Marieke Posted May 2, 2023 Posted May 2, 2023 As a newbie to tarot, I am wondering what the differnce to you is between the empress and the 10 of coins? For me, they are both about abundance. What your take on that? Thank you in advance.
DanielJUK Posted May 2, 2023 Posted May 2, 2023 So let's think about the difference between them both. First of all the biggest one, The Empress is a major card and the 10 of Coins (pentacles) is a minor. The majors are archetypes that can be in our lives and are an important energy, it's also bigger than us and like from the universe or destiny. So Majors are more important (weighted) in a reading. The Minors are on our level, they are more mundane. I find the majors are often things we cannot control but the minors are decisions we can make and actions we face personally. The Empress is an Earth Mother, a feminine energy. The type of abundance about this card as a kind of "horn of cornucopia" theme, nurturing, beautiful, nourishing. It's like walking in nature in a lush forest, greenery and flowers everywhere, indulging all your senses in the situation. It's going to a spa for self-care and a massage and facial. It's nurturing yourself and then giving to others. The abundance here is a blessing and has all these things happening to you. It's that modern idea of "being" in the situation, not missing out what is going on. Putting down your phone and running barefoot on grass into a forest. This card is associated with Venus and so I always think of all Venusian things with it. It's finding abundance in yourself, in your own life or around you or treating youself to abundance. The 10 of Coins has different themes to The Empress, it is more about wealth, inheritance and family. That's not all it's about but it's mundane in our level. The 10 is a completion or end of cycle of the Coins / Pentacles suit. This is like someone retiring, they have worked all their lives and has a pension or assets and wealth. Someone at the end of their career has a lot more security and stability (usually) than someone at 25 years old. So the abundance here can be wealth (from what you have earned or from inheritances), security, stability and family. It's abundance of your foundation, you don't have to worry too much about living and your future now. Physical security. Both cards are linked though as both being cards of the element of Earth. Whilst different types of abundance, I should say they are not both just about abundance, it’s just one of their attributes 🙂
Marieke Posted May 5, 2023 Author Posted May 5, 2023 Wow, thank you for your replay! This helps me a lot, it is very inspiring. Thank you 😊❤️
Scandinavianhermit Posted July 15, 2024 Posted July 15, 2024 Following a method mainly based upon Etteilla, I view The Empress as the Ruler of Day and Night. Ten of Coins is your homestead/household; Ten of Cups your village, town, borough or city; Ten of Batons the place where you regularly take a vacation, and Ten of Swords any damage your flat, house, property or domestic life may take (unless your agriculture has suffered from drought, in which case the Ten of Swords is good news, signifying eventual rain).
