Got the Primordial Dream Tarot, I'm happy with it. It's an AI deck, which I prefer over any computer generated deck. It just looks more natural. Computer generated decks look soooo artificial to me.

I just received a notification that my Star Seeker Oracle is out for delivery. I am looking forward to seeing this alongside the Star Seeker Tarot. I’ve had this deck for over a year and just recently opened it. I was avoiding it once I heard it had the rose petal finish and was miserable to shuffle. Bennebell Wen created a video on power coating and saved the day. Now I love it.

@rylla  I love it too - but please explain what you mean - what's the difference - to you - between AI and computer generated ? I'd have said either could be used to describe this one.

Somehow the AI generated pictures (i.e. this deck) seem more natural (closer to paintings) for me than the other computer generated ones (i. e. Ciro's decks. I gave this example only because he is well known artist, all computer generated ones are all the same). I. e. https://www.amazon.com/Gateway-Divine-Tarot-giro-marghetti/dp/B0057IIN7C,   i.e. the hood, you can't paint this way (you don't even want too). The light, the transition between light and darker, it just soooo artificial. On the other hand the pictures on the Primordial look much more natural. Sorry, it is just a feeling that I (always) have, can't say it better.

Ciro's decks are CIRO generated. He paints on a computer - as with a brush on paper. NONE of it comes from anywhere but Ciro. None of it is in any way "artificially" generated. Maybe you don't like his art - I don't like all of it - but it is in no way artificially generated. He can tell you exactly why every stroke is painted the way it is. Someone who went the AI route will always (in my experience of asking) be unable to answer questions about some of it - because it wasn't their idea, and faced with "why is that there" all they can say is "well, that's what I got when I asked for xyz". Have you looked at the thread here where people are getting programmes to do the work for them ? Ciro's work - whatever else - has real thought in it.

I wrote about Ciro's creation process earlier this year in the quite argumentative AI thread.....

Thank you Daniel. Somewhere on line Ciro posted a video of his creation process - I'll try and find it, but if you know where it is....

ETA damn - found it but he has set it to private. I have asked him to open it up or make a new one for us ! It is so VERY not AI.

The term ‘computer generated art’ would be quite offensive and incorrect when it comes to digital artists. It implies that the computer does the work, and that’s not the case. In fact, it is AI art that is computer generated.

I am baffled by the fact that all digital art looks the same to you, but I guess that’s your experience. However, I think it was inappropriate to use Ciro as a sweeping example of digital art in general. He is not your average digital artist! The man has exceptional skills! It’s one thing to not like a style or an art medium, but I think we still should acknowledge skill and experience.

Ciro's Tarot Grand Luxe is one of my 5 favourite decks, and I use it all the time.

I was incredibly interested in the book that accompanies the Tarot Grand Luxe deck—which Ciro wrote himself.

In that book, he makes it clear that while he uses the digital medium, he manipulates all the images into pieces of artwork that are creatively and uniquely his. (Including his groundbreaking Fool, and his personality-specific Court Cards.)  I loved Ciro's explanation of his Tower card, which references Hurricane Katrina (which he experienced) and not the usual lightning/tower/fire imagery you get in most RWS-based decks.

Ciro Marchetti is a true artist, who is simply making use of a modern medium ...with superb results.  (I have his Gilded Reverie Lenormand deck which I also love....)  He's certainly not an AI deck-maker!

Possibly what's happening is some folks think 'digital' and 'AI' are the same thing.

'Digital' is a medium (like watercolour, pastel, oil) which a human artist can choose to create the images they want to depict.

"AI" —Artificial Intelligence— is a robot that replaces the human artist altogether.

Think of writing a book.  A human writer uses a wordprocessing programme as their main writing tool these days, replacing pens and typewriters.  A robot can also use a 'wordprocessor' to imitate a human writer.  However, the origin of both results couldn't be more different.

@rylla  tell me this is in ANY way comparable to telling some programme to make a pic of a dragon with a spiky beak. Ciro just made it when I asked for one; he was going to post it himself but had issues uploading. But honestly - there is NO COMPARISON.

Ciro has kindly given us a response and discussed all this in the AI thread in this post here....

I think we are now dangerously moving off-topic here, let's keep this thread about what the postman is bringing us and what decks have just arrived.

Let's take the AI vs Digital Art discussion posts over in the AI Art thread above 🙂

Yes indeed - I posted it there too as he was having issues uploading.

Thanks to Amazon needing additional purchases to ship without costs, we will soon be owning Grimalkin's Curious Cats and, finally, the Cat's Rule the World Tarot. From the latter, I have stickers and wall hangings but not the deck itself! I'm exited.

Yes we don't need more cards really, but it's cats!

I know the feeling.... Meanwhile, the Tarot of Light and Shadow  is arriving today. Allegedly.

I’ve just finished scanning the last of six decks of pictorial playing cards that arrived in the last few days. I’m planning to use them as an oracle by interpreting the images.

Ha.

It was "delivered today" to "in or near a shed." It was not. (Been all round the house with a torch, and even to the stone shed at the bottom of the yard. Did you know you aren't allowed to claim it wasn't delivered for 24 hours - is that so they get a day to deliver after lying about it ? And I am required to check that I put the right address (the one they have had on file for me for 15+ years); that I didn't have it sent to a store (if so why would they say they had delivered it) and that I am to check with anyone who may have taken it in in my behalf - I was in all day, and yes I'm deaf but we have a parcel bin that they usually use, and the door wasn't locked so they could have just put it inside. Gregory is Well Pissed Off.

I've noticed quite often now courier services say something is either delivered or lost in the process and then it appears the next day, I think it's to make sure they meet their targets 🤦‍♂️

We have different coloured wheelie bins around the side of the house for different days and once a parcel was put in the recycling one, when no one was in! They did write this on a card but so glad I found it, I have read about people accidentally recycling / trashing their parcels 🤣

It's the "in or near a shed" that bugs me. I can't FIND it, and if it was delivered and it rains....

My oldest son, Themba, will be 'muling' 3 decks to me that I shall receive within 6 days:  the 'Mary-El Tarot'; the 'Dark Goddess Tarot' by Ellen Lorenzi-Prince; and the 'Magical Nature Tarot'.  Super excited.  Sometimes I have to wait a year to receive a deck I want because I need a friend to carry it over in their luggage to Bali.  When are you coming to Bali?

DEAR GOD Daniel - bless you. :heart::heart::heart::heart: :heart:Thank GOD this week was actual garbage not recycling. It was indeed in the recycling bin. Amazon will be hearing from me in a minute.

ETA a very nice man with a powerful Caribbean accent was appalled and offered to put me on the line to the delivery staff so that I could give them an earful. I said no he could blast them thanks. He was particularly shocked that a driver would be stupid enough to put that they had left it near a shed when it was pissing down with rain - he agreed with me that a SMART drover would have lied about that bit !

Not that exciting compared to what others are getting, but getting Uni Waite in a tin.  I am VERY happy with the decks I have, I just wanted a couple pocket decks so this month, getting the Uni Waite in a tin (have the bigger version) and eventually will get the PCS Centennial in a tin (have the big version, got the Commemorative years ago).  So not sure it counts if it's the same decks I have, just smaller 🙂

Beautiful, but for me still looks artificial (I do not mean AI). Sorry, my bad, I think it's called digital artwork? (and not computer generated art)

Anyway, I've got the Solara Occulto Meliora. Yeah! I even like the parfum, (which I did not expected to do). With this deck my wish list is completed!!!
