SLK Posted December 20, 2022 Posted December 20, 2022 Hi all, Which way of learning did you find the easiest way to remember the basic meanings of the cards before adding in your intuitive thoughts. Thanks
gregory Posted December 20, 2022 Posted December 20, 2022 Using the cards. A lot. And also creating my own deck. But it isn't supposed to be "easy"....
Raggydoll Posted December 20, 2022 Posted December 20, 2022 It comes down to time and repetition. I selected a handful of resources that resonated with me, and I used them to study each card in depth. I wrote down my favorite meanings and created a tarot binder that I referenced in my readings. But it takes time to really grasp every card as well as to understand card combinations. It’s like learning another language. Surely you’ve had to learn something difficult in the past? Contemplate what strategies that benefited you then, and see if you can apply it to your tarot studies.
DanielJUK Posted December 20, 2022 Posted December 20, 2022 Depending on your learning style, different methods will help 🙂 I do like the system of learning where you choose 2 or 3 keywords for each card. You sometimes see keywords listed for cards but this is about creating your own keywords. Read a lot of opinions and interpretations and work out each card for yourself. A few keywords helps your remember the core message of the card. They are not the total message, just prompts to help you learn. Other people do better with the card image, spend some time with the card image and decide what it means to you. What is the message? What symbols or parts stick out the most to you? Different parts might jump out at you differently depending on each reading. Like the others have said, time and practice makes it much easier, so don't be too hard on yourself 🙂

Thanks Numerous readings due to practice guidebook a book based on my deck meanings also watching numerous other readers before helped me to get a variety of meanings and combinations i read intuitively but if you don't know the meanings even reading like that cannot help to express easier what you see if that makes sense like it's easier if you know the meanings your intuition can flow easier before i knew it was like i couldn't find the right words while i was feeling the energies thought and surprisingly reading others helped too and definitely helped at some degree to be able to read me Edited December 20, 2022 by Aliki
RunningWild Posted December 20, 2022 Posted December 20, 2022 First I looked at all the cards, and then the book meanings. I kept journals of the readings I did. Meanings change over time and you may add or subtract from those meanings as you gain more experience. The best part is, there's no deadline for learning. Some people pick it up right away and others take more time.

fire cat pickles Posted December 20, 2022 Posted December 20, 2022 I only recently started an online journal. I have never kept a pen and paper journal. I am not a "journalist" by any stretch of the imagination--no patience for it! Hats off to those who do... I started with writing and memorizing my own keywords with each card (for the minors) like danieljuk suggested. I went a step further and alphabetized my meanings (2 of Wands/Swords/Cups/Pents started with an A word, 3 of Wands/Swords/Cups/Pents with a B word, 3 of Wands/Swords/Cups/Pents with a C word, etc.) I made a chart. I wish I still had it but this was years ago... 😞 I didn't have meanings or the Aces of Court cards IIFC. You can also get a cheap deck of playing cards and write your keywords on them with a sharpie and use it as a flashcard deck.
Ix Chel Posted December 21, 2022 Posted December 21, 2022 Learning Tarot is not an easy proces. I started a Tarot Journal and made a summary from various Tarot sources. The result is, that my Tarot Journal is more a book written by myself. I also connected everything to Tarot cards. For example if I watched a Friends episodes, and I saw Monica cooking, then she was the Queen of Pentacles. If I saw Joey eating and dating, then he was for me the 9 of Cups, but also the Devil. If you had to wait, it would be the 4 of Swords.
emilyn Posted December 22, 2022 Posted December 22, 2022 Journals are so helpful when learning, but learning cards is not easy. I learned it with continuous repetition.
gregory Posted December 22, 2022 Posted December 22, 2022 I have never kept a journal. I have kept readings and the feedback I got - but not in a very organised way. I really did find creating my own deck was the BEST way; having to think about what I needed to get across really cemented things in my mind - so it could be worth trying creating a card for any one you find hard ?
Rosebud Posted January 7, 2023 Posted January 7, 2023 I eventually remember the card meanings by doing a daily draw. At first I use a digital tarot app like Mystic Mondays or Labyrinthos because it is so easy 😁 or using various tarot app published from the Fools' Dog developer daily. Those apps really help me to quickly lookup tarot card meanings so this helps me to remember the traditional meanings. However after a while I use my own physical deck (almost) daily, interchangeably with digital deck because I feel if I count too much on reading "traditional" meaning from the apps, I feel restricted. I feel more creative and freer when I use physical deck. But like the other said, it comes from repetition to remember the card meanings, although I would say it's more about understanding, not remembering.
