Teemu Posted March 16, 2024 Posted March 16, 2024 (edited) Hi, finally the "Mirra visions" deck arrived yesterday. The idea intrigued me from the beginning, and I have to say it is well done. The cards are sturdy, a bit stiff, and I think one should handle the deck with car so as not to damage the two-way layer. The cloth is nice, too. Definitely, I am glad I bought it. An awesome deck! EDIT: there is a film on each card that can/should be removed. So no peeling, it is only the protective film! Edited March 16, 2024 by Teemu
Siri5 Posted March 17, 2024 Posted March 17, 2024 I finally caved and got the Tarot of the Holy Spectrum a couple of weeks ago. Was really hesitant as I was happy with my existing decks and got on with them and this one was a bit pricey for me. I'm also always a bit weary of new decks if I can't find any reviews of how they handle and shuffle - sometimes, when the cards are too thin or thick, or too large, they don't shuffle or handle well at all - and I couldn't find any reviews on this aspect, but the artwork looked so pretty and I have been drawn to this deck from the moment I discovered it. So far I'm in love with this deck. The artwork is RWS inspired, but also does have its own interpretation of the cards so it doesn't just replicate every card, some are similar, others quite different, and I have found that in a number of instances it has deepened my understanding of individual cards. Have been using it almost exclusively since I got it. I'm adding a screen shot of it since it's such a dingy day that it's not going to photograph well.
nightbird Posted March 17, 2024 Posted March 17, 2024 I just got a deck I backed on Kickstarter, the Aurora Tarot by Cocorrina. It's a Marseilles style deck and I was drawn to the art style. I am still learning this style of reading -- I've been reading RWS for decades and have just started exploring Thoth in the past year or so. Very excited to learn more!
alyce Posted March 19, 2024 Posted March 19, 2024 Been ages since I got my last deck but I fell in love with the Urban Incantations tarot and now it's waiting for me soon in the mail!
thornapple Posted March 22, 2024 Posted March 22, 2024 i received this as a gift from my brother's ex for a reading i gave her (that essentially boiled down to not taking him back since they discussed the possibility of getting back together after he did something very... bad). i'm surprised she went to this extent for me but it is a good kind of surprise; she's a sweetheart. it's interesting so far. the description on the back of the box says the cards feature popular philosophers, etc. this is most of the major arcana (didn't include judgement and the world due to posting limits): there are some other cards i found very interesting (or comical, as in the case of kafka's metamorphosis being chosen for IX of Swords) i haven't read all of the guidebook yet, but it feels very well-written and would probably be quite appreciated by people with philosophy degrees; even so for people with an understanding of pop culture philosophy, it seems to explain the concepts or the figure well so that you don't get overwhelmed. truthfully, i'm not sure if this is a deck i can read with, but it is a cool and thoughtful gift. my apologies if the image quality is bad, i'm not very good at taking photos 🥲 i just wanted to post about it since this is the first deck gifted to me instead of something i purchased.
Tom Posted March 22, 2024 Posted March 22, 2024 @thornapple it looks like Rider Waite Smith clone. It the guide that came with the cards is too cryptic there a lot of great books available for beginners that you would connect with. YouTube has a lot of good tarot shows. I would recommend Easy Tarot as she strips everything down to just what you need to know.
thornapple Posted March 23, 2024 Posted March 23, 2024 @Tom ooh, i'm alright, thanks! i don't have a problem with interpreting rws decks, i just think the guidebook for this clone is interesting because it explains the creator's reasoning for their choices on the major and minor arcana cards. it makes for an interesting read independent of the deck, too.
Tom Posted March 23, 2024 Posted March 23, 2024 (edited) @thornapple I am started to read the guides that come with decks that's aren't standard RWS for just as you stated--the artists sometimes have a different take on certain cards. I want to know that their symbolism represents as used to the standard definitions. Edited March 24, 2024 by Tom
Laura Borealis Posted April 12, 2024 Posted April 12, 2024 When you're watching the queue for your Gamecrafter order because it was estimated to be shipped today, but it's going backward in the queue instead of forward... 😿 (it's one of Reall's Pam decks, the borderless original art poker sized one)
gregory Posted April 14, 2024 Posted April 14, 2024 I have a couple coming from there. I await the customs bill with trepidation. Rodney made me do it.

The cardstock wasn't too bad to shuffle. I got the mirrored backing version and I do slightly regret it, but the card images are just *chefs kiss* I caved and ordered the Obsidian Occult Fortuna Tarot. I'm anxiously waiting for it to arrive.
Tom Posted April 14, 2024 Posted April 14, 2024 I'm waiting for The Silhouette Tarot. It's supposed to be delivered today.

Size comparison. Standard RWS on the left, Pam's Original Art Only Tarot Poker Size on the right: I picked The Sun as an example of how she worked on the art to remove text and numerals, and fit the cards to poker dimensions. (Personally I don't mind losing the fabled "oh ****" line, but I know some are attached to it, so r.i.p. to the squiggle.) I don't think the editing is perfect, perhaps there's an over-reliance on the clone tool but I will not quibble. I think it's done well enough to not be distracting. I LOVE the size, the poker dimensions, and the borderlessness. They look so good next to each other in a reading. The horizon lines flow from one card to another and it's just really nice. I also really like the colors, they're bright but not garish like some RWS decks, you know the ones I mean. And there aren't any orange people! I could kiss it on the mouth for that. Sorry my pics are not the sharpest.

Misterei Posted April 20, 2024 Posted April 20, 2024 (edited) I ordered my first mini Lenormand deck. I'm dumping Under the Roses to for 1-in-1-out ... I hope it will be easier to lay GT on my small reading table. OTOH ... God willing I can actually READ a mini-deck with my eyes 🤣 Edited April 20, 2024 by Misterei
Guest Posted April 28, 2024 Posted April 28, 2024 @thornapple I initially thought the Philosopher's Tarot a bit gimmicky, but now that you've shown a few cards I'm mighty curious about the creator's choices. Some made me scratch my head, but that may be my own fault since my knowledge of their ideologies are admittedly not that deep. I guess I'm just curious about the reasoning that went behind them.
Guest Posted April 28, 2024 Posted April 28, 2024 Received my very first Baba deck and now I get what the hype is all about. It's capital-G Gorgeous. And the craftsmanship - whew. I've lately been on an acquisitions binge of dark / vampire decks, and I guess I've landed their very ne plus ultra. I got the Limited Edition of the latest Bohemian Gothic Tarot, and the yuuuge cards are just perfect. I'd love to start working with it, but now I'm thinking that since it's OOP, maybe I should get a copy of the regular edition (which is still in print) as my working deck. In any case I have my sights trained on what may even be a more rarefied edition of the BoGo. Will see how it pans out in a few days, although it would be awesome if I can get it by Mayday Eve.
KiMo Posted April 28, 2024 Posted April 28, 2024 I have the Marea Tarot winging its way to me from Italy. A splurge, but well worth it I think (and hope!) as it's stunning. I missed out on the Kickstarter but the creator decided to offer the deck to buy on Etsy. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/masa-kulenovic/marea-tarot-a-new-chapter

The crown and scepter makes me think of the "Memento Homo" that a slave whispers to a victorious general during his triumphal procession in Ancient Rome. As Tertullian wrote in his Apology: Quote He [the emperor] is reminded that he is a man even when he is triumphing, in that most exalted chariot. For at his back he is given the warning: ‘Look behind you. Remember you are a man.’ [Respice post te! Hominem te memento!] And so he rejoices all the more that he is in such a blaze of glory that a reminder of his mortality is necessary.
Tom Posted May 2, 2024 Posted May 2, 2024 I just ordered The Vintage Tarot from Estes. I'm excited it pretty unique looking.
Guest Posted May 3, 2024 Posted May 3, 2024 Never thought I will ever secure something so precious, but I guess if something's truly meant for you, it will simply grace your path regardless of your expectations. I was able to purchase another Bohemian Gothic Tarot, this time a First Edition deck and book set. The box itself has seen better times, and the book has sustained some damage. But the real gem in this crown is the deck itself. This may be one of the last few pristine first edition BoGos that still remains sealed. It's utterly ravishing, and it may very well be the pinnacle of my burgeoning dark decks collection. Planning to make this my main deck for this year and even beyond.

KiMo Posted May 3, 2024 Posted May 3, 2024 The Marea Tarot arrived earlier in the week, it was well worth the splurge as it's gorgeous. Please excuse my wrinkly sheets, I have no workspace to speak of in our new flat 😅
Guest Posted May 4, 2024 Posted May 4, 2024 Was scrolling through the thread when I noted how familiar your cards look @KiMo. Then it came to me, how your Marea seems like a homage to the Thoth. I used to work with the latter extensively, but I have not done so for more than a year so it took a while to register. And yes, they are indeed vivid and beautiful.
