violett-h Posted July 1, 2023 Posted July 1, 2023 For those of you who work with 2 or more systems (RWS, Thoth, Marseille)... How separate do you keep this systems when working with them? Do you tend to read the same way for all? Does one system bleed over into another? Does
violett-h Posted July 1, 2023 Author Posted July 1, 2023 Does 1 system inform how you read the other systems? How long did you learn 1 system before learning others? Interested to know everyone's thoughts! (Sorry- accidentally hit post before I was done typing.)
fire cat pickles Posted July 1, 2023 Posted July 1, 2023 Hi @violett-h! Welcome 🙂 What a great question! I use RWS and TdM systems but came to TdM late. I've tried Thoth but never really clicked with it. I refer to the Book of Thoth sometimes as a resource often though. I use all three systems together, so I'll say "yes" that all three systems bleed into one another for me. For the other part of your post, I do not think there is, or should be, a time limit to explore systems before moving on to the next ones. But of course this is up to you as a learner. You may be more comfortable absorbing material in a compartmental fashion and then moving onto the next style. Up to you. The way I read cards, I may be drawn the the pictures or symbols that trigger my intuition, or it may be the astrological aspects (decans) or signs represented in them in the cards, Sometimes I may be drawn to either Chaldean or Kabbalistic numerology. Other times the cards just tell a story. Sometimes the cards lay out simply like pictographs---like a Lenormand spread. I am all over the place when I read... I read RWS for a very long time before stumbling on TdM and even longer before even trying the Thoth. It was even longer before trying Lenormand. Again, welcome. And thank you for asking this question!
Natural Mystic Guide Posted July 2, 2023 Posted July 2, 2023 There are some readers, like myself, who are primarily intuitive or psychic readers. Give me any deck, any system under the sun, a pile of knuckle bones, or tea leaves at the bottom of a cup... I can read it. That being said, I do study. Lately, I have been on an intense jag of study. I am hungry now to submerge myself in the Thoth system. I have yet to study the TdM yet -- none of the artwork has been compelling enough to draw me in. Aesthetics is my number one criterium in evaluating a deck. Yes all of the systems inter-relate. So it is more a matter of your own personal learning style. In my own case, after a brief flirtation with the RWS deck at age 18, I then started at age 48 to work seriously with RWS and clones. It is not until now, 22 years later that I want to fully immerse myself in the Thoth. Because I primarily read for others, and an important part of such a reading is a client's own response to the card images, I think that illustrated pips (RWS and clones) are more accessible. Have fun finding what works for you!
