Connecting with Spirit

Hi, I have Spirits around me, one being my Mum's father. I want to connect with him better. I sense him often, and I talk to him, but I don't seem to get answers I 'hear', 'see' or understand. Things happen that I know are him, such as his name came up on an auto fill form, on a website I'd never been to before. I'd really love to be able to better connect with him so that I can understand what he is trying to tell me. Does anyone have any tips or recommendations for this type of thing?

One suggestion is that you take into consideration what type of person he was. That tends to be important. For instance, I have ancestors that had certain beliefs and interests that i take into consideration when honoring and communicating with them. I would not communicate the same way with my heathen ancestors as with christian ancestors, and if someone had an interest in nature then I am inclined to communicate with them out in nature. If possible, I also pick places that were important to them or that they would be familiar with. But if you do not have much information about this particular ancestor, then how about asking them to somehow let you know how they want to communicate. You could even do a tarot reading about it, or dedicate a specific deck/oracle system for communicating with them. There are so many options, really!  Good luck 🙂

I was also going to suggest doing a tarot reading about it - I think it would be polite to perhaps start by asking the cards how you can best communicate with in and go from there.  I'm a believer in communicating in the spirits preferred method rather than assuming how they want to connect.

 

I think its also really important to remember that sometimes they just want to be with you, let you know that they are there with you and don't actually have a message to give you.  Think of it like a relationship with a really good friend.  You don't ask them for questions or messages all the time, you trust that if they have something to tell you, they will do, but you're equally happy to just hang out together.

But you won't know this until you've tried connecting with him, so give it a go and see what happens!

Thanks! He died when I was a baby so I have no memory of personal experience, but I've been told he was a little quiet/reserved, but loving. I have actually seen him at my parents' home twice definitely, and possibly a few other times but was too fast for me to be sure (he used to visit us there before he passed) and I've felt him in my own apartment, even though he was never here when physically alive. I'll ask him how he wants to communicate and hopefully I'll get an answer I understand :)

Thanks! My cards arrived yesterday so I'll use them to ask the question 🙂 I've been asking him to give me a sign and saying I need his guidance. Maybe the sudden need to buy my own deck was the sign! That's a really good point about him possibly just being here for me, and will only give me a message when he specifically has something to say. I've felt like he was trying to communicate with me, but maybe he was just letting me know he is here, like a friend who hugs you but don't tell you what to do.

It’s also possible that he’s there out of curiosity; to see what became of you and get to know you. 
 

Do you have any other departed loved ones that would have known him and that you connect with well? If so, that’s an option and you can ask them about this spirit and even see if they’d be willing to help you connect. I find that to be a very good way to perform ancestral work; I start with the more recent ancestors and have them help me make connections.

 

If none of that works, and you still get the feeling that he’s trying to communicate, look to see if you can find a book that belonged to him. Preferably one he liked 🙂. And then try bibliomancy. Just make sure you explain beforehand that you wish to communicate that way. It’s a method that often works with spirits that are more reserved.

Maybe that's it. I have a great aunt who has passed and is his sister in law, but I don't feel any connection with her. I've been told she is there on 2 readings I had a few years ago, but I've never felt her presence myself. I'm thinking she may have just come through on those readings because she had something to say. She was a lovely lady but we weren't close. 

 

Bibliomancy is an interesting approach! Thanks. I'll see if my Gran still has any of his old books. I'm not sure if he is trying to communicate in so far as tell me things, but he is definitely trying to get my attention. Yesterday it was a flicking bit of light, as if sunlight coming through a gap in blinds, and stopped as soon as I acknowledged it and looked to see what was causing it - there was no light source that I could find!
