DanielJUK Posted September 22, 2022 Posted September 22, 2022 We are approaching the Autumn Equinox here, the nights are drawing in and it's cooler outside. We are starting to see mists and wet grass in the mornings, trees are losing their leaves and mushrooms have started appearing. We are not quite at this tree colour level here yet 🍂 What are your favourite tarot decks to use during this season? Also which decks and cards are best themed for Autumn / Fall? This season encompasses Samhain / Halloween at the end of October. Wanted to collect the best decks for this season in this thread. We will do a season every 3 months, so people can share their decks for that themed season and our Southern Hemisphere friends won't feel left out. Eventually there will be 4 threads 🙂 .
DanielJUK Posted September 22, 2022 Author Posted September 22, 2022 I think the Stretch Tarot is quite Autumn coloured. I don't think it was designed to theme with Autumn but it's collaged and altered vintage card images have the browns of the season. Vintage always feels autumnal somehow and so it has the colours for the season. The Halloween Tarot is a fun cartoony RWS clone. It really is probably one of the best Halloween decks there is and the backgrounds of the cards a have reds, yellows, oranges and browns of the season and the dark nights as they draw in. Also it's fun to spot the black cat in every single card.
Flaxen Posted September 22, 2022 Posted September 22, 2022 There are a few decks I think of as ‘autumnal’ - sometimes to do with the theme itself, sometimes it’s more the colour palette. All Hallows - fits the Halloween season so well. Hudes and Secret Forest have images and colours which just evoke the Autumn to me. I tend to find myself drawn to decks with more muted tones than at other times of year. Also, ones which have deep spiritual layers to peel back. The season is more quiet and contemplative for me so lends itself to study.
KiMo Posted September 22, 2022 Posted September 22, 2022 I think the Pagan Otherworlds Tarot feels quite Autumnal, the landscapes look like the season is just about to turn or is already there, with a brisk breeze blowing!
Niobium Posted September 22, 2022 Posted September 22, 2022 Tarot of the Unknown is a must for me this time of year. I got The Happy Halloween Tarot by Soni Graves earlier this year, so I'll be getting that one out as well. Gothamancy is pretty thematic as well!
Little Fang Posted September 23, 2022 Posted September 23, 2022 If you have some favorite Fall/Halloween themed decks, please consider submitting them to our Deck Library! 🙂
Guest Posted September 28, 2022 Posted September 28, 2022 The intense colors of the Morgan Greer strike me as autumnal. Remind me of golden afternoons and medieval epics.
Raggydoll Posted September 28, 2022 Posted September 28, 2022 I think Mythologica Fennica tarot is a good pick for autumn and so is herbcrafters tarot are we allowed to feature oracles? @DanielJUK. if so, then White Hare Wisdom is a perfect fit

Raggydoll Posted September 20, 2023 Posted September 20, 2023 What decks are you all eager to reach for this fall? Any decks that have especially strong autumn vibes? I’d like to see both tarot and oracles !

Never thought of seasonal decks. I love Golden Wheel at all times of year ... but especially for colder weather. It's palette uses many rich yellows and golds--autumn colors. b/c it's Russian themed ... many landscapes have snow ... so it evokes cold weather. Mucha deck, also. It's colors are muted ... but the palette is rich and warm. It feel appropriate to autumn equinox. I must admit I'm a scrooge. I despise Halloween themed decks. I loathe seeing tarot cards on sale at Target next to stale candy and silly t-shirts. A pagan high holy day debased into commercialism is bad enough ... and then they had to drag tarot into it? OK, rant over. I realize many people find halloween decks a bit of harmless seasonal fun };> Edited September 20, 2023 by Misterei
Raggydoll Posted September 21, 2023 Posted September 21, 2023 I have already featured some of my autumn vibe decks, but here are a couple more that I’ll be working with this autumn/winter! Sacred Heartsisters Oracle This is a Swedish indie deck Dreamtime reading cards Massmarket deck that I have trimmed so that it’s easier to shuffle The Inner compass cards Indie deck. I use it all year round, but it’s particularly good for darker times when I lack energy. It takes me no effort to read these cards, and they have a way of delivering every message - even the harder ones - in a gentle, yet straightforward, way. The Pythia Botanica oracle Another indie deck that I like a lot for this season. The booklet is the only real downside, there is no order to how the cards are registered and it takes a lot of flipping to read up on every card (I believe there is a new edition out there so maybe they fixed that though). The Green wheel oracle This is a deck I don’t use often but I hope to start using it more. So I can’t say it’s a favorite, but it has autumn vibes to me. I tend to just use the animal cards and not bother with the sabbath cards or moon cards, since they follow a Celtic pattern that I don’t really resonate with. The artwork is stunning! Fortune telling deck This last deck I wasn’t sure if I was going to feature, but it is in my pile of decks that I’m currently drawn to working with, so I decided to include it here. I think it’s lovely for this season (and I’m sure it will work for any season!). This one is not a commercially available deck, it was a personal project where I reproduced an historical fortune telling deck that dates from the 1700s.

I remember you posting the pictures after they arrived from the printers! The colours (or lack of colours) definitely make it seem a more autumnal or winter deck option 😊 I keep forgetting to print mine off One deck that seems autumnal themed is The Woodland Wardens deck. I've yet to buy it, but I keep getting drawn to it. The images seem to invoke the feeling of harvest for some reason, probably the colour pallet? But also memories of being in the woods as a kid with all the leaves falling. Maybe I'll bite the bullet and get it as my first seasonal deck and first oracle deck 😁

And it’s very traditional, in a fortune-telling kind of way, which I like! I’m less inclined to use it for guidance-readings or wellness readings, I have other decks that do those readings better. 9 minutes ago, akiva said: One deck that seems autumnal themed is The Woodland Wardens deck. The reason why I haven’t bought it is a bit petty and superficial, but I really don’t like those big white borders. And it wouldn’t be an easy deck to trim, so I’ve decided against it. Though I would love to see more of it, so if you do get it, be sure to feature it on the forum 😊

This is spurring me on to get mine printed. It definitely has a tableau kind of vibe to the deck. Do you use the whole deck? When I was looking at the images I did wonder if it could be slimmed down a bit. IIRC there cards that are a bit similar? 2 hours ago, Raggydoll said: I’ve seen this deck and think the artwork looks stunning. This is partly why I've not bought it too. The other part is once I give in and buy one oracle, when would it stop? 😂

I wouldn't say that there are many similar cards. The two that strike me as a bit similar are Good nature and Benevolence, but when looking at the instructions, they do have different meanings. But do take the time to go through them and decide for yourself. And if you find another way of working with it, I would love to hear about it! 6 minutes ago, akiva said: This is partly why I've not bought it too. Just flicked through the deck images again and you're right. Not sure where I got that idea from! I wish more decks like this were designed. It screams cosy readings on cold nights inside that cottage card 😆
KiMo Posted September 22, 2023 Posted September 22, 2023 Here are some decks that I think are particularly autumnal, although I found it quite hard to decide between the decks that I have because this is my favourite time of year and it's a bit of a vibe for me 😅 I've said it before and I'll say it again, the Pagan Otherworlds Tarot because I love it so much: The Carnival at the End of the World (which doesn't seem to want to be photographed well, so apologies): I Naibi di Giovanni Vacchetta: Honourable mentions go to the RainShadow Tarot and the Herbcrafters Tarot, as well as the Faceted Garden Oracle.
KiMo Posted September 22, 2023 Posted September 22, 2023 Oh and speaking of oracles, this cutie, because I smell forest mulch and mud when I look at it:

GreatDane Posted September 23, 2023 Posted September 23, 2023 GREAT timing for this, Dan! The leaves are just starting to change and I especially think not just Fall, but Samhain. Nothing has really been catching my fancy I don't already have. OH Dan, wondering if you could start one for Lenormand as well? I have my fav decks SO far, but I tend to pick up more Lenormand decks than tarot because I read Lenormand more for others. 🙂

Plus the cardstock was SO slippery, it flew out of my hands all the time. But maybe that’s more due to my EDS/Spondyloarthritis hands 😅
