Tarot reflecting negative thoughts

Has anyone ever experienced being in a. Negative space and just having lots of doubts and every reading you do reflecting that? Your worst fear being the outcome of every reading ?

I’m starting to wonder if the outcomes or truly negative or if the readings are just a reflection of my thoughts

I am sorry to hear that @Justkeepushing12.

Tarot can reflect our thoughts and emotions. Sometimes we cannot read for ourselves, we are just too close to it. You can only know if they are negative or it's a reflection by getting a second opinion. Perhaps get a reading from someone else, get a professional reading or post your readings in our Personal Tarot Readings area and get different opinions. It's often hard to know but certain things are impossible to read on ourselves at times.

Also I think there is a tarot trap that we read to get what we want to hear, often we want positive news when we are in a bad place. But the tarot tells us what we need to hear and sometimes we don't want that. I don't read on anything I don't think I could cope with hearing or could handle emotionally.  You can also make sure your readings are positive and open ended in questions, questions and topics can make all the difference.

When I was first learning tarot, I was in a mentally bad place and very depressed. My readings reflected that, especially future readings were very negative. As things got better in my mind (and things do always change in life, it's the one guarantee!), my readings got more positive. Get some other opinions of your outcomes and I hope things get better for you in future 🙂

This makes a lot of sense. I feel like the outcomes reflect my biggest fears. The outcomes I know that would absolutely devastate me are reflected in the cards. For me one of my biggest fears is never getting the chance to be a mother. I’ve spent so many years focused on my education and career. Now career wise I’ve finally reached a level where I feel like I can focus on other things, when I ask the cards about it, it’s literally all doom and gloom. My sister did a reading for me and it was the total opposite of what my reading showed. I was confused and this triggered my anxiety in the sense of whose reading is correct. I think maybe I should stop trying to read for myself until this isn’t so heavy on my mind

I feel we've had a similar thread recently, if you have a look around the activity, it might be helpful.

I have found the same at times - whatever is dominating my thoughts also dominates my readings. The truth might sit somewhere between your sister's readings and your own... both things can be true at once.

My suggestion is to really try to frame topics in very specific and positive ways: 'what action do I need to take today?'. Think about your aspects of your life - work, romance, family, hobbies/passions, spirit - focusing on one area might help you to see things more clearly than if it's a single amorphous mass.

Certainly stepping away from reading can help, if you keep circling back to the same concerns. I have a friend who doesn't read at all when their partner is away, as they're always worried about them.

You can also try deliberately drawing some positive cards (ie turn the deck face up and choose cards you like) and meditate on how the energy of those cards might help you. This can be a nice non-divinatory way to keep engaged with your decks.
