Difficulty with applying knowledge when answering a question.

Hello! Ive been watching tarot videos for a really long time and when I see them on tik tok they always feel so accurate. So I decided to try and learn tarot card meanings. I watched different videos on youtube about all 78 cards and it started clicking. So now, when I see a card I can somewhat understand the general meaning. But when I decided to ask a specific question I had no idea whats the meaning of the 10 of pentacles regarding love. Any tips about what to do next?

I think the part of this that is missing is experience. We can learn all the cards and the theory, but how do you actually apply it? Sadly you can only learn the practical part of reading by using the cards over and over 🙂

The people on TikTok are showing off! 🤣 . But how can you practice what you know? I think there are different methods here. Some people pick their own keywords for a card, maybe 3 and then you can apply it in different situations. Some people read the card image and other people make notes in a journal. You can combine all these methods as well but ultimately, you have to work out the "essence" of each card for yourself and that takes time.

2 ways that really helped me to learn the cards practically and applying them in real time. One was taking a daily card, pick a card (at the start of the day if you want a predictive reading, end of the day of you want a review of the day). Try to apply it for the day. You will soon realise that the cards are really nuanced, like their energy can show in strange and wonderful ways! Other way of using them like this is to join in our monthly circles where you are reading with other members. You need 5 posts to see those areas though and they launch in the first week of each month. Reading with others really helps you to learn. There is details about them in my signature below when you get to 5 posts 🙂 .

There isn't a quick magic read like the TikTokers fix I am afraid, you have to use them and learn each time 🙂 . It gets easier with time!

Thanks for replying I guess I will continue to practice more and try to memorize more details. I may start a journal too. Im looking forward to joining a circle.

You are welcome to start a digital journal here, you just start a thread in this section here. You can write anything down you like about each card there 🙂 It's your own space on the forum!

It helps a lot, in my opinion, if you practice with more than one card at a time.  Just trying to apply a single card's meaning is more difficult than it sounds. But if you have two or three cards interacting, you can see how they influence each other, and suddenly the whole thing clicks.

I nearly always draw two cards instead of one for each position in a spread, before I start to interpret the spread.  Of course if your spread uses many cards, that will limit the usefulness of this technique because there are only 78 cards to work with.  But rather than pulling only one card for a daily reading—try pulling two.  One will 'modify' the other.  Or if you have a past, present and future position, pull two cards for each position and see if this gives you a better way to focus the reading.

Just an example: If you draw The Lovers on its own, in the 'future' position, you might wonder what that card is going to apply to.  However, If you draw The Lovers and the Two of Cups, this probably means you will be making a choice or commitment to somebody you really click with.   If you draw The Lovers and the Five of Swords, it's likely to mean there will be serious conflict and bad feeling regarding a choice you will make, or a person you're committed to.  If it's The Lovers and the Devil, it could mean that you will feel dominated and trapped by the choice you make, or maybe even become addicted to an abusive mate. The Lovers and The King of Coins might mean you'll be choosing to make a commitment to somebody who embodies the characteristics of that particular King.

Sticking to The Lovers, if you pull that on its own for your daily card, you might get a glow because it means, you know ...Lovers!  What can go wrong?  But if you pull the Three of Swords as well, this could mean you have an important choice to make—that might or might not be about romantic love—and that it would be best if you used logic rather than feelings to make it. ( In other words, head kills heart in this instance.)  Or it could mean the person you've chosen as a mate is about to break your heart. 😞

The second card modifies the first in all these instances, and gives you better focus on the issue at hand.   Plus you get practice at seeing a reading as a whole, not just card by card.  That's a skill you'll need to master, to become a really good reader.

Yes I always love to draw 5 cards and then I look at all of them and to some point I can get the feeling of the cards but I still need more details to feel confident in what I say, so I usually check the meaning online.

Love readings can be hard, especially our own because of the emotions involved 😊

Don't forget that you can post your own readings in our Personal Tarot Readings area and get second opinions. Please read the rules on that area at the top and you have to interpret it yourself first, try and work it out first and then we can give you more ideas
