Raggydoll Posted January 4, 2018 Posted January 4, 2018 I got a little inspired after seeing the thread about best deck purchases of 2017, so I thought it would be equally interesting to hear about decks that you were less happy about purchasing. It doesn't have to be a deck that you completely hate and really wish you hadn't bought (although, please feel free to share if this is the case!) it might just as well be a deck that disappointed you in some way or one that you really liked but never could connect with. So, I'll go first. My worst purchase, and actually the only deck in my collection that I am seriously tempted to throw out, is my new version of the Albano Waite. The cardstock felt so cheap and the printing quality was just awful. I guess I am only hanging on to this deck because I haven't found a vintage version of it yet, but as soon as I do...
gregory Posted January 4, 2018 Posted January 4, 2018 Janet Boyer's Coffee Tarot. Backed on Kickstarter as I liked her Snowland. BITTERLY regretted. No redeeming merits even of any kind.

EmpyreanKnight Posted January 5, 2018 Posted January 5, 2018 I'm glad that I never regretted any of my deck purchases last year, so there's that. The art in the Coffee Tarot was competent enough, I just don't get the whole thing.
katrinka Posted January 5, 2018 Posted January 5, 2018 I don't regret any, either. But I do my deck shopping in Morris the Cat mode.
Lantana Posted January 8, 2018 Posted January 8, 2018 I don't think I completely regret any deck buy this year, but I do think that if I bought the Minimalist Oracle first I wouldn't have ended up buying the Pythia Botanica Oracle. The Minimalist kind of quenched my thirst for any oracle deck, and I've ended up using the Pythia a whopping two times since I bought it. That being said, I did buy it right before winter hit, so many this just isn't the right time for it. We'll see how it fares when spring comes back. This topic made me remember how upset I was when I first got the Prisma Visions because of the glossy cardstock that wanted to rip itself apart every time you shuffled. Took me a while to get over it! And now the Numinous is going to have the same glossy glided stock... The world, it tests me. ::)
Emilija Posted January 9, 2018 Posted January 9, 2018 1001 Nights Tarot had too small of details, and the Chinese Tarot was the wrong fit.
Amethyst indigo Posted January 12, 2018 Posted January 12, 2018 Ostara tarot. The cards themselves are so plastic I could use them as coasters, the edges shed so much glitter that it ends up all over me, just trying to peel the cards apart.
GreatDane Posted February 26, 2019 Posted February 26, 2019 I only got two TAROT decks in 2017 and neither are keepers for me. Ancient Italian - only because I decided I really wanted illustrated pips Mystical Tarot - thought it was interesting when I saw images, but just didn't work for me is unique and has a bit of a Salvador Dali vibe
DanielJUK Posted February 26, 2019 Posted February 26, 2019 Mine would be the The Original Rider Waite Tarot Deck. It didn't come out in 2017 but I bought it towards the end of the year. I really wanted a second RWS deck to use for readings and bought this. But it's really a reproduction (not original!) and the colours are so dark and gloomy, more so than the Pamela Colman Smith Commemorative deck. The deck is not a good reproduction, each card has a brown tint over it, it's not nice quality and when I read with it, it makes me feel depressed with the gloominess and I love RWS! However something good came out of it! Talking to Sulis privately and complaining about this deck, she recommended her newest buy, Lo Scarabeo's RWS Pamela Colman Smith deck and omg it's so bright and colourful! It's now my fave RWS clone. Out of RWS darkness, came light
Rupicapra Posted February 26, 2019 Posted February 26, 2019 Mine would be the The Original Rider Waite Tarot Deck. I got it too! Well, I got it last year and not 2017, but I just wanted to say that I agree. I wanted a deck as close to the original as possible, especially for the colours, but this one is not nice at all. The black outlines are superthick and yes, a strange tint! I'm going to use it as practise deck and to write keywords, symbols etc on the cards, I won't be upset to do that to the cards of this deck. I'll have a look at the LoScarabeo's deck you mention :)
GreatDane Posted February 26, 2019 Posted February 26, 2019 love this blast to the past...ok just 2017! But interesting looking back on decks I got that didn't really do it for me. And those were the last tarot decks I bought, I haven't found any I HAD to have since, but I'm pretty happy with my collection. 2019 HAS just gotten going though :)
DarkeyedRaven48 Posted February 26, 2019 Posted February 26, 2019 Good morning! Mine would be the Ceccoli decks tarot & oracle Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
lemonbunny Posted February 26, 2019 Posted February 26, 2019 The art in the Coffee Tarot was competent enough, I just don't get the whole thing. I agree. The artwork isn't bad...I just don't understand it all.
bookshop Posted March 5, 2019 Posted March 5, 2019 Is there a thread for 2018? Or can we put our 2018 picks here as well? :D
GreatDane Posted March 5, 2019 Posted March 5, 2019 If there isn't, I hope you start one, Bookshop! It would be grand to see worst decks people got in 2018.
Raggydoll Posted March 5, 2019 Author Posted March 5, 2019 Feel free to put them here! I’ll update the title so we can continue using this thread
bookshop Posted March 5, 2019 Posted March 5, 2019 lol GreatDane[/member] i like your enthusiasm! :D TRASH ALL THE DECKS! and thank you, Raggydoll! First, I'm listing the Ophidia Rosa as the worst deck I got in 2017 just because it's ridiculously difficult to read with, I find the LWB sort of obnoxious — like, okay, great, you made a rhyming couplet but told me nothing about the card — and the amount of love it gets from my querants is sort of annoying, haha. I think I'm going to go with the Instant Archetypes as my "worst" deck of 2018. I think it's a really cool deck in theory, but as a Majors-only deck, it was completely overpriced, and if I'd realized it was a Majors-only I never would have backed it on KS, oops. Especially since in person the colors and color design seem pretty bland, and the card stock is already warping badly. Good effort, just not quite what I hoped.
GreatDane Posted March 5, 2019 Posted March 5, 2019 :)) Bookshop! I love reading what really DIDN'T work for people, why what was their LEAST fav deck and why. Where else can we see so many reviews of what other readers DIDN'T like and why? X/ I am enjoying yours and others posts very much! I like reading about BEST, or FAV, decks as well! But that can be so enabling :shhh: Oh and I think last tarot decks I got...in 2017! So can't contribute after that!
