XrabbitX Posted July 17, 2023 Posted July 17, 2023 Hey I just wanted to introduce myself. I am relatively new to tarot, and have found it easy to use, but difficult to usefully apply to my life. I would say my main problem is that it feels like the readings were working, but it was mostly bad news, so tarot just ends up feeling like I'm getting bad news twice, if that makes any sense. So I'm looking forward to gaining some insights from more experienced people. I have a background in Gnosticism, and am generally interested in Western esoteric studies.
legendaryelement Posted July 17, 2023 Posted July 17, 2023 Welcome to the forum, @XrabbitX ! I have a few decks (& other oracles) that seem to prefer being my “barometer” so I allow them to show me my mindset or preference. Then I pull or cast from another method to advise me on what action to take.

Hello @XrabbitX and welcome to this community. In my Tarot Universe, there are no 'bad' cards. There are no 'scary' cards. It's all a matter of perspective. Many people in the world see life as often falling into bad case scenarios. If people like this create decks and write LWB's (the guidebooks that accompany a deck) their views of pessimism and doom will be reflected in their creations. So if you use decks that have scary or negative imagery, or if you read LWB's that have scary or negative meanings assigned to whole suits of cards or to all reversals, chances are pretty good that you will come away with bad news. So look for positive decks. I would suggest the Playful Heart Tarot and the Illuminated Tarot by Carol Herzer for starters... Over my many years of working with the cards, I have developed my own way of seeing them. You can take the essence of a card and then put the most positive spin on it. I do use reversals, often. Then I see the card's appearance as a 'heads up'. Here's an issue to pay attention to. Here's a challenge or a lesson that you can learn from. Fortunately ways to avert a negative outcome or a painful lesson can usually be found by studying surrounding cards in a spread. If you can look at yourself objectively and see if you have a tendency towards seeing the glass half empty rather than the glass half full; or your mind repeatedly dwelling on worst case scenarios... then the good news is that some of the challenge lies within. And, you can change that! Our minds control our reality. Change your mind and you change your reality. If that is the case, let me know, and I would be happy to suggest a few free resources that could be very helpful. Best wishes on receiving lots of 'good news' and may Tarot exploration be a part of that.
