if we saw the Lovers and interpreted it as potential divorce 😁

There's a reading i like to do mostly with my lovers path tarot as general monthly energy  and with all 4 kings cards mostly for singles or kinda like collective elemental zodiac reading but it can be used with only the court cards of the ppl you wanna include too it's called 4x4

So you pick your card to put in center like if you're an earth sign the queen of pentacles and then you find the 4 kings the four zodiac elements and you put them at an intuitive order one above you one under one right one left on any order you feel is right without seeing wich one is who i usually do 2 general 3 card readings during it as the queens monthly energy cutting the deck in three one in center one above one under at the beginning after i put the kings and in middle of reading after you choose one card for each king as a general energy from them to you then i pick a second card for the kings with the order I feel right so also this is basically a reading you can do for you or the person you're interested to see the energy of the zodiac elements on that or with that person cause it can be used with the person you're interested for in center with the queens around him too as his reading instead i learned that from a fave reader i was watching before i decide to read tarot myself and i moderate it sometimes depending on the read you wanna do so you can moderate it by your preferable reading change it add something else on it add questions for the kings etc i may post it in the future more detailed on spreads hope this helps 😊
