Tips for de-enabling / decluttering tarot collecting

I pulled a load of decks from my collection and they are waiting in a box to see how much I miss them   I think I've pulled maybe 10 back so far (out of about 90 ) so I feel I'm doing okay. Some will get sold online, some donated.

And I must keep repeating the mantra - I don't DO oracle decks, I don't do oracle decks!

I consider myself to be a collector of Tarot decks and always on the look out for new ones. I spend time going round boot fairs and quite often people are selling decks for £1 or so. I have picked up some unusual decks this way.

One deck I bought off a woman at a boot fair and after she passed me the box, she wiped her hands off on her jeans likes she was wiping grease off her hands and the look on her face like she had just touched something evil 🤔.

😹 I'm curious what deck it was!

I sold some at a rummage sale a few summers back - before Covid. I put them at like $5 each. They all got snaffled up by one woman, maybe 5 or 6 decks. When she saw them she got a look I can only describe as extremely intense. She super wanted them, all of them. And ran off, arms full, like she'd robbed a dragon's hoard.

I've been continuing to weed through my decks but probably will go eBay with the next batch. The problem being I hate selling on eBay. 😾

I’m in the same boat! I have a ton of decks I’d like to sell but eBay seems to be the only realistic way to shift them. Especially the OOP ones. 😩

LOL you totally made that woman's day };>

I also have mixed feelings about ebay [I've sold a bunch of dance costumes on there but no cards as yet]. Basically I'm to the point that unless something is worth a LOT of money ... I'd rather just donate it than eff around with ebay. Thus I've donated all the tarots in this last round of purging.

Yes. If I ever sell my rare decks I will prolly be forced to use ebay [or etsy?] ... but otherwise I get a good feeling from donating. The good karma replaces the small amount of money I might have made on ebay. Then again ... i donate a few decks at a time. It's not like I have hundreds or anything.

It's always worth listing decks / OOP decks in the trading section here. I am sure some members would be so happy to find the rare deck they have been looking for.

There isn't always going to be interest but at least if someone is interested, it's going to a good home or will use it 🙂

Yes, she was very happy! 😸

I agree, eBay isn't worth it unless it's worth a bit. I don't think anyone's likely to buy a mass market, in print deck on eBay, not when they could get it on Amazon. I could be wrong! I did have decent luck selling on Etsy. Speaking of donating, I forgot that I had re-homed some of mine into a take-a-book, leave-a-book box by the health food store. They were gone the next day! I'll probably do that with the next batch of common decks.

Thank you for reminding me! We have to be subscribers, right? I plan to subscribe, after next payday. I'd much rather some of my rarer ones go to collectors we know. It's probably where they came from to begin with anyway! the circulating tarot library!

@Laura Borealis you do have to, same as Aeclectic's policy, but it would be lovely if you want to join us when you want to in future. There is also a subscriber competition and an off-topic area 🙂 .

lol, maybe all the rare oop decks just circle around the community :classic_laugh:

Don't talk to me about death cleaning; I was executor for a friend who died 7 years ago, and now I have my late husband's stuff as well, not to mention a lot of actual trash I need to deal with, and I'm 77...

Well, it took me many years to decide to unload a few decks, but the first time I did, I put them out on our dealers' table at a science fiction convention, and one person bought the lot, same as mentioned above! Another time, I took some to an annual esoteric conference and donated them to the raffle, and last fall I did the same. Also last fall the organizers set up a time and place to bring decks and the like to swap. But overall I haven't unloaded that many; and frankly, decks are far from being what needs to be thinned out the most around here! (We won't discuss my kitchen or dining room....)

I was able to sell more than a dozen of my decks two years ago at some local Facebook groups. Loved how some buyers got super excited (and grateful too!) when they chanced upon a great find. ☺

I'll definitely sell a few more of my decks in the future when I have the time. Will offer them at very friendly prices of course.
