Not everyones cup of tea, though. Actually, I love the experience @Chariot shared, for that was a reader in dialogue with her choice pack. Obviously, she did predict. Plus, if I read that correctly, she simply rollercoastered over any sort of objection to her statements. To reach there, you need guts. Skill too, obviously, but the kind of skill built on guts; in other words: "Should" stays at home, "Do" joins the party. (and: You can be sure that lady did amass a lot of so-called "failed" readings until she got to develop the drift Chariot experienced.) Concerning sessions (Hah! Enough said already 😎 - anyway): It seems to me that charge by time could be more of a thing for you - if things flow along well, you can get a lot covered in a relatively small timeframe. Talking fairs and one-on-one's here. Personally, I would vote for face-to-face, but that vote is likely to be biased, and, coming from me, strongly so.

Any suggestions/input/advice is welcome and appreciated... Any examples of questions are welcome..like, comparing "muddled question" to rephrasing it kind of example Thank you in advance! 🙂 edit: I always think of Rodney (I think it was Rodney) who said "garbage in garbage out" to some of the questions posed (I believe it was my post and he was helping out); it always makes me smile and I try to keep what he said in mind, but still struggling.. I am so glad you asked about this because hardly anyone has started threads about this topic so far 🙂 I honestly think the two biggest mistakes when readings go wrong are about this. Asking the wrong question for what you want to know and also not relating the reading back to the question you asked, they are huge pitfalls and we see it in readings posted here quite regularly! I feel that many readers do the exact opposite and rephrase it so much that the querent isn’t going to get what they came for. And that’s not okay, if you ask me. I think that it’s better to refuse a reading than to rework it in a way that doesn’t align with the querent’s expectations. It’s basically bad business because it sets you up for having dissatisfied clients. I do realize that this thread is about readings where you yourself is the client. In those cases, make sure your question/spread positions will allow you to find out what it is you want to know! No, this is a good point in this discussion I don't often do paid readings but quite often read for people in my life and they will often ask me for a reading on the topic they want to know. I think the other side of this is that often querent come to you with bad questions. I want the person I am reading for to get the best reading for what they want to know and so I will suggest the best thing to ask! Often these people have little tarot experience, so this is my responsibility in the reading. But it has to be a 2 way process, it's a communicating in a partnership to get the best possible reading. I always check they are happy that I covered exactly what they want to know with the question and spread. It's not okay if the sitter wants to ask about their career and you say, okay, let's look at your whole life! 🙂 On 4/8/2023 at 8:51 AM, gregory said: One thing - make very sure you actually want to know the answer, even if it may be unpleasant for you. Too many people come up with a question and then are pole-axed when they get an answer that really upsets them, and try to blame the reader. This is a really great point and something I have learned. Can you handle the truth? Tarot doesn't tell you what you want to hear but what you need to hear, it's not always happy happy happy! People ask relationship questions a lot when they have troubles or the partner is cheating and then get furious or ignore the situation when the reading shows there is no hope ahead. In my own life there are some things I don't wish to read on because I couldn't handle the outcome, actually that used to be the case but tarot has sneaked these issues into general readings I have had with other people. So I couldn't escape it! I remember once though when my last cat was very ill, I decided I didn't want to read on her. She was at the end of her life but I didn't feel I wanted to read on that issue. You don't have to read on everything 🙂 Yes / No questions - the tarot controversy of our times! I know some people do them and some people don't. I think the real problem with them is that people use them wrongly a lot! Asking them is a predictive reading and they have their time and place! But people ask them when really they want an advice reading, totally the wrong question, For example, will I get the job interview? yes / no. I noticed that one recently but the person wanted advice on acing the job interview! So really the question was, what can I do to give me the best chance in the interview? If you are using tarot for advice or clarity on what you are asking, it's not going to be a predictive reading, that is a different area. There are some great ideas in this thread about assumptions and multiple questions. I think also asking neutral to optimistic questions in tone, rather than "will I fail the job interview?" that doesn't help anyone. Keep it neutral and open-ended, let the tarot answer and speak. My personal question advice would be to think about what you are asking, spend a few minutes thinking exactly what you want to know, you want to get to the heart of the matter. The question will make the whole reading and a good answer or outcome! I like to start questions with: what, how, why, where and I try to avoid questions with will, when and should. If in doubt, I always go to Aecletic's old question list, a well-used bookmark for me 🙂 - https://www.tarotforum.net/threads/list-of-tarot-questions.65565/
