Here is what I have of The World so far. I'm so pleased with that cow/taurus, I think it's the first time I've tried to draw a cow too. The lineart and the colouring I have so far.

Why is the nudity necessary for taurus? Does it pose some sort of symbolism?

the woman in the center is an adept that has gained understanding and power over the world, by attaining a level of understanding of the things represented by the wreath the animals (the cow, lion, eagle , and man represent the four quadrants of the sky/zodiac representing earth, fire, water, and air. ), and her wands. nudity in tarot typically represents a person exposed to the actions of the world or a person so advanced they do not need to protect themselves form the actions of the world.

i think the 5th card is the Taurus card in this deck.

Thanks for jumping in, I was so confused and tired that I didn't know where to start, haha :[

I was referring to the cow in the bottom left corner of my World card, which is commonly thought to symbolize Taurus and the earth element. Some years ago in religion class I had kind of an epiphany where I realised the four creatures in the corners in this card are the same as the symbols for the four evangelists and their books that make up the story of Jesus and his life. Pretty cool!

In tarot most parts of the image end up becoming a symbol for the reader, even if it wasn't intended by the artist. A lot is on us and what we see in the cards / how we interpret it. So yeah, the central lady being partially nude is or becomes a symbol.

In tarot as a whole I don't think it is necessary for her to be unclothed - there are a lot of clothed or very different World cards I own that also manage to express the completion, celebration and joyful ending I associate with this Major. But for the purpose of my project, which is to paint the images of the RWS with whatever changes I feel necessary (so far not that many) and connect more with the cards that way, I like her as she is. She reminds me of one of those Greek statues from the antiquity and since she is partially covered by a purple cloth you could make something out from that too.

Yes it's been a while! I've taken a little break from this project since I had a lot of other paintings I wanted to get to and it's a good thing to develop my art outside my tarot project since I'm staying so close to the RWS. It's not forgotten and I hope to return to it sometime this summer, but I don't know when.

I hope your project is going well too, I haven't been very active in the last month on here but I think what you're doing is pretty cool even if I am an astrology noob - though I found a decent book at the thift store so maybe I'll be less of a noob in time :)

I had to take a break to...though it is not a break i began designing an app for an astrological tool with a team so I actually have to pull my weight...and I realized I should just make my LWB as an app as well, UHG!!!

I have about 26 cards left to design and I can just relax and paint the pictures.....

I can't wait to see you get back into it after time off.

We probably do! If you haven't read all of this thread I think I've explained (and if not, here it is) that this is a personal project I do mostly for fun since I'm a big fan of the RWS so it becomes kind of like bonding more closely with the imagery and I wanted to see if I could commit to a long-time project, as well as get back into painting again after a long time away from it :) If I manage to create all 78 paintings, and that's a big if, I'd love to print at least a copy for myself to have, but this is in no way a project I plan on putting a lot of money into to profit from. The RWS-market is so saturated already and we probably have almost every version of it possible so I don't think I need to add to that ;)

Yes, I don't have a good track record with finishing all my grand plans so I will be very impressed with myself should I manage to complete it!

I have gently started to dip my toes back into drawing cards, but my large sketch pad which I use to stretch the paper is occupied by a large tiger in a forest (a much belated birthday gift) so it will be a while before I get to paint. Need to finish that tiger ;) The Ace of Wands lineart is finished, saved for a few details on the stick, and I've started to work on the Ace of Swords too, saving Pents for last as foliage isn't something I'm very good at drawing. I wish to be so I imagine I'll be sketching some before I start on the actual lineart. I feel like my break did me good - I've been drawing a lot with big markers without any undersketch and I think I'm dillydallying a lot less with the undersketches now, being more secure in my lines. I'll try to get a picture of my lineart soon, might wait till I have the AoS ready. I'm really really bad at stretching paper so I look forward to getting these aces done. By that point I should have more money so I can invest in some seriously thick paper that doesn't need stretching and won't buckle  <3

How did I not see this thread before?! This is great work, Page of Ghosts[/member] ! Thanks for sharing this with us!

I can see how you would notice a lot of details when you give the deck this level of attention while recreating.

I'll be following along now! :)

Thank you Rose! It's not the busiest thread in this section so it's easy to miss. A fun project for sure :))

Here is the lineart for the Ace of Wands. I will add some details on the great wand later. I never noticed how phallic the shape of it is untill I was drawing it myself!

Thank you Jewel! I just butchered my Ace of Swords that I was pretty much finished with painting after I decided to thicken the lines... didn't really like the look of it :/ Will probably let it rest a while and get on with this Ace of Wands instead then!

Thank you for the interest! I'm not really sure how it went with that ace of wands, it's in a big folder with at least a little bit of colour on it. The sky got painted blue if I remember it right. I ended up taking a break from my tarot project as I wanted to work on my artistic expression in general and have been away from the forum for some months. I hope to finish the project some day, right now I'm still trying to find my way with art in general. I make some headway and feel like I'm on the right path, then I soon feel so very lost again :o
