The Wise and Subtle Arte of Reading Cards

The HedgeWytchery system is something I come to again and again. Some don't like its fixed meanings and more strict way of reading cards. I use some of the meanings, not all. But I find myself interlacing HW meanings in my TdM readings often, along with other meanings.

I couldn't find a thread that links Dawn's website, so I'm providing it here.

I also thought that there may be some interest in having a study group start-up.

I've been trying to pick up this system again, and I'd love to have a little back-and-forth.

For a "what's going on today" reading, I drew 2♥️ 10♦️ 7S (I'm not allowed a 3rd emoji.)
RRB - so far, "A problem is on the horizon."

Continuing on the examination of the 2nd rule, I'm less sure how to parse the positions into a story. Comparing with the other examples, I'm inclined to think, "family moving into a financial problem?"

Also, I really want to associate the example 3 card layout with the "Querent / Quesited / Judgement" model of geomancy - do you think that's a reasonable overlap?

I *believe you must have a certain amount if posts before you can post help for a reading (10 maybe?)

Also, this is in the wrong forum, as it is asking help for a reading.

This is a thread about general reading techniques,  not specific help concerning any particular reading...

@Nisterius if you want to post a reading for interpretation, @fire cat pickles is right, this is a discussion thread. We only allow readings in certain areas and you need 5 posts before accessing them.

You need to post playing card readings here or you can offer an exchange with them here

For getting reading help, you need to interpret the reading fully first and then members will give you their ideas 🙂

I apologize; I would happily remove the example if I could see how to edit.

How would I better frame this question for the technique? The examples she give fully flesh out spades in all positions, but leave you to extrapolate the meanings of the other suits: But the spade always seems to qualify another suit regardless of position: "A problem in love, a problem in finances."

But, if we were to make a similar set of examples for hearts, for example, and have "love" qualify the adjacent suits: "Love of family", "Love of resources", "Love of problems"(?!) - clearly that doesn't seem to work so well. So I am curious how others develop this.

I see my links are no longer working 😞

Without giving a full interpretation (and I hope you post elsewhere with your reading and interpretation so we can give more input!) Red - Red - Black indicates that the situation gets worse or has a "not so good" outcome.

It is my understanding that the order of the cards in most certainly not "regardless of position" with this system:

R, B, B: A fair beginning steadily worsens and turns foul.
B, B, R: A light at the end of the tunnel.
R, R, B: A problem is on the horizon.
B, R, R: A problem will be solved, things will steadily improve.
R, B, R: A small delay or problem will be overcome.
B, R, B: A temporary truce or rest. Do not let down your guard; appearances can be
deceiving.
R, R, R: All is fair and fine.
B, B, B: Beset by problems and hardship.

I believe the web.archive has been hacked and is down right now. The links will return sometime in future

I love this method and it is 80% close to what I’ve been using since I first learned playing cards in my teens. My system has some differences of course and I evolved certain aspects in my practice.

I do not find it rigid at all, on the contrary I adore and appreciate the logical aspect of how the meanings are derived from suit+number. It provides extremely sophisticated interpretations with valuable details. Anyone can derive more meanings from that core.

As much as I appreciated all authors, styles, different systems over the two and a half decades of my involvement with card reading, this “system” remained my ultimate choice.

Greetings everyone! This thread is fairly old, but I just wanted to check if there's a study group on the forum for this system or not? Did one get started, @fire cat pickles? It's been some time since I've picked up the Hedgewytch method and I love the idea of having folks to learn and practice with!

Hi, I don't think there's a study group but I would take part in joint activities. I read playing cards based on the methods described by Robin Artisson and Roger J. Horne in their books, they are largely aligned.

I haven't heard of Robin Artisson, so I'd have to look that up, but I've read Roger J Horne's book and like what it offers. I'd love to take part in joint activities, too! Let's also see if others reply and maybe if we could get a study group started? I'm absolutely open to the idea and think it's long been needed!
