Hello Friends,

I am a beginner and wanted to know about tarot cards shuffle.

Do we rearrange the tarot deck in any proper sequence after reading is done.

In short for the next reading the tarot cards will be in random sequence ?

Hi,

I think you can do as you wish.

If you like to have your cards "in order", or in case you want to look up a card quickly, then sort them. But you will have to shuffle more before the next reading.

I have no hard and fast rules for that. Sometimes, I keep a deck by my side (like the Deck of the Week) and keep drawing from it; it doesn't make sense to re-order it every day or week. I enjoy shuffling and sometimes I just shuffle a deck until it feels "warm" in my hands. But then I also enjoy putting my decks into order and into their little boxes and my handmade bags I made for them. Once I feel I'm done with a deck for now, I'll enjoy the little ritual of putting each card back in its place. It also gives me the feeling that I clear away the accumulated energy. (I don't do any cleansing rituals since I don't think energy is dirty or that a deck is contaminated by working with it, but putting it back in its order removes the traces of work - just like clearing a worktable after you finished a project).

Much depends on your own feeling. Don't feel you have to do anything. There is no tarot police, and no right or wrong way of doing this. Just try it and do what feels right for you. Part of the fun you can have with tarot is finding your own rituals.

Oh, and my workhorse deck, my good old Thoth, is always shuffled wildly and thus always ready for me. Now that I think about it: there are decks I like to have organized so I can look up a card and find it quickly, more like study or comparison decks. And there is the deck I always want to have ready, that's the Thoth.

So just go with what works for you.

Yeah, that was really helpful, I know 😄

I've moved this thread to Tarot Talk & Technique, which is the best place for general tarot discussions 🙂

The answer here really @Aniketgaara is there is no rule about shuffling, it's what works best for you.

I think if you are just using a deck for readings (and don't need to order it for studying or working with it like the others have said here), most readers would probably just keep shuffling it. New reading, new shuffle

It's a you do you thing, really.

I just reorder my deck when I feel that it has become too saturated with the queries or personal energies of the person/s I've read to and I want to reset it. After that I would let it breathe for around three days or so.

Welcome to the forum.

Its entirely up to you!

Most of the time, I will just leave them shuffled.  Every so often I feel a burning desire to put the cards of a deck in order, so I do so.  But this isn't after every reading.  It seems to be when I'm in a cleaning sort of mood.  I think that sitting and ordering the cards is mentally good for me occasionally and makes me feel like I'm giving my subconscious space to put other things in order while I look at the pretty pictures...

If it feels right to you to order the cards each time, then go for it!

I only rearrange my card when unboxing it, but somehow you give me some idea 😄 in my experience, at some point when I need a specific reading, like major arcana only or courts only, then I separate all the cards to each corresponding group. Not exactly rearranging card though, but just do what you like. You can just shuffle or rearrange the cards based on your needs.

I always put the cards back in order after a reading - the Majors from the Fool to the World, and then the Wands, Cups, Swords and Pentacles. This has nothing to do with cleansing the energy from the cards or anything along those lines. I just like them that way and I enjoy the process. My cards are the instrument of my art and this is how I keep them.

There is no hard and fast rule. I don't put the deck in order after a reading, but, as I read reversals, I always go through the deck and put all the reversed cards upright. Sometimes I shuffle the deck once. If I want only Major Arcana, I have a couple of Major Arcana only decks that I use.
