I'm going through something I like to call "tarot depression." Let me explain. As of late, I feel my intuition/psychic energy go into a slump and I don't feel motivated to read tarot. I know that I need the practice, but not only am I not motivated, I know that my reading will not be clear to me. Again, the clarity is in a slump. It's a vicious cycle. I also question if I'm doing my best work when I'm doing my readings.

Is it normal to be in a slump?

Is it normal that your intuition isn't clear in the beginning?

Do you ever need a break from tarot?

I don't think it's that uncommon to be in a slump sometimes. At least I sometimes find myself in them. Recently I'm trying to get out of my bullet journaling slump and I've been wondering if there is much use in my daily tarot readings as I don't live the most exciting life so I feel like there is limited options.. or something. I've been wondering about changing my spread or simply try out a weekly reading instead. Usually what I do is that I try to change things up a bit. Try something new, or limit myself if I see that I've been doing something in excess.

Yes, this is perfectly normal! You will experience ebb and flow when it comes to your psychic abilities (and to all your interests in general). Your mind needs some downtime to recuperate, otherwise you might get completely burnt out. The best thing is to be kind and patient with yourself. Give it some time, and while you wait - try to find (and engage) in other things that spark joy. Maybe there is just too much going on in your life right now? You  will probably feel much more like yourself when things settle a bit.

This sounds like psychic burn out where you have ran ur abilities out dry believe it or not ppl can die from it. Which is strongly recommended from other psychics to get plenty of rest. I'd suggest googling further info and cures to help.

Hope this helps

Blessings

If it's any comfort to you, I actually took a break from tarot of well over a year, probably two if I'm being honest with myself. I was feeling very disconnected from it. While I've been away from it though I've been learning more about numerology (by teaching myself to read playing cards) and developing my spiritual life generally without relying on tarot so heavily as a tool (by reading up on different philosophies/faith groups). Now that I'm back and warming up to it again, I am finding a new and deeper appreciation of the cards, which I hope will translate into my readings soon.

Don't be scared to take a break, you won't "lose it". You'll be rusty when you first come back (if you're anything like me), but it will switch on and flow again when you're ready. :)

The answer to all of your questions is yes!  It takes time to build up the stamina to work a 5 to 6 hour shift!  I do a lot of readings but never all in one day.  I just wrapped up the last of 7 readings this morning and I started Sunday on them.  I have to let my head clear when I've had busy weeks.  If you're reading for yourself a lot, then take it easy.  I found out my daughter was doing a Celtic Cross on herself a day for a few weeks.  I told her to stop it!  She was so depressed!  The frequency and size of the spread was doing her no good.  She followed my advice and went 2 weeks without reading herself.  Then when it was time for her to read tarot, she decided she preferred pulling an oracle card or two a day was better suited to her happiness.  When you do mental work, it can be as taxing as running a marathon, it might not tire your body out but yes, the mind can get very tired.

I sometimes have spells of time when I don't want to think about the Tarot, so I think it's just normal, Emilija. I advise you to go with the flow and don't force the issue. Just take it in stride, do other stuff like tending to your other passions and hobbies, and don't feel guilty or anything. Your love for the Tarot shall always stay. Eventually you'll yearn for it again with a burning fervor that might surprise you with its intensity. In the meantime, just chill. ;)

Yes. As others have said, take a break! Rest. And never feel worried about it. Cards have been around for centuries; they will be there for you when you need them and want them again. I have often gone for long periods of time doing Lenormand instead of tarot - and when I get back to my decks, neither they nor I miss a beat ;) You be good to you!

I'd say it's like writer's block, completely normal. :) Just take a break, take a walk--change up how you see things. If you already walk a lot, maybe take a different route, for example, or take up a different activity for a bit, like drawing or studying. The point is to let the tarot part of your mind rest a bit. Eventually the urge to read will either come back to hit you full-force or you'll gently coax it out.

The other thing to think about is, are you physically healthy at the moment? I recently found out that when I get sick I get almost completely cut off from any ability to read tarot. If that's the case for you as well then just focus on taking care of yourself and trust that everything will work out eventually. :)

And sometimes it is ‘just’ depression because that robs the joy from many aspects of our lives.  When you start feeling better in general the love of tarot may come back.

This is so true.  I had pretty much been on a Tarot sabbatical for 2-3 years.  I occasionally pulled out decks and looked through them but I really did not have much or anything to do with Tarot.  Then one day last July I decided I wanted to get back into it and started journaling and doing spreads and have been enjoying myself a lot.  A little rusty yes, but it does come back pretty quickly and I believe the break was good for me.  Don't sweat it, just don't go selling off your decks.  I have read where people do that and then when they get back into it they go through hoops trying to get hold of decks they let go of.

Oh that.  ;D

Haven't had one of those for a while.

Emilija - you just have to patiently move away from Tarot and have a rest until you feel in the mood again.

It is good to hear that it is normal to ebb and flow. I just get concerned when things aren't as clear as I'd like them to be. It is true that there is a lot going on. My father passed away leaving me with some trying responsibilities, and I'm starting a new job.

I found tarot again after about 7 years. I struggled with it religiously, but I've come to accept it as a part of my life. This has opened up a lot of doors for me and expanded my horizons. I guess there's just a lot going on right now with my family. I just didn't think that this would happen so soon after taking it up again.

You did my reading a few weeks ago. I liked it very much.

I actually have been thinking about you and your advice lately. I think that pulling an oracle card would be healing and soothing for me and I'm excited that I think I found the right deck to delve into: the Mother Mary Oracle. I think this would give me some calm and some solace.

I've started walking during the day to help with the depression. I try to take different routes and that helps to savor the moment. I'm not sick in a contagious sort of way. I have a mental illness and I'm under a lot of stress.

Walking is a wonderful thing to free your mind!  I'll be on meds the rest of my life, I have Graves Disease and with it comes anxiety, depression and OCD.  I take my meds everyday.  Emilija, if you're not on meds, perhaps a visit to the doctor might help?  I look back at my life before meds and I can see where I went off the rails so much.  I'm happy to say my doctor said last visit that my depression was in remission, finally!  But I still need to take my meds. To stay stable, no problem. ;)

Yes, I take Geodon for mania/psychosis, Effexor helps with depression, anxiety, pain, Prozac, and Propranolol. I also take vitamins. Ever since my father died, and I had difficulty at my old job, I was under a lot of stress/grief. I'm starting to see that this was affecting me.
