24seasons Posted July 1, 2023 Posted July 1, 2023 Maybe a weird question, but I was wondering if anyone had ever read for fictional characters as an exercise and what the experience was like? Obviously they can't give you feedback but I thought it might be an interesting way to practise reading for others without the pressure of it being real. I haven't read for another person yet because I'm super nervous (I do plan on joining august's reading circle though! I'm too busy for this month's) and I don't know if it would be a good idea or a terrible idea to try this first haha. I've love to hear your thoughts! (Also this is only tangentially tarot related so if it would be a better fit for the general cartomancy section it can be moved)
Nemia Posted July 1, 2023 Posted July 1, 2023 I do it quite often. It's a very interesting way to get deeper into a character but also into the tarot. From time to time, I recommend it to tarot newbies as creative way to get into tarot reading for others. If you only read for yourself, you may project your own wishes and fears onto the cards, but if you read for Anna Karenina or Scarlett O'Hara, you can get real insights from the cards.
DanielJUK Posted July 1, 2023 Posted July 1, 2023 Yes many people have learnt using this method 🙂 It's also really fun to read on a situation with the characters in a book / film or tv series as you are watching / reading and see if you can work out the outcome or ending in the reading!

gregory Posted July 20, 2023 Posted July 20, 2023 One of the Tarot Greats - Ricklef - wrote a whole book about doing this. And if you want feedback in the way that you can't get reading on Cinderella - try doing it on a TV soap operas and see what happens next week. Great fun. https://www.amazon.ca/Tarot-Tells-Tale-Readings-Familiar/dp/0738702722
crystalrose Posted July 26, 2023 Posted July 26, 2023 Yes, I do it as I watch tv shows. Sometimes I will pull a card and ask what’s coming next and take a guess. That way I get immediate feedback on whether I’m right or not. It’s quite fun and you get to see how literal the cards can be sometimes.
Ryokan Posted June 27, 2024 Posted June 27, 2024 This is a fun exercise. Reading for imaginary characters and TV shows. Do you always use the tarot or is it possible to forego the cards and use our intuitive abilities?
