rivertarot Posted August 15, 2022 Posted August 15, 2022 How often do we need to cleanse or clear our Tarot cards? I understand that it is better to cleanse the Tarot cards after doing a reading for another person. If we use the Tarot cards only for our personal reading, do we need to cleanse the cards before each reading (especially if you do daily guidance reading)? Thank you.
Raggydoll Posted August 15, 2022 Posted August 15, 2022 Cleansing is a personal preference, not a necessity. Many people never cleanse or clear their decks while others do it regularly. I don’t. If you do a forum search you will likely find other threads on this topic 🙂
Chariot Posted August 15, 2022 Posted August 15, 2022 I always cleanse mine at the end of every session, simply by putting them back in 'order' so that the next session isn't affected by what happened during the present session. I love handling the cards, and this is a very calming exercise for me. If I'm doing several readings in a session, for several different people, I simply use a different deck for each person. (One good reason to have many decks, right? 🙂) I'll put them back in order later on.
Mirath Posted August 15, 2022 Posted August 15, 2022 I’ve (pretty quickly) developed the habit of knocking on my cards twice before I even pick them up. I guess it’s a way of ‘waking them up’ - but that’s just my feel of why I do it. I generally tend to shuffle real well after I do a reading. Right now, these are only for myself, so this may change in the future.
KiMo Posted August 15, 2022 Posted August 15, 2022 I've never cleansed my decks as such, but when I start a reading, before shuffling, I'll hold the cards for a moment and envisage a light around them. I think this is more about me than it is about the cards though, a way of quieting myself and focusing my concentration and intention. Every now and again I'll have the urge to grab a deck and just shuffle it mindlessly for a little while, or occasionally I'll put a deck back into order with all the cards upright, but again I think this is more about me and having a small moment of connection.
rivertarot Posted August 24, 2022 Author Posted August 24, 2022 Thank you very much for your replies Raggydoll, Chariot, Mirath, and KiMo 🙂
Jasmine Posted October 5, 2022 Posted October 5, 2022 I cleanse my cards with incense when I feel drawn to. Not after every single reading for myself though. If I was doing a reading for another person I would cleanse before and after.
gregory Posted October 5, 2022 Posted October 5, 2022 Never. Unless we get jam on them or something !
Little Fang Posted October 5, 2022 Posted October 5, 2022 I go by my gut feeling on if my deck needs a Cleanse or not. Also if a reading was particularly bad or sad, a Cleanse doesn't hurt either. I will place a crystal on top the deck and sometimes I give them full moonlight. I like to wave them through incense smoke at the start of a reading as an offering of sorts!
Rodney Posted October 9, 2022 Posted October 9, 2022 I'm into my 32nd year with tarot. The only time I "cleanse" a deck is to put it back in order. And I only do that if I think I'm going to have to pull cards from it in reference before I have to do another reading with it. My TCDE (Tarot Crack Dealer and Enabler) will sometimes gift me decks. I will put them back in order to ensure all the cards are there as she is known to put the cards from a reading she did somewhere away from the deck and then not remember when she gives the deck to me....
AJ-ish/Sharyn Posted October 9, 2022 Posted October 9, 2022 I order my decks when I get them to make sure all the cards are there. I never do it again until I sell/gift/trade. Haven't a clue what cleansing is... but the fun of tarot is your deck your rules. Just don't get all caught up in "I heard". Somewhere here is a whole thread on tarot myths and I heards.

This is what I do also and I feel the same about not getting caught up in the ‘I heard…’ messages. @rivertarot, you’ll discover what resonates best with you. @Rodney, 😊 how nice she gifts you decks.

djat1984 Posted October 27, 2022 Posted October 27, 2022 Hello, I like to keep it simple: I usually cleanse and purify my Tarot decks over night with a selenite or quartz stone that I leave on top of the deck.
Eric13 Posted October 27, 2022 Posted October 27, 2022 I'll third the "Never." Occasionally I'll put my cards back in order occasionally, but that's just for me. The cards aren't magic. They're mass produced (some of them) and sold on shelves. The reader is thee magic so to speak.

But also, even being just a tool, and doing these things to it can alter our feelings and mental state when using it. 🙂 So it's important to many.

Oh sure. I respect people who want to cleanse their decks. Its all a matter of feeling good.
