Grandma Posted November 5, 2022 Posted November 5, 2022 Is/will this be an important deck in Tarot, a kind of collection-would-not-be-complete-without-it? I don't know as much about Benebell Wen as I probably should, but that is the sense I get. Please don't hesitate to tell me if am completely mistaken. I've been wrong about bigger things than this!
Misterei Posted November 5, 2022 Posted November 5, 2022 Hello, Thank you for posting this! I missed the 2019-2020 Vitruvian edition b/c I was soooo broke I couldn't see spending $65 on cards ... then my finances improved but the deck was out of print ... and selling for $300 as a "collectors item" on e-bay. Ummm. No thanks. Anyway ... that sepia-toned edition was my favorite ... and it may retain more value as this colorized edition is now in its second run ... which means it's less rare ... ANYWAY ... my finances are such that I can now afford the $65 + shipping (ends up being $75). I have mixed feelings about Wenn's system. It's kabbalah based ... I'm not into kabbalah ... but i find the artwork compelling. And although I disagree with her system ... it has merit. Benebell Wenn is nothing if not a deep thinker and thorough researcher! Anyway ... it's not like it fills a hole in my collection or anything. I'm waiting on Il Meneghello to re-release their Piedmontese tarots ... I'm a sucker for historic Italian decks and definitely collect significant decks of this genre. SKT may turn out to be an "eye candy" deck or a "study" deck for me. I don't know that I'll end up using it. I have some decks that are purely to enjoy the imagery ... SKT might be in that category for me. Ymmv, of course.
Niobium Posted November 5, 2022 Author Posted November 5, 2022 @Grandma As Misterei said, since this version is being printed a second time and is in color, it's not likely to reach the collectible value of the other two. From that perspective I wouldn't recommend it. Her system is incredibly complex and layered and IME requires a fair bit of reading. She does provide a detailed guidebook as a PDF (I think it's about $40 to have it printed as it's HUGE) so you're not flailing pointlessly. I personally found it to be a worthwhile addition, though my connection isn't terribly large. This printing has a more golden tone, from the look of it.
Grandma Posted November 5, 2022 Posted November 5, 2022 Thank you @Misterei and @Niobium for the information!
