Lorem Posted July 23, 2022 Posted July 23, 2022 Hi! (Newbie warning) I did a reading for myself a few days ago, and now I did another reading on a similar question with a different spread. I was wondering - are you refining your reading on previous session based on a session done later on? Do you take the new information to reinforce or contradict previous reading? Would you give more weight to interpretations that are common for both readings over ones that include change, for example in decision spreads, that the preferable option is different than in the initial reading? Lorem.
DanielJUK Posted July 24, 2022 Posted July 24, 2022 This is tough for us to answer because really only you can analyse both readings. Do they have the same message? has the message changed between them? Only you can decide the answers to these questions about the readings. Becareful reading on the same thing over and over. the tarot will start to get mega confusing. Unless something new has come up or you are reading with a different perspective, it doesn't help to ask more on it. Often you need to ask what you want to know and sit on it, see what happens.
gregory Posted July 24, 2022 Posted July 24, 2022 I would run with the first reading. As Daniel says unless something has changed, the message was there. You need to focus on what you got, and let it get through to you.
Vesta Posted July 24, 2022 Posted July 24, 2022 I think the first reading contains the answer to your question and that further readings only tend to muddy the waters. Sometimes it helps me to put the reading away for day or so and then look at it again armed with a glass of wine.
happysquirrel Posted July 25, 2022 Posted July 25, 2022 I do new session after some time ( 20 days minimum), or if something significantly changed in the situation that's being read on. Until then, I stick to the first reading. Hope this helps.
Rosa Posted July 25, 2022 Posted July 25, 2022 The readings that I do on a subject is the reading for that moment. It is my belief that cards will give you insight on a matter. Sometimes a reading is not clear and when doing another reading a few days later, formulating a different question but about the same subject can give more insight. However, when I don't get a reading I leave it and don't draw other cards because in the end your readings will become clouded and will tell you what you want to hear and not what the cards say.
Lorem Posted July 25, 2022 Author Posted July 25, 2022 Thank you everyone for the insights! The question came to my mind after I did a second reading 2 days after an initial one. I did a second reading because I found it difficult to understand the message of the first one. I was advised in this forum (thanks!) to maybe do another reading with a more suitable question and spread, and so I did. I was wondering if and how I can use the second reading to learn how to interpret better the next time, in case more insight would unveil on the second reading.
Chariot Posted August 15, 2022 Posted August 15, 2022 I think there's a difference between doing a second reading because you don't like what the first one told you, and doing a second reading because the first one didn't make sense. As others have suggested, asking the same question over and over until you get the answer you want is probably not going to be very helpful. (And you may never get the answer you want!) If the reading makes sense—even if you don't like what it's telling you—go with it. If the reading doesn't make sense, I'd do two things: One - Journal the reading, so you have a record of it. The meaning may well become clear a bit later on. It may be dealing with people or issues you aren't aware of yet. I've had that happen to me many times! Two - Use Clarification Cards to help nail the meaning of one or two puzzling cards. However, if none of the cards make sense, maybe wait a day or two and try again. Sometimes readings truly don't work, for various reasons. Not often, but sometimes....
legendaryelement Posted August 16, 2022 Posted August 16, 2022 Hello, @Lorem When I need/want clarification, I will pull a card/cast a symbol from a separate oracle. Sabian Symbol degree color (as associated with a zodiac degree) rune etc
