mainemainemaine Posted May 18, 2022 Posted May 18, 2022 Okay. Real talk. HOW do some of you shuffle so quickly??? What’s the secret and how can I get better at it???
RunningWild Posted May 18, 2022 Posted May 18, 2022 Practice makes perfect. The size of the cards matter, too. The larger the deck, the slower it goes. If you don't riffle and bridge, it won't matter as much. Overhand works just as well.
Raggydoll Posted May 19, 2022 Posted May 19, 2022 I can shuffle quick, but I typically don’t. If I shuffle quickly then it gets too hard for me to pick up on the cues that tell me when it’s time to stop shuffling. So I go slow and that works great for me. If you look at YouTube or other video platforms you’ll see a large number of quick shuffling readers, I am aware of that. I feel like it has almost become a thing where they’ll want to shuffle aggressively to seem more competent. Personally, I don’t think that is something that reflects the tarot world at large. People are different. But if you want to get better at shuffling, it is all about practice, like @runningwild said!
Wyrdkiss Posted May 19, 2022 Posted May 19, 2022 Practice your method, you'll be rocking it in no time. I vertical over-hand shuffle, and loudly. That makes me a special kind of strange.
RunningWild Posted May 19, 2022 Posted May 19, 2022 (edited) No, not at all. Some seem to shuffle quickly to save time especially if you're watching them shuffle on youtube or any other video format. If you notice, some have already pre-shuffled prior to doing the video and some have even already laid out the cards before beginning the video. So the speed you shuffle the deck is only important, I suppose, if you're trying to conserve time so you can get to the juicy business of doing the reading. Edited May 19, 2022 by RunningWild
gregory Posted May 19, 2022 Posted May 19, 2022 (edited) I'd say - don't even think about the speed of your shuffle. Take your time - as you also should over actually reading. It's all a process, not to be hurried. Edited May 19, 2022 by gregory
DanielJUK Posted May 19, 2022 Posted May 19, 2022 I know some pro readers have learnt Magician type tricks with shuffling and handling the cards. But really it is showing off, giving a bit of a show 😂 I am a messy shuffler with too big hands and it works for me. I don't do it to impress and for me it's not important! But if you want to get good at it, watch YouTube videos, look up some card magicians and keep practising with the cards and handling them!
euripides Posted May 19, 2022 Posted May 19, 2022 I watched a video the other day - likely Benebel Wen I think - and she did that thing - riffle shuffle? - where you thumb the corners of both decks and they interleave - and it was like, wow. So fast and crisp. Very impressive. With my big decks particularly I'm a slow shuffler. The Druidcraft and Rohrig are HUGE. I sometimes deal them into three or four piles and stack them back again. Cutting into piles and drawing from each pile, rather than from the top, helps ensure I'm not re-drawing a cluster that hasn't been effectively shuffled.
Pierre Posted May 20, 2022 Posted May 20, 2022 I can do all the shuffles, but if I do back-to-back readings, I just do a quick, deliberate overhand shuffle a few times and leave it. I always fan the cards out on the table and have the seeker pick 10 cards at random, so shuffling is less important, I think. YMMV. p.s. - Anyone else have the seeker pick out random cards? Just curious.
