Hello all!

We actually moved to Oklahoma recently, from Ireland. I grew up in the Pacific Northwest (which has a history of weirdness). I am a lover of God and of all lovers of God, and a purveyor of the strange things of our Maker. My first real contact with Tarot was The Greater Trumps by Charles Williams - I love his novels, especially The Greater Trumps and The Place of the Lion. I am interested in such things as casting lots, dreams (uninterpreted or interpreted), and apotropaic magic - in general the surreal, symbolic, sexual, intricate, eerie.

Happy Sabbath!

welcome! I think I'm going to have to look into those novels you mentioned. I'm always looking for a good book to read.

Welcome @Kneeling that's quite the move from America to Ireland and then back 🙂 Glad you have found us here to bring your interests here :animated-smileys-signs-085::78496:

Another I would recommend is Angel Fall by Coleman Luck - a surreal fantasy with an intriguing "pantheon" of angels.

Sorry I haven't been interacting - I'm having a hard time finding topics I can engage with in less than 100 words, haha. 😄

Kneeling, how long have you been reading Tarot?

So sorry: I've been checking for notifications, but none showed up for your message (I've changed the notification settings to hopefully fix that).

I don't remember when it was that I first read The Greater Trumps, but I believe it was over a decade ago. The small amount of research I did then inspired me to feature tarot in some of my stories. The first story of mine to refer to tarot, which I completed, was a short story called In "Our Father's Hand", published in the anthology "Fantastic Schools Vol. 2". Just a few days ago (in time for Halloween) "Fantastic Schools Hols" was published, with a short story of mine called "Flames of the Everywhere", which also features tarot. I made a silly mistake in that one though, writing "fifty-two" suited cards accidentally instead of "fifty-six". 😐 Grinding my teeth over that a bit. Saw the mistake maybe a week after the final draft was submitted. Oh well, story to tell your children.

My most recent exploration of tarot began in just these last two months, which led me to this site (and the old AT site). I don't have a deck myself yet, but probably won't for now, as I live with my family, and they would consider the artwork of some - of the Tarot de Marseilles, for example, one of my favourites - to be indecent. Of course I don't consider the Tarot de Marseilles indecent, being plain line drawings, but I don't think it would be polite of me to be flashing something in front of them they would be honestly offended by. Different cultures you know. 🙂

I am hoping to design one or two decks, to be the decks referred to in my stories.

Haha, @Strength I realised that if your default notification settings are the same as mine were, you probably haven't seen my last message since I didn't mention you. 🙂

Haha, you are so right @Kneeling. I definitely didn't see your message. I cringe with you over the 52 instead of 56. Are there any other decks that speak to you that wouldn't raise eyebrows?

I thank you for your commiseration.

Not really, haha. I could of course design one that wouldn't raise the eyebrows so very high, like a first draft, while the final decks would be a longer project, and would have more in common with the historical forms.

Incidentally @Strength, the notification setting I changed was to check the box for "Notification list" under "Followed Content".

Thanks! I changed that now.
