KiMo Posted January 3, 2023 Posted January 3, 2023 Ok, here's a slightly from leftfield and lighthearted question 😊 For those readers who have pets, do you find that they are sensitive to, or react to, when you do readings? I just did my first proper, serious, sit down reading for my partner (he greatly respects the tarot however has been hesitant about getting a proper reading from me until now). One of our cats, who is particularly attached to him, started to behave quite unusually when I was doing the reading. She wouldn't stop staring at me, was meowing at me constantly, and was trying to climb on to the reading cloth and the cards. She wasn't cross at all and was blinking at me (a cat 'love' signal) but we were both astounded at how she was behaving! We're curious to know if there are any other readers who have pets that react a certain way when they're reading 🐈⬛🐕
Guest Posted January 3, 2023 Posted January 3, 2023 Looks like your cat wanted a reading for herself 😉 I have a rabbit but he's not particularly interested in Tarot - or at least not as intensively as your cat! He usually sits right behind my back and watches me as i lay the cards. And when i shuffle the deck he moves his ears (kinda impatiently, but maybe that's just my imagination)
KiMo Posted January 3, 2023 Author Posted January 3, 2023 That's very cute @frenzy! Years ago I used to have two house rabbits but they used to do anything but sit quietly around me 😅
Guest Posted January 3, 2023 Posted January 3, 2023 hehe, mine can be a menace too - especially in the early morning. Maybe the whispers of shuffling cards calm him down? Who knows. I wonder if your cat will get used to your readings or if she will be always this curious and excited... You will have to do an update 😛

And I've just realised there's some terrible post Christmas grammar in my previous post, I can't edit it for some reason so apologies to anyone who reads it and cringes 🙈
Guest Posted January 3, 2023 Posted January 3, 2023 Nope, my dog is just normally curious about most stuff so he sniffs around here and there when I handle the cards. I don't think it's due to the deck though.
gregory Posted January 4, 2023 Posted January 4, 2023 In the days of the wonderful gregory, if I laid out several cards he would just SIT on them. Maybe I shouldn't read at all ?

Perhaps they get used to the tarot energy in the air? 6 hours ago, gregory said: In the days of the wonderful gregory, if I laid out several cards he would just SIT on them. Maybe it's a cat thing 😅 Maybe they want to do a reading themselves and are cross about their lack of opposable thumbs?

9livestarot Posted February 4, 2023 Posted February 4, 2023 I have found that my cats do have some sensitivity to when I do readings. I've noticed that they tend to become more attentive and interested in what's going on. One will even try to get involved by jumping on the table or meowing at me. It's almost as if they are picking up on the energy and are drawn to it. That's why I wanted to create a tarot deck that was specifically designed for cats. The 9 Lives Tarot deck is infused with catnip, so that my cats can participate in their own readings.
Grandma Posted February 5, 2023 Posted February 5, 2023 From Dec. 4, 2018, from an Aeclectic Tarot Thread Revival titled "Do your pets like being near you when you're reading Tarot?" - I no longer have pets, but Grandpa is more trouble than any cat ever was and he loves it when I read Tarot. At least he is fun to pet, doesn't need to be tricked into a car carrier when it's time to see the vet, and can pour his own kibble. And he doesn't use a litter box. And I like listening to him purr.

The 9 Lives Tarot deck is infused with catnip, so that my cats can participate in their own readings. Cats are cats. They do cat. I have been through (one moment........) - OK I got to 50, but I think I forgot some. I am very old. ANYWAY - every last one of them would become hugely attentive to anything I was doing (not to mention try to join in). Lie on your keyboard to stop you typing and make you pet them. Sit RIGHT ON the crossword when you are doing it - never on another part of the page, which would have been OK. On the other hand they do sense mood and will come and be comforting when you're down. Maybe they are just picking up on YOUR attitude to your cards. On another issue - you might like to think about the name of your deck - I already own one non-cat one called Nine Lives - text not number, but still.... https://ninelivesart.com.au/shop/nine-lives-tarot/ And you will lose at least some potential buyers if you infuse it with catnip - witness the huge number of people here who say please no perfumes, incense etc. Just a thought. People increasingly seem to have allergies.

Oh yes, I can agree with all of this Grandma! Although as we both work from home (for the most part), my other half just loves to come and distract me with a little chat periodically throughout the day. I guess I shouldn't complain, it's his version of having a little head scratch every now and again 😅

Very true Gregory 😅 My partner has, over the years, become very adept at doing his job one handed so that the other hand can keep the cat occupied while she tries to 'join in'!
