You know how if you are writing a new post and you need to stop, when you return and click in the now-empty comment box, your previous draft appears? Well today mine did not. What did I do to no longer access this helpful feature and how can I undo it? Going forward I will go backward to when I used to save drafts in a Word document. I stopped because it was no longer necessary but now it is again.

Does it never save a draft anymore or just saves some? I find it only saves them about 80% of the time. If you want to be 100% sure of keeping your work, I would save the drafts yourself

My laptop crashed whilst writing a long reply last week and it did save the draft then and saved my bacon! 🙂

But I have noticed that sometimes it doesn't save it. If you change browsers / computers / devices from your first draft, it won't carry it over, it only saved it for that instance.

Also if you clean your browser history and delete the cookies, you lose any saved drafts.

I did have a saved draft in a post today, so it is working. Let us know your browser and then we can log any other reports of it happening.

I have found the feature mostly reliable but sometimes it doesn't save! Saving them yourself is the only sure way to make sure you don't lose your words

You know what @DanielJUK, you solved the mystery - I did switch laptops which also use different browsers. I usually bring the smaller one with me when I go to my hangout bakery café, and that's where I started the post yesterday, using Microsoft Edge. Today for an unimportant reason I had my larger laptop on which I use Google Chrome. Whew I feel dumb - just a little dumb, I have the excuse of being old - for not figuring it out, and relieved that there is not a big problem, and appreciative for your help.

Oh yay 😊

I think it saves the posts in stored cookies for this site. Cookies are per browser and per device, so if you switch to a different one, it can't find the draft.

Glad we solved it and nothing dumb about asking about it when it has stumped you, two heads are better than one
