Shadow Posted November 9, 2022 Posted November 9, 2022 I've been partaking in a Tarot Therapy course recently after 20 years of inutitive reading I've found out that there are many different types of styles and so I thought I'd ask; What is your reading style? Infinite Pure Love Shadow
Raggydoll Posted November 9, 2022 Posted November 9, 2022 Mine is a mix. It’s part traditional meanings/symbolism, part intuition and part psychic. It also depends on what type of reading I’m doing. Sometimes I do pure psychic readings, but most often it is a mix to some degree or other. Regarding intuition/vs psychic readings.. Intuition is what I use to decide which of all the potential card meanings that are relevant to the sitter. Psychic readings are vision-based readings that are triggered either by the cards and/or by the sitter, and it gives me information that goes beyond what the cards imply - but has so far never contradicted the message of the cards.
Flaxen Posted November 9, 2022 Posted November 9, 2022 I also use a mix in my readings. Traditional symbolism (whether Neoplatonic, Christian or Golden Dawn), astrology and intuition.

What is the Golden Dawn version?
DanielJUK Posted November 9, 2022 Posted November 9, 2022 I've moved this thread to the main tarot discussion area as it doesn't quite fit in the tarot spreads section 😃

Infinite Pure Love Shadow Hello Shadow, I took a class with Tom Benjamin about this topic and we referenced a book written by Christine Jette, Professional Tarot: The Business of Reading, Consulting and Teaching where she described several styles of readers. The Teacher The Interpreter The Healer The Mystic The Alchemist A combination Are you referring to these or something else?
gregory Posted November 9, 2022 Posted November 9, 2022 I'm definitely a 6. Different ways different days, too.

The Teacher The Interpreter The Healer The Mystic The Alchemist A combination Are you referring to these or something else? Ohhh, interesting! I love these as well. The ones I learnt recently are: Analytic Style ~ Each card is analysed for its own multiple meanings that require further introspection. Based on their personal reflections and insight, the querent gets to make their own mind up about the information given to them. Therapeutic Style ~ This is based on how the reader feels when observing and perceiving the card through their senses, supported by mirroring back to the client based on therapeutic practices such as holding space, active listening, summarising, and paraphrasing to name a few. It's more about the client tuning into their subconscious by interpreting the cards for themselves and guiding them through it to illuminate what they mean to them. Psychic Style ~ based on the reader connecting to their senses to read and interpret the cards intuitively as well as any other messages that come through channelling. It is said the reader doesn't really need the cards at all as they depend more specifically on their psychic abilities. Magical Style ~ this is based more on personal development approach with a positive mindset towards overcoming obstacles and viewing the silver lining in ways that can assist the client to evolve and level up in their lives. The narrative or the story is explored encouraging to create breakthrough moments via different perspectives. If we can create limiting stories that hold us back you bet we can create empowering ones that help us soar! Global Approach ~ from what I've learnt and know so far, this is a combination of them all. I feel this is also very intuitive that has it's own organic flow
Rafa Posted November 16, 2022 Posted November 16, 2022 I'd say my style is Magical Therapeutic 😁, but I'm still a cartomancy neophyte. I've noticed though that when I get in the "zone" there's an element of tough love to my readings that I'm not sure will get better or worse with time... For those who have done readings for years, do you feel like your style has changed over time?

Same here. My intuition leans more toward focusing more on certain cards than others, and looking at imagry in cards that "speak" to me at times. I'm in the process of developing (embracing?) My intuitive side. It's a big step, makes me a bit nervous, actually.

Esclarmonde Posted November 18, 2022 Posted November 18, 2022 I also use a mix, with some magical aspects, and some analytical, but not the way it's described in Shadow's post. For me analysis involves looking at the reading (i.e. the cards as they are laid out in a spread) and looking for coherence between the cards and the message they are conveying.

I use this approach, too. I want to see the relationships, and feel them, too, when I can. What do they have in common and how does that common thread address the question.

Robert Place has some good books and at least one video about neoplatonism in Tarot. It's a pretty fascinating history ... but look for the video where Angelo Nassios interviews Robert Place to get the quick cliff notes version.
