Advice on using Tarot to feel out the future, sometimes with big decisions

Hi all. This sub has been helpful thus far! I am ill (I keep drawing the Ten of Swords, which means I have reached my limit) so while I rest, I seek to grow always,

I personally do believe God (Divine etc) speaks to us in different ways, and Tarot may be one of them for some of us. (first post on this page today was about that...synchronicity? maybe) I have on very rare occasions experienced prophetic visions in prayer, but I think the Tarot may be another valid and more nuanced way of receiving advice.

For instance, I asked about help in careers. I drew the Three of Cups. Not understanding it, I asked for clarification and drew the Three of Pentacles. By themselves, these cards didn't seem to answer my query, but when I asked before, I was told that the answers would also lie in other people. I drew another clarifying card, the Queen of Swords.

Taken by themselves they seemed to make no sense, but in the light of what I know? So the Queen of Swords to me meant using intellect as well as intuition to make the right decision. Previously, I had been led astray by too much intuition, so this card made sense to me now.

I don't want to write too much, but I am hopeful Tarot can be a way forwards if I use it in an ethical manner, especially in areas in which I am being bombarded with information and no clear path forwards (such as publishing)

I'd like to know more, as well as your thoughts!

Hmm. I'm not sure how to help you. For example if I want career advice I would do either a 10-card spread (for more global exploration) or a 7-card spread if i had a more targeted question. I might do a 6-card spread if I'm comparing two job offers.

Also many of "career spreads" posted on-line or in books on Tarot spreads. I wouldn't try to get career advice from one card.

This is me ... ymmv.

I typically use the 5 card spread for everything, but I was tired and so I pulled a few cards which seemed congruent?

There's lots of ways you can use tarot to get an idea of what might happen in the future.

If you're trying to make decisions you could use a spread that looks at the options you have to choose between.

If you are exploring a particular issue you could use a past present future spread as the past and present can provide valuable insights to the future.

I like to use spreads that are designed to best work with the question I'm asking so you might find that helpful.

If you're ill, remember to rest up. I don't think we need to be growing all the time. Sometimes we have to pause. Feel better soon!

I think your cards made a lot of sense actually. 3 of cups indicates networking, and the 3 of pentacles has the theme of collaboration. Both those things can help

your career. If I may give you a piece of advice, then try to resist pulling clarifiers. I don’t find it helpful and it can hinder growth for newbie readers. The Queen of swords is highly competent at cutting her way through redundant information and getting to the core of things. I think that’s a good piece of advice, but the real answer to your career question was in the very first card. You’ll need to put yourself out there, make connections and show off your skills - possibly through a collaboration.

If you want specific advice when doing a reading, you need to use specific positions in a spread, it makes it much less confusing to interpret. If you want to just freestyle it and see what comes up, then you just do 3 or however many cards in a reading. I say that as someone who does freestyle readings most of the time. Also how you ask the question is so important! I see people post readings here all the time who have done both these errors a/ wrong spread or layout used for what is needed b/ wrong question asked. What will help my career ahead? is a good open ended question. Also go specific, what will help me get this job or get through this job interview? Watch out for yes / no ending questions which give answers which are much harder to work out the answer. Will my career get better? the tarot will try to answer with a yes / no, but it's not a binary system.

just some suggestions to get the perfect help. I really trust tarot now and my interpretation but it's how you do the reading which can really affect the quality of the answer 🙂

get specific in what you want to know
