RunningWild Posted December 15, 2022 Posted December 15, 2022 I've been pondering this idea for a while. I'm not at a loss for tarot decks but there are always those that I wish I'd been able to purchase when they first came out or those that others have acquired recently that I find intriguing but have been unable to afford because of current circumstances and that will likely be unavailable by the time the wheel, once again, turns in my favor. I don't intentionally collect tarot decks but I currently have just under 100 of them and no, I am not going to "cull the herd." Banish the thought! My taste in artwork has changed over the 15 years since I was reintroduced to the cards. I would have liked to been able to get The Greenwood, for example. Why? I think it was among the first of its kind. Less christian-y even if some of the symbolism had to stay nearly the same in order to keep relevant to the system. Mostly I've solved that dilemma by getting the images that are freely available and some day I might even have them printed on nice paper stock (think linen). Another deck is one that @gregory recently received: Magicians, Martyrs and Madmen https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/travismchenry/magicians-martyrs-and-madmen-tarot?ref=discovery&term=Magicians%2C Martyrs and Madmen And a third is a deck that I could only find on Amazon France which is a deck used for playing the game. It's not a Marseille deck and I can't find the name of it now but it's a low priority. And oddly enough, that's it. I'm not one to stalk Kickstarter or any of the other places people look. Tarot forums are really the only place I discover new decks because I like to see how other people are getting on with them. So what decks are on your wish list?
PathWalker Posted December 15, 2022 Posted December 15, 2022 Just four decks on my list: * Yellow De Laurence *Pasasalamat Tarot _ Lynyrd Narcisco *Nature Speaks Tarot - Linda Cortelessi *Any version of Midnight Masquerade by Chronata Each of them hard to find for different reasons. The yellow deck is just so bright and sunny, I had a red but it never really excited me, but the yellow is such fun. The Lynyrd deck was a very special little deck made as a gift from him to folks who were able to support him at one time. I wasn't around to do that then. But I love all the diverse styles he was creating, and have all the others from that early period, it would be nice to complete the collection. The Nature Speaks - its an oracle really, but beautiful, I dream of seeing one one day . . . The deck by Chronata - not many were made, and each one in a different box. Hand made and such a joy. And that's it. Occasionally I see a deck that I feel I'd like to own - I have backed the Austin Osman Spare deck for example, - but mostly I am very content now with wat I have, and rarely see anything so 'different' that it speaks to me
RunningWild Posted December 16, 2022 Author Posted December 16, 2022 The first two seem to be available at Tarot Garden and of those two, the second is interesting to me but the cost of the first one had me choking.
PathWalker Posted December 17, 2022 Posted December 17, 2022 (edited) Firstly, I should have said, I am in the UK - that makes buying decks from the USA almost impossible these days - import charges on top of actual costs make it seriously painful! I also think you'll find that the Pasasalamat and the De Laurence - whilst listed - are not available as such. You can add them on your wishlist but not buy them Like you, I wish I'd been able to get some things when they were first available, now I simply long for them LOL When you've been collection for a long time the things left on your wishlist tend to be HFT or very expensive, or both. Otherwise you'd already have it! Edited December 17, 2022 by PathWalker
gregory Posted December 17, 2022 Posted December 17, 2022 I would be ULTRA surprised if anyone managed a Pasasalamat - as they were gifted by Ly as thank you decks, I know I would never pass mine on.

You are allowed by the creator to print your own copy for personal use: https://voicewithinthecards.wordpress.com/greenwood-tarot-book/ Here are some resources: https://www.printerstudio.com/unique-ideas/blank-playing-cards.html?

I have seen one for sale in all the years I've been looking - but I didn't think I could afford it at the time - it wasn't so near the top of my list at that point LOL
gregory Posted December 18, 2022 Posted December 18, 2022 It always makes me sad to see them up for sale - it feels disrespectful to Ly !
PathWalker Posted December 18, 2022 Posted December 18, 2022 I don't know whose deck it was, it was being sold by a known tarot trader (hence the price). Perhaps not all of those gifted are now keeping decks?
gregory Posted December 18, 2022 Posted December 18, 2022 I guess the time comes to us all. But of all the decks out there, that one is one of THE most special I own.

RunningWild Posted December 18, 2022 Author Posted December 18, 2022 This is a bit on the cheeky side but... @gregory is there anything left on your wish list? Say, for example, if shipping and VAT weren't so high and that you weren't required to break into Lo Scarabeo, the Kaplan collection, or some Italian museum in the middle of the night in order to acquire? I'm just being nosy. 😁
gregory Posted December 18, 2022 Posted December 18, 2022 I have no issues with Lo Scarabeo; I visit there all the time. I WANT the Wooden Kashmiri. I almost bought it once, with my emergency car replacement savings.... Also the Sangreal Thoth. And there are a good few others, including the yellow and orange De Laurences - but I am trying to slow down, in consideration for the people who will have to deal when I pop my clogs,
rylla Posted January 15, 2023 Posted January 15, 2023 I am desperately seeking the Solara Occulto first or second edition and the Teracotta tarot . There are on my wishlist as I can't find them.
Niobium Posted January 23, 2023 Posted January 23, 2023 The good news is there's a reprint of Solara Occulto due some time soon. She's expanding it into a tarot+oracle so it'll be a hefty deck. Teracotta is one I looked at a while ago but ultimately didn't get, and then of course the Everything happened. You might be able to ask the folks at Modern Magic (modernmagic_shop on instagram, you can DM them direct) as they're in Russia and have generally been able to get things overseas. Might be expensive though.
Guest Posted January 24, 2023 Posted January 24, 2023 The sole rare deck I only ever really desire is a brand spanking new Le Grand Tarot Belline.

Ah well, better late than never they say...
