Shintoga Posted April 14, 2022 Posted April 14, 2022 I have dabbled in tarot reading in the past, only have one deck right now, the Tarot of the Cat People, thinking of designing my own at some point but I’ll probably not get round to it lol. I tend to come back to reading the cards when something is worrying me, which probably isn’t the healthiest approach! But I’m guessing I’m not the only person who does it.
LesleyFace Posted April 14, 2022 Posted April 14, 2022 Hello and I love cats and have recently returned to my decks as well. I am keeping a tarot journal to help me stay focused and accountable. Welcome and glad to of kind of met you Lesley
Shintoga Posted April 14, 2022 Author Posted April 14, 2022 Thank you, joy and LesleyFace! I’ve been analysing a couple of spreads I did in the last week or so, a journal would be handy and interesting to look back on.
joy Posted April 14, 2022 Posted April 14, 2022 Hi @Shintoga once you have 5 posts you can have your own journal here on the forum: https://www.thetarotforum.com/forums/forum/74-journals/ Any comment counts as a post, you do not need to open 5 posts 🙂
Shintoga Posted April 14, 2022 Author Posted April 14, 2022 Oh, cool, there’s a lot more to the forum than I was expecting 🙂 thanks,
DanielJUK Posted April 14, 2022 Posted April 14, 2022 Welcome to the community @Shintoga from another Brit! 🇬🇧🙂 I think a lot of us pick up our decks when we are worried or anxious 🙂
Shintoga Posted April 14, 2022 Author Posted April 14, 2022 I’m glad it’s not just me, DanielJUK! I’m thinking of buying another deck at some point - love the Cat People tarot but it’s not entirely readable to me. More like best in a field of one, to borrow from the late, great Terry Pratchett.
DanielJUK Posted April 14, 2022 Posted April 14, 2022 Post in our Tarot Decks area sometime to get some suggestions, you will get suggestions and want to buy many 🤣. If you are starting out get a deck with a lot of resources for guidance online, like a RWS deck or one of it's clones (similar to the original). Then my advice is to look for a deck for someone you like! If you like cats, research another cat deck but make sure in the reviews it's easy to read. There are a lot of decks out there, it's about finding one that fits what you want 🙂
TheWootique Posted April 20, 2022 Posted April 20, 2022 Hello I'm also in the UK and new I also only went to tarot in times of trouble but I started keeping a deck by my bed and would draw a card in the morning to receive a general message/vibe and then see if that played out during the day. It also helped me to learn the meanings too.

Shintoga Posted April 20, 2022 Author Posted April 20, 2022 Thanks, stephanelli! I like your avatar - were they crafted by you?

They are Mushroom Sprites and the pattern isn't one I designed (the designer is known as "Crafty Intentions" on the internet if you're interested.) Do you craft?
Shintoga Posted April 20, 2022 Author Posted April 20, 2022 I mostly knit, though have dabbled in crochet and needle felting. I did cross stitch for years, as a teenager too! How about you?

How about you? Nice! I do a lot of crafts, it's pretty much my day job now. I knit, crochet, weave, spin, dye, embroider (cross stitch and blackwork mainly) and sew (dressmaking, alterations and basic tailoring) to varying levels of competence!
Shintoga Posted April 21, 2022 Author Posted April 21, 2022 I tried sewing for a while (plushies, mostly), spinning, too, but I never really got into it and sold my wheel earlier this month. It’s cool that you can make a living from being so creative! I’ve published a knitting pattern (no sales yet, but it’s been 6 months already 😂) and writing more! My patterns are for more novelty items though.

I love making plushies and soft toys - although I tend to opt for crocheting them at the moment. When I was little, you could get all these wonderful sew your own plushies kits. I loved them! They came with precut fabric pieces which took away what I consider to be the hardest part! A couple of years ago I found a complete kit in a charity shop so had a wonderful nostalgia hit making that up! It makes me smile just thinking of it! I think that spinning is not for everyone. Some people seem to have more of a knack for it than others. 1 hour ago, Shintoga said: It’s cool that you can make a living from being so creative! I admit it's not much of a living at the moment and it often comes and goes in waves. I wouldn't be able to do it if not for my husbands steady job and supplementing it with other income (I'm also a musician..., crafting and music are my two great loves in this world). But it's good fun and I love it 😊 1 hour ago, Shintoga said: I’ve published a knitting pattern (no sales yet, but it’s been 6 months already 😂) and writing more! My patterns are for more novelty items though. Keep waiting, I'm sure it'll get there! I've published some free patterns and some of those don't have any takers. From what I understand from other designers I've spoken to, there's a lot of patterns available now and it can be hard to find your corner of the market. Keep working on it though!
Shintoga Posted April 21, 2022 Author Posted April 21, 2022 Thanks, stephanelli! I’m sure some of the patterns I’m writing at the moment will get some interest, it’s taking ages to get any of them finished though. What kind of music do you make?

I'm a folk and classical musician mainly! For classical it's mainly piano (I teach piano lessons) and flute/piccolo (in a low commitment orchestra). Folk is my main area at the moment - I play for ceilidh dancing! It's a lot of fun! I tend to play recorder, but sometimes bodhran or piano!
Shintoga Posted April 21, 2022 Author Posted April 21, 2022 I don’t have a musical bone in my body, but I did do celiedh dancing in a music lesson in high school - good fun but I don’t remember how it’s done! Do you ever get distracted watching the dancers? Lol

Shintoga Posted April 21, 2022 Author Posted April 21, 2022 You learn something every day! 🙂 is celiedh music on piccolo or flute, then?
stephanelli Posted April 21, 2022 Posted April 21, 2022 3 hours ago, Shintoga said: You learn something every day! 🙂 is celiedh music on piccolo or flute, then? Sometimes, but I'm comfortable doing ceilidh music on most instruments nowadays! Music-wise, its about learning the tunes so they come easily when I play them without much brain power on what notes I'm playing so I can focus on the dancers and working out what they need. I've come to realise that playing for dance is fairly complex, particularly when you are playing as part of a band, each player brings something different to the mix and if it all works together, makes the dancers feel like they are in sync with the music and makes dancing seem effortless.
Shintoga Posted April 21, 2022 Author Posted April 21, 2022 I can imagine how good it feels when everything is working together! *wonders if there are heavy metal covers on YouTube* (I mean, everything else has a heavy metal cover 😂)
