@euripides, That first row of cards for your spiritual path reminds me of myself when I committed to Buddhism. I wanted the fast track, so I went out and bought Buddha statues, beads, etc. I guess I wanted to be enlightened and wise by yesterday.😂 I finally realized that daily practice - the slow, but steady method of the Knight of Pentacles - was the only way.

Ah yes, that sounds familiar! And you're so right.  Funnily enough, when I let go of trying to stick to the spread positions and the book, there's a very clear narrative going on across both of those rows! Because it departs from the the RWS, I've been looking at the text a lot, but I think I'll go with a more intuitive reading in the first instance. Still so rusty....

Wedding festivities are finally over, and it all went perfectly!  So better late than never here!

My deck this week is Lynd Ward Tarot by Duck Soup Productions, Doug Thornsjo.

Wikipedia:

Quote

Lynd Kendall Ward (June 26, 1905 – June 28, 1985) was an American artist and novelist, known for his series of wordless novels using wood engraving, and his illustrations for juvenile and adult books. His wordless novels have influenced the development of the graphic novel. Strongly associated with his wood engravings, he also worked in watercolor, oil, brush and ink, lithography and mezzotint. Ward was a son of Methodist minister and political organizer Harry F. Ward. His best-known books are Gods’ Man and his Caldecott-winning The Biggest Bear.

The deck is made of clips from his work.  It’s mostly black and white, with some red and white cards.  To me, it has a somewhat dark emotional vibe, but that just makes the positive cards more rich in feeling.  Paradoxically (?), I connect better with an art collage deck if I don’t know much (or anything) about the original artwork, and that’s definitely what’s happening here.  So let’s see what happens this week!

Interview time!

Most important characteristic:  III Pentacles

The deck is a work of art created from works of art.  It’s not just a collage of pretty, or interesting, illustrations.

Strength:  VII Pentacles

The deck has all the ingredients or building blocks of a strong, meaningful tarot, but I’m going to have to kind of build meaning into it myself.

Weakness:  VI Wands

As I already mentioned, the deck has a dark vibe, even on many usually positive cards, like this one.  The lawyer knows he’s right and walks on, undeterred and serious, ignoring the people jeering at him.  That is a victory of sorts, but it would be more of a victory if the others were cheering, not jeering!  It can be a weakness to be so sure you’re right that you ignore criticism.

What I can learn from the deck:  II Swords

Not sure why the sphynx is 2 Swords . . .  Let’s give it a try.  This looks like a picture in a book.  We know the physical fact of the sphynx, but from what I understand, scholars don’t really know everything about it:  how old it is, who built it, etc.  So the deck can teach me to make decisions without having all the facts.

How can I learn it?  Lovers

With commitment and trust.  And emotion.  We’ve been taught not to trust our feelings, but sometimes they’re the best final test of whether something is right or not.  This is appropriately one of the red cards.  Very passionate.

Outcome of our work together:  Universe

Whoa!  I kinda think the deck might be overpromising!  But I do love this dynamic illustration!  Working with this deck can really mean a lot and be powerful if I let it.

Wow, that was fun!  I’m on to the full moon thread to keep the readings going!

@Rachelcat That deck is cool. I like its style.

Here's my weekly time management Spread. I'm going to assume that anyone who cares about GOT has seen it at this point so this my only warning that spoilers come with my readings of this deck. Maybe.

1. What to prioritize this week: The Fool

Go ahead. Touch the dragon. I dare you. While I don't think it's foolish, I should be going home Saturday after 7 weeks away so that is an adventure. Not nearly as scary as touching a dragon.

2. How can I better organize my time? The World

Here we have a map of Westeros. When I see maps like this, I think of battle plans. A strategic approach leads to success.

3. A way to be productive without feeling overwhelmed: The Tower

The vines are climbing up, up, up. The dog is looking up, up, up. Brandon climbed up, up, up. Then he saw something he shouldn't have and came crashing down, down, down. On the other hand there is a lot of up in this card and I am going north, which is often displayed as the top or upward part of the map. See the previous card. 😛

4. How can I incorporate what I love? Six of Spears.

I can go horseback riding. Probably not 😞 I am, however, going for a ride. Look's like I successfully accomplished what I came here to do and it is time to move on.

5. Something new I can try to increase self care. Two of Swords

Is it Arya Stark or No One? When she joined the Faceless Ones at the Temple of Black and White she was told that she would have to become no one. That meant leaving all trappings of her previous life behind. The metal sword is Needle. Her first lesson with it was "Stick 'em with the pointy end." I think the wooden sword represents giving up her identity. Letting Needle go. She ended up hiding Needle. The girl was No One until she learned what she wanted, then Arya Stark stood tall and left the Temple of Black and White sailing back home and fulfilling the promises she made to herself every night.

I really like this deck because the scenes they chose for the cards really represent them well, I think. Of course I am a fan of the books and did watch the entire series, so they bring back memories for me.

20220517_104405.thumb.jpg.90da077a15df89cbd5db047fe054e3fe.jpg Today's cards I'm asking about the path, but I feel they're speaking to where I am at this moment. I don't normally do reversals but I'd cut the deck upside-down and drew all three reversed, so I feel this is telling me something.

The Ace of Wands reversed indicates blocked creative energy (this is so very much the case right now). The leaves falling from the wand really speak to the season here, with the autumn leaves falling - though interestingly those are green leaves that have been cast from the rod and new buds appear to be forming. In the distance, a stag stands proud with a full set of antlers. Perhaps this is the place that I want to be: feeling a sense of power and self-containment; it reads as the view before me, and the World figure and vesica stands between me and there. Interestingly, the stag stands just back of the cliff that the fool could easily be bumbling over. I'm sure he'd leap across the chasm with ease.

The World is completion of a stage; the figure holds two wands, and glows with a fire like that of the sun. Thinking about these two together, and focusing on the path, with both the One and the World symbolizing completion, I feel that this is about taking control and moving into a new stage. The Druidcraft points out that 'the World reversed is The Hanged Man: where the World dances free, the Hanged Man is suspended and restricted and must wait'

The Four of Pentacles, the wealth-hoarder, seems a little at odds with the first two cards. Stagnation. The sun is glowing outside the window while the figure opens the chest to store his gold. I'm wondering if this is about 'freeing up some wealth'  - getting on top of mundane concerns, perhaps investing in a course or even travel to free the hanged man, facilitate growth and exploration and the dance of ideas.

Years ago I did a reading for someone that had the World right above the Hanged Man (RWS) and I noticed how they were like mirror images of each other. I didn't quite put together them being reversals of each other but I totally see that.

Rachelcat, have you seen the movie 'Metropolis'? This artwork made me think of it. Do look for some clips on youtube.

I'd never thought of it that way, but it totally makes sense.

Just drew my summary card for yesterday and it was the exact same card --The Chariot. So you know, I shuffle twelve times and cut twice between shuffles. I love my Dali deck 🙂

It was my first deck ever and I swear it's bewitched or something. I must be doing something right with it.

Yes!!!  I didn't make the connection, but they really are very similar.  Kind of a retro future clean, hard, and vertical dystopia.  The city is a beautiful but unyielding landscape, and people move around uncomfortably in it.  Thanks for pointing that out!  It really focuses the dark vibe . . .

Greetings to all my DOTW friends!

With my mini Greenwood deck in hand - my deck for all this month -  I am sending you all love from the stormy and still snowy coast of Northern Quebec, where we are looking at Whales, Sea Lions, all kinds of sea Birds and floating icebergs.

It will be at least another month, until I am back home and then return here on a regular weekly basis.

It is great to see, that the group had grown!♥

Blessings to you all!

So about Monday's Druidcraft reading: I just found the booklet for the Greenwood (that I'm considering buying) and found that they align the Winter Solstice (which we're approaching and I've been thinking about)  with the Hermit, Justice, and Eights. So I'm sitting here with my mind quietly blown.

I'm missing the party here, I wish this week wasn't kicking my tail. Check out this card I drew after losing something important at work today. Diligence and care toe very effort, in service of what will come. Lessons I need to learn.

Hope you are all doing well tonight.

so often the cards just nail it. This deck is adorable by the way. I'm not  generally a fairytale/fairy/goblin fan but the characters and details are a delight.

Single card draw. I'm pretty certain I shuffled in properly, and got the Ace of Wands again. The gift of creative energy. I've been too busy for anything creative, but perhaps the creative elements in the assessments I'm grading today can inspire me to do some of my own. I really  need to find that spark again.  Some comments in the Druidcraft text, which I won't go into here as some may find my position critical, confirm that I've made the right choice regarding OBOD/BDO.

@euripides I'm happy to hear you've been enjoying my deck images.

Two pulls today. First question:  What may I expect / what is the next step with my vacation time with my family?GFT_TenofBoons.thumb.jpg.f660061371a67a67bfa010702caa4591.jpg

Result -- Ten of Boons. (ten of Discs / Pentacles).  This was a pleasure to pull, as it reminded me that I can adjust my

mindset to try my best to enjoy the time ahead, sans the stressors that will come.

Second -- the work challenge I am facing with an unresolved issue, what may I expect / What is my next step?

result -- Keeper of challenges (king of Swords)

"This wizards is not evil, but he is also not your friend."   A perfect description of the powers that be that I may need

to face to resolve my work issue.

The suggestion was to gather my facts, experiences and data -- as it will be judged fairly but sternly.

makes sense.

Thankfully, it is Friday, so the Keeper challenges (and I) can hopefully get some rest.

Happy weekend everyone.

I didn't share any of my daily draws this week but I kept up with it and felt that the Paulina Tarot and the Tarot of Vampyres weirdly complemented each other and helped me transition into a different mood where I now feel ready for a full spring-time deck, even if every day is vampire season in my heart. Really liked to see the different decks people worked with this week, for those of you who shared your readings! Honestly a lot of my deck-lust these days is satiated by seeing the decks here in DotW and watching youtube videos of people's collections 😊

I enjoy sometimes working simultaneously with vastly different decks. As you put it, weirdly complimentary is a perfect description of what often results.  Glad to hear you are doing well and enjoying this.
